My daugher who is now 25 years old was on an apnea monitor for 20 months. She is now having a baby and is concerned about her baby. Should she use a monitor for her baby?

I have spoken to many parents who have lost their children to SIDS..........  and even though SIDS is not an apnea event, the majority of the parents I've talked to have used apnea monitors with subsequent children........  and have felt so much more comfortable doing so.......  after losing my daughter to SIDS, the apnea monitor would be the first thing on my list when and if we ever decide to have another child; just as an added security for myself.
If there is a history of sleep apnea (as is with your daughter), it would be wise to consider it.........

although it could help in an apnea episode with an infant, I just want to add it would not help in the case of SIDS....  as our physician stated, by the time the monitor beeps, it is already to late if it is SIDS...  the baby cannot be revived.

Apnea episodes are a different story and my advice would be to do whatever will help the parent be more comfortable in the care of their infant.
