ok. I'm 17 and had it done 6 weeks ago. For all of you thinking of getting it done. Just be careful. The jewelry parlors are not always clean. Make sure that they use new nettles every time they pierce someone. If you are unsure about getting it done (or your parents are) do some more research and call shops around the city. The piercing itself does not hurt. Of course everyone is different when it comes to pain. It hurt me more afterwords. And Erica, it does'ntmatter what size you are. Anyways, after you get it pieced, clean it!! The last thing you want is to get it infected. And also, be sure you don't change the jewelry until there is no more redness, crusts, discharge of any color and the entrance and exit wounds have sorta curved in. I also want my belly button peirced (and what do yah know im 14) what they do is: The entry and exit points for the piercing were previously marked out when the patient was standing Disinfect the skin surface of the navel using a Betadine swab. Injecting the entry point for the piercing with lidocaine through a 26 gauge needle. The needle is advanced under the skin to inject lidocaine at the exit point. A prick with the 26gauge needle is used to confirm that the lidocaine has worked. A 14 gauge piercing cannula is introduced painlessly into the skin. The piercing cannula exits the skin at the inferior end of the piercing. The barbell is introduced into the piercing cannula The barbell is being guided through the piercing by the cannula. The barbell has now traversed the entire length of the piercing and its thread is visible at the superior end of the piercing. Screwing the top ball of the barbell on by hand. Tightening the top ball of the barbell with a needle holder The piercee has stood up slowly and the finished piercing is seen with the client standing. To let you know NOT ALL peircing places do this!

I have had mine done for a looong time now and i work at Hot Stuff in the mall here and handle the piercing (I dont do them but im the assistant).. I'll be glad to answer ANY questions you have about it and clear up some of the already mis-conceptions people had posted on the board.. Most of those people only say they have it done online just to be smart or "cool" I got it done when i turned 15. They make you lie down and look away (you dont have to but its recommended so you dont get nervous and tense up) The person say'scount to three and take a deep breath and about 2 seconds later your all done. It hurts like it would hurt getting your ears pierced. People on the board say it takes 6 months to heal. Obviously they read their pamphlets wrong or were miss informed. It only takes (at most) 6 weeks to heal. And someone said clean it two to three times a day to be safe. You should only clean it No Less than twice a day but no more than twice a day unless you start to see an infection. Just because it turns red doesnt mean its infected. It usually starts turning red about 1-2 weeks after the initial piercing. Its HEALING and its okay. It will also itch. Its okay to LIGHTLY scratch the outter area of your navel with CLEAN HANDS. Dial Antibacterial soap is best. For the first two to 5 weeks try and wash your hands as often as possible. And use Dial as often as possible. For the first few days only wear loose fitting shirts and shorter shirts as often as possible. You shouldnt get it wet (besides cleaning) for 2 weeks. Some places let friends in with you some dont. All places will let at least one parent in with you but that is up to you. All places are different about age with out parental consent. But the youngest (layed out by law) is 16. If it is required to have parental consent you will have to have a document with all your allergies, medications, doctors names, etc. listed as well as parents names address, etc. on it Notarized. Some places have a notary on hand, some dont, but usually there is a notary close by the shop. Make sure you know the needle is clean. Watch the piercer before hand to see where the needle came from. Hey, I'm 15 and i got my naval peirced in August. Its still healing but it looks pretty good. I wanted it pierced for ever and my mom said yes, but my dad said no. SO i just begged all the time and showed him all my friends that had it done. One day we passed the Exit to New Hope (where i wanted to get it done) and he looked at me and was like.. " you wanna get that thing done?" and i was like YEAH!!! so we went. I went to this place called Primal Urge. They are so clean there and you go upstairs to there little room and it looks like a hospital room its has the bed and the paper on it and everything it white and its all disentfected and clean. My dad was like your freakin crazy. He held my hand but it didnt hurt at all! i Didn't even feel it! They lady was like ok.. And needle, ring, ball, and were done! my dad is a wuss and he had tears in his eyes. And i was like umm did you peirce it yet? lol, O, and get platnum!! Im telling you right now get platnum cause its the best medal, dont get anything with nickle and clean it everytime you take a shower. And the beach is the best for it cause of the salt water. I was so happy cause i went to the beach the following week and i looked good and got to go in the ocean. It rocked!

