It's ok to apply moderate hydrogen peroxide to cleanse infected area of tattoo.  Apply Bacitracin after the application of peroxide to help heal infections.  Good luck!

Never ever ever put hydrogen peroxide on a tattoo ever! It is not even recommended as wound care by medical personell anymore because of it's possible necrotising capabilities. The idea of hydrogen peroxide is that the bubbles will lift out the foreign objects, like ink, from the wound. Bad idea. See your artist he will no if it's infection or reaction or a dermatologist, an infection will be prescribed antibiotic.

I would be cautious about using peroxide on a tattoo.I got an infected tattoo and got myself to a doctor, the tattoo was three days old but did not behave like my other previous ones and became red and slightly swollen. It also hurt.It is above my ankle.Im starting my first full day of cephalexin ,generic for keflex.Last night I did my first 2.Im taking 4 a day. I dont think Ill be getting any more tattoos Ive been on line looking up imfo and Tattoos can be very risky!

place a warm compress on it three times daily to bring the swelling and sensitivity down. after the put a thin layer of bacitracin on it to keep the color and kill any bacteria that might be causing the infection. if that doesn't work...go to a doctor.

Never ever use peroxide or polysporin on a new tattoo. Wash with a mild soap (Ivory or sunlight) and use a product called "Tattoo Goo" to treat the area. A Tattoo infection will typically be swollen. red and hot to the touch. If this is the case seek medical help immediately
