My daughter has  a 1 year old min pin.  He became sick overnight and she took him to th vet.  He was dehydrated so they put an iv in and then ran a test.  The report was he had pancreatis due to table food.  The dog eats anything in the yard or house. He ate a fly Sunday.

He eats Science Diet everyday but in the evening along with dog food he gets bites of meat from the table and has since he was 3 months old.  Could this have caused the pancreatis?  He also eats 2-3 bone chews made of pigs ear.  Help

I have a 12 wk. old min pin who fell ill last week. He went down hill in just a few hours. I took him to the vet on the verge of death first thing in the morning. He was diagnosed with campylobacter. He was doing great within two days with his antibiotics and antidiahretic. Its been over 8 days and he was looking better than ever until today. It started out just the same and I'm scared I might loose him. I cant afford
antoher $400 dollars to treat him, what should I do?

Pigs ears contain a lot of fat and bacteria. That is making your dog sick. He should have no table food and low fat dog food, low fat treats. I think your dog eats too much.

I had a similar problem with my min pin.  My vet warned me that min pins cannot break down fatty deposits as humans can and thus are suceptible to pancreitis when indulged in a diet of human table-scraps.

min pin's though are hardy they can fall into the same habits as large breed dogs. As a breeder and foster for rescued Min pins I very seldom give table scraps. My vets over the years have noted that it is ok to give them the problem is that people do not give them in a balanced form.
ie: meat with vegetables etc. Occasionally I do that and they are fine. Majority of mine actually like fruit and vegetables more than meat. I mainly now if they get table scraps it is chicken.

i have a min pin and my vet said table scraps are fine in moderation. also adjust the amount of dog food you give him according to how much other stuff he eats.

When I got my min pin puppy, they told me never to feed it pigs ears or rawhide because the pieces could get stuck in their stomach and expand. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but hopefully it helps! Good luck!

This is my second set of Min Pins with this set being 7 years old. My first set the female balck and tan had seizures. My second set female (no relation to either dogs) has seizures. I started keepin logs and have come to find out that dry dog food, Science Diet or any brand tends to set off the seizures along with hign fatty food. I now cook ground turkey and rice and this has cut the siezures almost out. The only time I have a problem is if someone slips her a high fat treat. Just watch the fat intake and if you use dry dog food make sure to check the expiration date and purchase in small amounts.

we lost our min pin to pancreatitus because she got into the trash. Min pins are very sensitive to high fat foods that can cause acute pancreatitus. Unfortunately it is a very serious disease and moves rapidly in these small dogs. Low fat foods only!
