Is there a such thing as a miniture Basset Hound?  I want a smaller, lap dog version.

If you want a smaller version, I would recommend a Dachshund. I had a miniature Dachshund and took him to my sisters house, who has a Basset Hound, and they acted and looked too much a like. The only difference was the size and color. Little dogs tend to be much yappier than larger dogs though, and a Dachshund usually will bark more than a Basset Hound.

I agree with Hotharley
If you want a basset looking dog you could get a dachshund, or if you just wanted a smaller hound you could just get a min. beagle. They can be as small as 10. inches at the shoulder.

There is no such thing as a small basset hound. If you feed the dog right then it won't get so fat. People just have to learn  how to feed their dogs right. But yes i agree you should get a dachshund. but i don't think that can replace a Basset Hound. they are down to earth dogs there only problem is they shed and its not there fault.

I have found that dachshunds usually are pretty quiet, IF you train them not to bark at a very early age.  My puppy hardly barked at all and a few of his litter mates were returned, because they barked excessively.

I also agree.
I have 2 bassett hounds and 1 minature dachshund.  My dachshund barks at everything and my bassetts just bark at each other when they are playing.  My dachshund is almost 2 years old and only weighs 5 pounds.  She is very small but stands up to my bassett hounds like she is 10 feet tall.

there is no such thing as a miniature basset.  i have 2 bassets which are completely different in size.  mollie is very small weighing at 38 pounds and sophie is a larger breed weighing at about 45 pounds.  it all depends on the inheritance of the parents.  no such thing as a miniature basset but, if you choose wisely you may be able to find one that is more petite.

There is such a thing as a miniature basset hound.  I have only found one person with this breed.  I found them at the Bonnie and Clide Trade days in Louisiana.

When we bought our basset hound the seller said it was a mini but we didnt kno much about the breed except for they were great family dogs...We think now that the lady cheated us because our dog has leg problems but it does look like a basset but with shorter ears kinda like a beagle and it is smaller but it looks mixed with something not full blooded....Sorry I tried to make sense but i dunno. ;)

To create a mini bassethound would cause all sorts of medical problems with the breed...I belive mostly around the tear-ducts. They are already bred so short they drag. Dachshunds do not look at all like the nobel Basset hound! Perhaps you should stick to something simpler... like a mutt. There are plenty of un-wanted pets at the local animal shelter that are desperate for love and attention. Please, consider charity.
