Many years ago I read a story in which the central character was a carrier of "every" disease in the universe. He didn't get specifically symptomatic but as I recall would have very bad cases of fever and sweating .. whatever. If you could help me identify this I will be very grateful. Also more recently (15 years) I read a story set in Central America where a guerrilla war was going on interminably. It featured a lot of futuristic (at the time) technology (helicopter pilots virtually addicted to the sensory enhancing headgear they wore, bio enhancing meds that made troops into supermen for short periods, etc.) There was a passage about a nominally off limits venue where individuals high on such meds would be "pitted" with a jaguar. Any clue as to the story? I lent the collection of short stories with this story in it to an acquaintance who kept it and then left town.
