my pug, Nala, is allergic to grass according to our vet...fun, huh?  It isn't usually a problem because the allergens stay on top of her fur, but if she gets wet then the water allows the allergens to get in direct contact with her skin. She will then break out with big swollen bumps wherever she is wet.  Last summer the vet gave us pills for her that I believe were antihistimines and steroids.  She's starting to have allergic reactions again, but I don't feel comfortable giving her too many steroids. I'm trying to find out if anyone knows of other treatments I might try?

You know, my pitbull has the same allergy. Although NOTHING can make it go away completely, or make the itching STOP, you can try giving her benadryl every once in while. Also, cortisone cream that you find in the grocery/or drug stores can reduce itching, but it's a horrible allergy for a dog to have. I know that there's nothing I can do about her missing hair and her huge red bumps, and feel completely helpless-I can't seem to do anything to get rid of the bumps. If you or anyone else has heard anything that I haven't please contact me by e-mail me at foxyqueenofsheba@aol.com  I'm desperate for a solution to make it better for my baby.

Hi. I have a 3 yr. old pug. I recently had her allergy tested and it came back she was allergic to grass, trees, yeast, chicken, pork, beef and on and on.  We are currently on allergy desensitizing shots. She gets 2 shots every 4 days.  She is also on a new drug called atopica 50mg 1x a day plus antihistamines.  The bad news is we have been doing this for 5-6 months now and we still have severe itching. She scratches and rubs up against things until she bleeds. I wished I could help but I can't seem to get much relief myself.  Lucy is a severe case i'vebeen told.  I'm not sure what the future holds for us.....good luck to you.

hello, i have a two year old pug and lately its been as if she's been having allergic reactions.. the first time she got lumps all over her body, and we got medicine for it, and this weekend (princess lives with my grandma) and when i came over for the weekend she had rashes all over her body and in her ear, it looked like she scratched it until it bled, i took her to the vet, but now she is getting these bloody bumps on her head?  also, on her belly it looks as if she has popped blood vessels all over her belly, if anyone can help me and know what this is from please reply to this or email me at dmx119768@aol.com thank you so much!

I hope that you try this...I did and it worked miracles on my Lab/Retriever mix.  He (Buddy) likes to lie in the grass or dirt that he digs up and it seems since he started doing this that he scratches all of the time and causes red spots and sores on his stomach and legs.  I think (he thinks he's trying to get cool) the soil and weeds are causing him to itch. A "Country Vet" told me to shampoo Buddy with "Ivory Bar Soap" twice or use liquid Dawn Dish Soap.....I used the Dawn and that was a mistake!  He itched even more!  So I tried the Ivory Bar Soap and I is a "Miracle Cure"!!!  As Buddy was scratching in the bathtub as I was washing him with the Ivory, he immediately stopped scratching and started wagging his tail as to say "thank you"----this is NO LIE!  I almost cried!  Also the Doctor said it immediately kills fleas!  Just take a look at the water in your bathtub when you wash your dog with it---the dead fleas float on top-----DEAD! First, your going to bath him with Ivory Bar Soap twice--making sure you make a lot of lather (it probably won't lather until the 2nd wash). Try not to get into pets eyes as Ivory will sting the eyes....use a Baby Shampoo for the face, eyes and ears---it's more soothing. Then rinse very very thoroughly for about 4 minutes or so.  (The only thing with this is your pets coat will be dull and not shiny, but that was not important to me at the time....I was just trying to relieve my poor little dog from his itching.  I bathed him with the Ivory every week for a month until his skin healed.  What a difference it made.  Then after a month I shampooed him also with Johnson's Baby shampoo for the second shampoo instead of Ivory twice.  This really makes your dogs coat so soft and shiny like you want believe!  And no itching!  Now----the best secret!  Let your dog drain in the tub for a few minutes while you mix the "Final Cure-All" mixture up....mix 2 Tablespoons Baking Soda with one gallon of warm water (I use a plastic 1 gallon water or milk container) shake or stir.  Very, Very slowly you are going to pour this over your dog making sure that it saturates all of the skin surface everywhere.  If you stop up the bathtub as you do this, then you can re-apply mixture onto your pet for a few minutes.  IMPORTANT---DO NOT RINSE! This will sooth the skin and heal the sores if any. Now, let your pet drain for a few minutes keeping him from shaking to get the full soothing benefits.  Now, pat dry (or blow dry) I put 2 big towels in the dryer for 15 minutes and wrap doggie in them for 5 or more minutes to soak up all the moisture.  You are not going to believe the relief your pet gets from this treatment---mine romps around the yard like a little puppy now and doesn't have to stop to scratch---he's a happy camper now!  I hope that you try this and let me know how it worked--even if he still scratches, it has to give them some relief! right?  from one animal lover to another...sincerely, Julie

do you feed him a premium food...my vet recommended feeding my dog "Ultra" brand (you can buy at Petsmart or Petco) I tried different flavors, but the (green bag) Natural lamb and rice...not the most expensive green bag, but the lesser expensive bag seems to keep his itching down.  And also if I use "Awards" brand wet canned food----this is Petsmart'sbrand name canned food.  I was giving my dog's pedigree and alpo and they started itching like crazy in a couple of days.  I switched to "Awards" or (I'm not sure on the new Petsmart name brand, they changed it)and in a week the itching stopped.  Just a suggestion..let me know if it worked, J
