How does planting more trees effective to reducing greenhouse gas emissions?

afforestation is a very necessary part of the earth now...without afforestation there will be a day when only 1 tree might exist..and then when the humans realize it will be too late..(thats when we humans actually realize)
afforestation would mean planting 2 trees on cutting down of one..this will help our planet in many ways..if not us then whose gonna save our planet?
