Why do pool sticks have different weights?  Does the weight of a stick compensate for how hard or soft a person shoots?

no weights are the players own preference, most professional players play with a weight from 18 oz. to 21 oz. with 19.5 being the most common

It has different weights mainly for players' preference. However, advanced players will use different weights for breaking, jumping, masse, etc.  When I first started playing, I used a 21 oz. Several years later, I now play with an 18.5 oz. It just feels better to me. You can e-mail me a 9baller @ countries.com.

I play with a 21 for breaking, 18 for jumping and either 19 or 20 for normal play.  It works the best for me.
