I need more details on installing packages from an archive.  

For example I have downloaded the package supertab. I get two files supertab.ins and supertab.dtx  applying latex to these files yields among others supertab.dvi ans supertab.sty. I can read supertab.dvi but don't know where to put supertab.sty
