i'm doing a project and would like to now if there are any generals in the civil war that have a last name that starts with Z or has a last name that starts with Z.

You need to check Ezra Warner's books Generals in Blue and Generals in Grey. The last in the alphabet on both sides were Felix Zollicoffer for the South and Samuel Zook for the North. But there may have been other General Z's in the Civil War.
