Wait until at least two years of age. You may have to skip up to three heats to accomplish this. This gives their bodies time to mature and is especially important in smaller dogs since their small size can cause problems. Also make sure your dam and sire are checked for all the common diseases in this breed and up to date on shots and vaccinations. Since there is so much to know in breeding (heat signs, the timing to breed, health issues, signs of pregnancy, care, Whelping care, signs, complications, and solutions, puppy care and feeding, nursing care, selling, etc) you should know as much as you can before taking this responsibility on. The things I listed are only the basics and the minimum you should know. Good luck to you! If you need any more help I will be happy to assist you! stanishas@aol.com. Bye! Tanisha

I am thinking about breeding my yorkie one time.  She is a family pet and I am not looking to make money just a litter.  I don't know a lot about this at all other than dogs in my past having pups.  Do you think this would or could change her personalty?  Any information would be great.

Just wondering if the 2 year age is applicable for a sire also.  I understand the risks for a dam but we have a male and are looking into using him for a stud service.  Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Phyllis
