My 12 yr old Springer Spaniel has just been diagnosed with cystic kidney failure bilateral. Any body have any ideas other than a diet of KD which is what my vet is recomending. She has been losing weight at the rate of 5% per month and your has a voracious appetite. Please anyone who can point me in the right direction as I live in a rural community and my Vet is not up to speed on this illness.

My dog has the same thing.  Unfortunately this is common for older dogs and there is really nothing you can do.  Feeding your dog low protein foods (starchy, KD) will help prolong their life... but no cure.  My dog only ate the KD for about a week before she got sick of it.  Surprisingly we feed her cooked cabbaged and she ate that.... along with bread.
