I would like to know if you have to wait a certain amount of time after you've smoked in order to be Straight Edge. I was told (acctually more like threatened) you have to wait at least a year after you've smoked in order to say that you're sXe.

Also, I've been saying I'm sXe and HxC, but others who say the same don't believe me. I could care less, but they're saying that I make sXe "look bad". If anything, they're the ones making it look bad, because they get into fights all the time and toss threats and insults at innocent people.

There is no amount of time that you have to wait before calling your self straight edge.  The only thing that matters is your level of commitment.  If you are willing to stick to that commitment indefinitely then you are straight edge.
If you are struggling with a recent addiction however, then it might not be the best idea to go around calling your self straight edge.  Make sure that you have your body under control beforehand and that you are strong enough to keep the commitment of not smoking.
Far to often to kids go around saying that they are straight edge after a week of not smoking and then fall back into their addictions the next weekend when they go out with their friends.
If you're going to call your self edge then make sure you mean it.
