I am studing my male Chi but when they mate it just won't connect. What could be the problem?

I suggest consulting a reputable breeder.  I have heard that in some cases the male actually has to be held in position, but I have no experience since I do not breed.

depending on what age he is or if he's never stayed long with his parents or other dogs to see how they mate
