Moth balls along the front and back of the bed about 3 feet apart. The ammonia smell deters them and is harmless to most everything living in the bed.

There is a pepper powder that is available in most garden centres or pet stores.  It's great in dry weather but if it rains the effect of the pepper is also washed away!

I have been having a bad time with cats in my garden. Some years ago I made the mistake of feeding a hungry mother cat and since then I have all the cats in three countys coming around.I do not mind feeding them and theri many kittens but they love to dig in the fresh soil around my vegstable plant roots.I do not have a problem with that except when my plants are young as  they dig the soil away from the plant roots and they wilt and die.
Since I have tried everything else including fenceing each row on both side.I am going to try the moth balls and hope they will help.
