I know all there is to know about hardcore dancing but...  Where and when did it come from???
What's the history of dancing at hardcore shows?
Did it just show up or is there a history behind where the dancing came from?

hardcore dancing came along the same way hardcore music came along.. it was a devolopement of punk pits.. but people found it riculously stupid to run in circles so people had thought of a way to make a pit fun dangerous and fearful at the same time and along came slam dancing ( hardcore dancing )

Well thats all correct, except that "slam dancing" is not hardcore dancing. "Slam dancing" is what they used to call moshing.

Well, Everyone here answered profoundly incorrectly.  Hardcore dancing DID start at punk shows.  But, the music was not Punk, per-say, but Hardcore.  BlackFlag, first hardcore band.  People would not just run in a circle, but they would "Slam Dance."  That is when you run in a circle doing your dance moves.  Much like a modern day circle pit.  They did not used to call Moshing Clam Dancing, they called Moshing, well, Moshing.  The dancing we have today came from Breakers going to Hardcore shows, jumping in the middle of the circle and shaking their tail feathers.
Unfortunately, now, Hardcore has lost all it stands for.  No longer about Brotherhood (and sisterhood). More so about playing Heavy Metal music and saying that it is not Heavy Metal.  Makes me sad.  (Teardrop)

hardcore dancing is a way of not looking like an idiot when going to shows and wanting to mosh. instead of looking like an dumbass running around, the idea came that the "scene" should do something that is organized, and less stupid then "circle, push, etc.etc pits" and is way more fun and less gay. basically some guys said "wow we look like idiots when were doing this" so then came HXCDANCING. just like another type of dancing you have "groove moves"lol, as i put it,"floorpunch/stomp""windmill""spinmill""chainsaw""spinkick""roundhousekick""twostepping"etc etc, but id have to say that the scene" made it up in the late 90's?...

who the hell is Mike FSU and the wolfpack, no one can take credit for creating hardcore dancing, just because your friends claim they created it.  Hardcore dancing is people dancing to music, they may have made moves, but not hardcore dancing, maybe if he was around for the first hardcore show ever.  HARDCORE DANCING WAS NOT CREATED IT CREATES YOU!

hardcore dancing did indeed spawn from slam dancing, yet there is no real way to tell when or where it came from, it can be said that it was created for the simple reason that as punk rock grew in popularity, more people tried to better it, therefor they began to play harder, faster, and with more anger, so the normal slam dance wasn't enough.  If you really are interested in finding the "heritage" of hardcore dancing, i suggest looking for information on early hardcore bands, see when they came about, put may get more answers that way

FSU did not start dancing.  FSU is big, and I have no problem, I've actually met some of the dudes, I've been into hardcore for about 7 years now.  Dancing definitely was not created by 2 dudes in Boston.  No disrespect but its true.
Asking a question like this can't really have too much of an answer.
There are so many different types of just "hardcore dancing" out there, it would be impossible to deem which came first and by whom it was created...

hardcore dancing and mohing are way way different. hardcore dancing involves punching and kicking in the air and people are generally smart enough hot to get in the way. i'veseen people get beaten up for hardcore dancing too close to people. it's not as hardcore as people think, it just looks dangerous.

to go into a circle of kids wearing tight black hoodies and fight invisable ninjas. This may look dangerous, however the ninjas are invisible and also non-realistic, therefor you rarely get hit and if you do it's takin' one for the team, so get up and do some kartwheels and a spin kick. All the hardasses on the outside of the pit who claim you're a fag for being in, are fags for being out.

Yeah, hardcore dancing could be described as flailing with style, but sometimes it is very artful and thought-out looking. If you can dance, people at a hardcore show who can't usually respect and fear you. It's awesome. Until you get kicked in the chest. Then it's really awesome.

No, idiot, "slam dancing" is not what they used to call moshing.  Slam dancing is a term created in the hardcore scene in the early eighties to describe what we do at shows.  It was organized and followed a strict code that everyone abided by, so that noone would get hurt on purpose.

That's so obvious.

HxC dancing originated from the "NASCAR Hardcore Revolution", or as the politically correct call it the "East Tennessee Metal Scene."

The East TN scene god, also known as the great and mighty Nick Dee, invented the throwdown, breakdown, two-step, and ninja dance.

You all are such noobs.

It came by seperating the mosh kids into an art.  More like rank, it shows levels of dancing.  Mosh kids all start out not knowing what they are doing, so they pummel each other.  So one day, I guess, some kids decieded to split off and now show whose the better of them dancing to the beat of the music.  and there you go.
