RAM (Random access memory) is storage that your computer can both create and read.  ROM (Read-only memory) is storage (usually on discs and CDs) that your computer can ONLY read.  It cannot change the information it reads.  The amount of RAM your computer has really determines how many programs of functions you can be running at once.  I read a good example somewhere online... RAM is like a field, programs and functions will take up space in that field.  Once space runs out, you cannot run anymore than that.  But, once a program is taken out, its spot is open again for another program to use.  But not to worry, many computer have enough RAM to compensate for their programs.  You can check RAM space (total, free, and used) in system information, located under the start menu (programs>accessories>system information).  Now, to ROM.  ROM, such as a CD, can only be read by your computer.  Your computer cannot change the data that its reading off the CD.  Thats basically ROM..."read-only" memory.  Hope this helped.

RAM is volatile while ROM is non-volatile.

Informations,Data and Instructions can be read from and written onto RAM but ROM is read only.

RAM(Random Access Memory):Its a read/write memory ,which is volatile.(ie.its contents r lost once power goes off).Since the RAM cells occupy more space the size of RAM is less when compared to ROM.Local variables that r initialized in the program gets stored in the RAM.Stack is in RAM.Since stack is less in size we cannot use recursion n cannot have subroutine depths(nested).

ROM(Read only Memory):Its a non-volatile memory. Here the program code and constant data gets stored.Look up Tables can be stored in the ROM.

ROM – READ ONLY MEMORY
When a PC leaves the factory, it has been programmed to do certain critical things, such as booting up.  This information is stored on the ROM.  Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read.  The information remains in the ROM when the computer is turned off (otherwise you would never be able to get it started again!) and this is known as being non volatile.

RAM – RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY

This is the computer’s main memory, which is available to programs, which read and write to it in order to run properly.  The contents of RAM disappear when the power is turned off (they’re no longer needed) and this is known as volatile.

One Mb of RAM has one million bytes of memory available to use.  The larger the amount of RAM, the quicker programs will run.

RAM- Random Access Memory.
    ROM- Read-Only Memory.
RAM is volatile but ROM is not volatile. RAM is both to emphasize its random function and to distinguish it from ROM. No matter where it is. RAM can be erased or written over a will by the computer software. ROM can be read and used, but they can not be changed by the user, and its contents do not disappear when the power is turned off opposite the RAM.

RAM, is a volatile which means that when a computer is power off, the date that is contained in RAM will be lost.
ROM, is a nonvolatile which means that when the computer is power off,the data contained in the ROM will not be lost.
When the RAM of the computer is small, say like, when it size is 12MB, the speed of that PC will be slow, and if you go on increasing the size of the RAM, its much more better, cause the higher the size of the RAM the higher the speed of the computer.

rom is basically read only memory, and ram random access memory... what more do you need to no? well a lot more... bascially this is all you need to no...RAM is short for Random Access Memory, and comes from hardware components wired into or attached to the motherboard, the main circuit board of your computer. RAM is used to run certain basic programs and functions that your computer needs to operate correctly, and functions only while the computer is receiving power. Programs you're using are written in RAM temporarily while the computer is processing them. Think of RAM as a playing field, a large open area where your programs function. Each program takes up a certain amount of space; the field can accommodate one or several different programs at one time, but its capacity is limited. When you shut down a program, it disappears from RAM and (ideally) the space it occupied can be reused. Sometimes some operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, won't relinquish the RAM space even when a program is closed. However, because stuff in the RAM is retained only while the computer is powered up, turning it off will always clear the RAM.
ROM is an acronym for Read Only Memory, a type of unchangeable memory residing in chips on your motherboard. ROM contains the bare minimum of instructions needed to start your computer. Because it's used for critical functions, it can't be removed short of ripping it out of the motherboard; adding to it is just as difficult. Think of it as analogous to municipal utilities, such as gas and electricity. If you want a different configuration, you'll have to "move on" to a different motherboard or computer. Incidentally, the term "ROM" is also used, not entirely correctly, when referring to some kinds of storage media that can't be modified, such as CD-ROMs.
Basically, RAM is the size of your playing field, and can be increased as you purchase more "real estate"; ROM is equivalent to your utilities, the hardwired bare necessities needed to operate your computer, and is fixed in size; and storage capacity can be thought of as warehouses of various size, some of them mobile, which can be trucked in or constructed as circumstances warrant.

READ ONLY MEMORY ONE IN WHICH INFORMATION IS PERMANENTLY STORE.THE INFORMATION OF THE MEMORY CAN ONLY BE READ.IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO WRITE FRESH INFORMATION IT.IT IS THE NONVOLATILE MEMORY.
RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY ALSO CALLED PRIMARY MEMORY OF COMPUTER SYSTEM.IT IS A VOLATILE MEMORY AND ALL THE DATA IS CLEARED WHEN SYSTEM IS SWITCHED OFF.IN THIS MEMORY WE CAN READ & WRITE ALSO.

The main logical difference between ROM and RAM is the spelling. The vowel o is visibly and pronuancically different from the vowel A. The word they stand for (abreviate) also differs. Some characteristics they may share are the amount of letters they contain and the letter they begin and end with. In my opinion, they have more similarities than differences. Also, both have to do with a computer's memory.
