If you are thinking about solving this question in terms of allianced nations of the Axis(Germany, Japan, Italy) and Allies(USA, USSR, GB), the simple answer is of course the Allies having defeated the Axis powers and all having contributed to victory. In case you are looking for a single nation who has won WWII it is the USSR. In the European Theatre more than anyone did they destroy Germany, with the Soviet Union being reponsible for more than 70% of Germany's casualties and taking Berlin. Two-third of the German Wehrmacht(which includes most of the experienced soldiers and veterans) fought on the Eastern Front, and even though the Soviets won. In the Pacific Theatre they came in late, and it might have been an 'easy fight', as some people like to call it, but they did succesively attack Japanese forces on the Manchurian border. If we would have never gotten the bomb, most likely the Soviet Union would also have eradicated the Japanese from Korea, Parts of China, and assaulting Japan from the Kurilles and Sachalin. The Soviets took German scientists and used them for their space program as well. Let's not forget who won the race of 'whom will get into space first?'. That the American homeland was not invaded by Axis forces was due to the fact that Germany didn't defeat Britain and thus had no ability to expand Westwards, also their military already had a hard time with taking the Soviet Union. And Japan never stood a chance against the United States of America. They could possibly have taken China and perhaps even India with the existence of a German succes in the Soviet Union, they could only hold off the US from gaining an upper hand in the Pacific when its industrial superiority had been activated. To the people who are saying: "No one can win an war, there are only losers.", We are not trying to find an aswer to the concept "Are there any winners in a war", but to the question which of the five WWII major powers won the war most of all.

It ended not only because Germany was weakening, but conclusively because the bombing by Japan on pearl harbor brought the USA on the side of the allied powers (Britain, France-which was taken over early by Hitler, and later Russia and Italy.) America's industrial/military strength was key to their victory on D-Day, which was the huge operation which re-took Europe, starting from beaches in France. Japan surrendered last, after the atomic bombs (Fat Man and Little Boy) were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Paris Peace Treaties officially ended the war. The Axis powers (by the end it was only Germany and Japan) were exempt from reparations, unlike after WW1, so as to prevent future wars (poverty breeds unrest.) However many of Hitler's underlings (Himmler...) were put on trial in International Court for war crimes(of the United Nations), and executed.

RUSSIANS are the true gladiators of world war 2.They deserve the victory much more than any other nation of the world.Facing the initial brunt of the war and enemy many folds stronger,they were subjected to a ruthless armies of HITLER.Russians faced the Germans when they were at the heights of there strength.Struggling against the finest millitary in the world they suffered heavy casualities not even comparable to any other country,experiencing the most desperate and hopeless situation they emerged stronger than ever before to defeat their enemy in REICH itself.May be they have not won economically or on the basis of casualities,but certainly they are the one who have won moraly.

When the war had ended everyone had thrown big parties in the streets to welcome the soldier�s home but also many unfortunately never survived. So this was a sad and happy moment for the people. The German forces had surrendered in 7 May 1945 in northern France as Hitler had committed suicide realising that all was lost. This day was called VE- (Victory in Europe) Day. Three months later after the two atomic bombs had dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two Japanese islands Japan surrendered on 14 August 1945. This was called VJ- (Victory in Japan) Day, six years of war and at last the world had peace. On VE-Day the Prime Minster Winston Churchill wore his best clothes and went to the House of Commons and spoke on the radio. Then he went to Buckingham Palace and stood on the balcony with King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

World War 2 was the most terrifying war. It was 66 years ago on September 1st 1939, Germany invaded Poland without warning. By the time that was happening in September 3rd, Britain and France were at war with Germany and in a week, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa had also joined the war! Six long and hard years of total war, fought over many thousand of square kilometres followed. On land, sea and in the air, Poles fought Germans, Italians fought Americans and Japanese fought Australians in a conflict which was finally settled with horrible nuclear weapons. World War 2 involved every major world power in a war for global domination and at its end, more than 60 million people had died and most of Europe and large parts of Asia lay in ruins.

