I've had my belly button piercing for about 6 months now. It looks like it's healing well and I can move it around without much discomfort. However, I am still noticing the white discharge that comes out of the piercing and it becomes very itchy at times. Does anyone know when, or if this discharge will stop and why my piercing still itches?  Thanks.

I've had my belly button pierced since March last year. It's going fine, the key is to not play with it, don't even touch it when you clean it because when you do the hole under your skin where the bar-bell goes through actually becomes bigger which eventually makes your body refuse the jewel and that's how it grows out. So remember... don't touch!!! I should know, my friends a tatooist/ body piercer!!xo

Hi, I'm a part-time piercer at my local salon, I'll try to help any way I can (even though this response is a bit late... ah well, I can advise future piercees lol).

To Sarah: yeah, it sounds like you have an infection. Does the pus have a yellow tinge? If so it may just be the natural secretion of the skin to aid healing. You can take the barbell out if things get worse, don't just hope it'll sort itself out. If you don't want to take your piercing out then go to the piercer you used or even a doctor. Make sure you still clean the piercing and check to make sure the actual barbell/ring isn't made of a cheap material. Eventually, the discharge should stop.

To Jen: you CAN still get pierced, but make sure you ask for a silver or gold barbell. This should prevent any mis-haps with the whole issue. Don't buy cheap jewellry either, splash out on some decent stuff.

Hope this helps, happy piercing! xxx
