I HAVE A YORKIE THAT IS AKC REGISTERED WITH FULL REIGISTRATION, BUT HE IS 12lbs. I BELIEVE HE LOOKS LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN A SILKIE AND A YORKIE. HOW COULD THIS BE IF BOTH PARENTS HAD AKC PAPERS? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON THE MATTER OF HIS SIZE AND/OR LOOKS?
THANK YOU.......CC

I have a 12 week old female yorkshire terrier that has a white area on the head and looks like a mix also.  Both parents were registered with CKC (Catactin Kennel Club).  Both with papers, I don't understand how the puppy looks like it is mixed.  You didn't happen to buy from a breeder in Hagerstown, MD?

I also have a male "yorkie" that I bought from a breeder in Arkansas.  He has AKC papers which state that both parents are full blood yorkies.  He is 11 lbs and has floppy ears.  He does however have the nice silver yorkie colors.

I have a 7 yr old yorkie and he is 15 lbs. He's not overweight and he is a diabetic. Yet his sister was a teacup and weighed 5 lbs and his brother was about 6-7 lbs and they have the same lineage. Mikey's hair is soft and easy to groom, yet his siblings hair is very fine and easily tangled. You want a small male to breed with a larger female, it makes it easier to birth and there is no guarantee on the size of the puppy. A little bit larger yorkie has a lesser chance of joint problems. Also, watch the fat content of their foods, high fat can trigger pancreatitis and we just lost our little one two weeks ago due to an ongoing battle with pancretitis. she was only 6.We were not aware of the fact that Yorkies and Schnauzers are prone to pancreatitis and our vet never informed us either.

I have a 31/2 lb., 5 month old Yorkie.  She is turning white on top and in front.  Her back will be very grey.  Someone told me these are called silky yorkies.  Does anyone know about this?

ORIGINALLY YORKIES WERE HEAVIER AND THEY WERE BRED DOWN TO THE CURRENT SIZE.SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET A THROW BACK. ALSO IF A YORKIE IS NEUTERED HE CAN ALSO GAIN WEIGHT AND THIRDLY IF THE DOG OVER EATS AND DOESN'T GET ENOUGH EXERCISE HE WILL GAIN WEIGHT. the STANDARD OF THE AKC FOR SHOW QUALITY IS 4 TO 7 POUNDS.
