How can I find out which is the present shell that I am using in my Unix user id??

echo $SHELL  displays the the current shell

See http://www.cyberciti.biz/nixcraft/vivek/blogger/2005/11/how-do-i-find-out-what-shell-im-using.php for a good explanation.  $SHELL does NOT show the current shell but your login shell.  No matter which shell you have changed to in the meantime.