WW2 started due to the rise of nationalism amongst the nations. Hitler built a strong, re-united Germany after WW1, and his leadership along with his Fascist pal Mussolini in the relatively young Italy, brought about a cultural revolution through the Nazi party. The new love of nation over love of world caused the German people who were still paying war debts and still had the Rhineland taken away by the unfair treaty of Versailles, which had made Germany take all the blame. Germany began an aggressive foreign policy, moving into "German-speaking lands" to free the Germans living there. In reality, obviously it was just to get more land and money. Due to similar government policies, Italy and Germany became easy companions, and Mussolini's Italy was the prime testing grounds to see if other nations would adopt the anti-semitism. it worked, too well, in fact. So Italy, Germany, and all of the German occupied states began an aggressive foreign policy. What finally erupted the world to war was Germany'sviolent reclaiming of the Rhineland. this infuriated France, who was holding it, and because of this, all of France's allies. Initially, The US stayed out of the war, but when Pearl Harbor was bombed, it immediately entered into it. Personally, given the strange circumstances and other happenings, I think that the government knew that pearl Harbor was going to be bombed and let it happen so that it would give the US an excuse into the war. However, once they entered, it was a swift turnaround. After D-Day, Germany's armies, while better equipped with greater engineered guns and tools of war, could not match the numbers of the allies, and not to mention the German guns had to be kept crystal clean in order for them not to work properly, while American guns could be drug through dirt and still work. The battle of the bulge was the last out Germany had, but thanks to general Patton, the allies won. And not that I like the French, but if not for the French Fighting Resistance, the US would not have had hardly any of the information they needed for such a swift move through Europe. the war ended shortly after the atomic bombs were dropped in japan, and in Europe, the death of Hitler and his top aids sent a shock wave of hope and happiness worldwide.

ok seriously... all of you found out somewhere... you didn't just automatically know the answer... so chill out and leave this saraita person alone... i think you are all sad to be into the whole war thing enough to care that someone didn't know when it ended... personally, i was taught it once but didn't remember because i don't care because war is gay and history is too.... and don't give me the 'people need to learn from history' crap because people don't learn from history which is why wars still happen... so yeah... my main point is get over the fact that one person didn't know when to stupid thing ended cause once upon a time, you didn't know either also just so you know... wikipedia is a bad place to get your research from cause anyone can put information there

world war two ended at a cause of a fall in the axis powers. i.e the last standing Axis power was Japan, germany had become week when hitler tryed very stupidly to take over Russia and the rest of the Soviet union. the allied won genraly because of over powering the Axis( this was the Atomic bomb, thats how they over powered the Axis.) there are many reasons that the Allied won the war, Winston Churchill was one of the greatest influences at the time of the war and may belivie he is one of the reasons the Allied stayed strong, but the true reason is because of the USSR and USA. they had a good economic and militery standing before entering the war and also feed other countries with matirials, economics, troops/armys. World war two ended on 9th August 1945 this was the day the last of the Axis powers admitted defeat, it was the day the second nuclear bomb was dropped on japan.

WWII started in 1939, ended in May 1945 with Russians capturing Eastern Part of Berlin and raising their flag over Reinshtag (Hitler's political, military residence), western part of Berlin was captured by Western Allies (French, English, US, Canadian). Victory was shared among Allies. As far as who played the most important role then the answer is clear it was Russia or USSR back then. One of the key battles Stalingrad (in this battle Germans lost more soldiers, tanks, equipment then in the whole war with WEST including Britain, FrANCE, Poland, Canada, US.) and that was just one battle not to include battle for Moscow and Kurskaya duga which were fought in USSR, battles that took place in Western Europe were significant and important but considering casualties were minimal for both sides. D-day involved less manpower and military equipment including both sides (german vs.allies) then a single fighting day in Stalingrad. That should give you the picture of the war in east and west. Magnitude of the fighting in the east was by far bigger then in the west. Some historians claim that just because fighting was more fierce in East does not mean that West contributed less to the victory. Dont forget that by the time West started to really fight Germans late 1943-1945, Eastern Front almost defeated 90% of All German Forces in the world combined! Research suggests that 95% of all German Forces were involved in the East (USSR and eastern Europe) leaving 5% fighting in the West. I think that answers the question who won WWII.

The reason that WWII ended was that Germany was losing so Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945. Germany surrendered unconditionally one week later on May 7th.

World War 2 started almost 65 years ago on September 1st 1939, when Germany invaded Poland without warning. By the evening of September 3rd, Britain and France were at war with Germany and within a week, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa had also joined the war. World War 2 lasted for 6 years and 60 million people died from this war.

World War 2 was full of danger, fear, hat ness and all those things that are not good. World War2 was not a good time of the world. If we have a war again there will be nothing left in the world. (In Remembrance Day lets think about the death of the Soldiers)

World War 2 Did not end in the first week of September like everyone thinks. The end of the war is when there is a clear defeat and if the opposing sides of all the enemies surrenders. Studies have shown that That some of Hitlers allies did not give up until September 15,1945. P.S. you are not an idiot!!