ANSWERS: Bre, when you take it out it dose leave a scar. Kay, you shouldnt have peirced it yourself, but i know peeps who have and thiers is fine you gotto be sure u have good medal and take care of it, Relle, yea like 4 months later mine had like a pinkish around it it goes away, Virgo, you can swim but don't turn the ring when your in the pool and make sure you clean it when you get outa the pool cause the chlorine and the ocean is good for it. Clean it everytime you take a shower. Don't wear clothes like pantyhose or tight shirts over it during the healing process. And if your sensitive to nickle don't get nickle i have platnum and it never got infected. hey! im 13 and i really wany my belly button pierced!!! my friend is 12 and she just got it done! she said it doesnt hurt @ all. but its different 4 evry1!!! i convinced my mom (finally!!!) @ 1st she thought i was joking but i kept asking (not bugging though!) and she realized that i was serious. she and i both did a little research and she talked to her friend had had it done when she was a little younger. shes going to let me get it done!!! i wanted to have it for the summer (2 show off of course! lol jk i though salt water would be good 4 it) but i also horseback ride. i do horse shows almost every wkend in the summer, and we decided that it would be easily infected and it would hhurt because you have 2 wear ur riding pants up near ur navel with a belt and everything on top. ive been doing even more research, and i saw a lot of pictures and heard a lot of stories. before you decide, look @ pics. of people getting it done. if you get sick or feel like you're bout 2 pass out....reconsider. @ 1st it is a little shocking, but feel comfertable w/ wat your looking @ b4 u decide 2 go thru it urself! im gettin mine this fall (sept of 04) and i cant wait! it looks awesum! mi friends looks great!!! just b brave-make sure ur sure u want 1, not cuz u just wanna look "cool"-and make sure ur comfertable w/ the procedure. also read a few of peoples stories-u get 2 hear horror and suscess stories then figure out which 1 u tink u would end up havin. do u also stick to ur word? r u dedicated? (cleanin 2wice a day!) and brave? (the hole thing is a lil scary!) i just have 1 question: can you hav a friend or parent there in the room with you? i def. would want my mom (hey ill admit tat lol it IS a lil scary!) and mayb a friend hoo is also gettin it dun (if sum1 else can!!) thx evry1! good luck 2 me (lol) and evry1! i tink itll b very well worth it!

Or do you go back to the shop and let them do it for you? I have my belly button pierced. I got really worked up before I got it it done. I made sure that everything was sterile first and it made me feel alot better. About does it hurt or not, well, when you lie down and he/she puts the clamp on, it's a little scary to think about. The piercer will tell you to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth and he counts to three. While he was counting, I started to think about other things like what my boyfriend would say and before you know it, like ten seconds later, the piercer was telling me that it looked really awesome. It didn't hurt. All I felt was the clamp. I could not feel the needle going in or out and I didn't feel the ring going in or the ball being screwed on. All you have to do is not think about it....REMEMBER::::::MIND OVER MATTER...it works.

I will never understand how so many people who have replied here think that the ocean shudders is good for a fresh piercing. Yeah, it's great. It's only filled with tons of waste and pollution, and there's only so much bacteria growing in the ocean, and only so many other people there swimming in the ocean. If you didn't catch it, though, that was sarcasm, and no, the ocean is not your healing piercing's friend. Rings are not good for your navel, for several reasons. The shape of the rings can put unneccessary pressure on the piercing, they're a bit more difficult to heal with as they tend to get caught a lot more, and a lot of times even if the piercing is straight the holes can kind of shift to a more crooked setting because of the way that the ring sits. CBB [curved barbells] are a lot better.

I am 13 & today I just got my Navel pierced at twisted tatoos in tx (hurst off of pipeline) for 30$ This place was EXTREMELY steril & the guy who did it was sweet!!Buh since im thirteen if I get a grow spurt It might move up with the rest of my skin yuck!! Buh I went ahead & did it & it looks cut the truth is the clamps do not hurt more then the piercing , buh the piercing it's self didnt hurt that much My dad said I didnt even flinch , even though I am EXTREMELY sensitive so yah its so cute ... though you cant go swimming for about 6 weeks after its peirced! oh well its so cute!! :) Luv, Rogue

I am 14 years old and I just got my navel pierced yesterday...I have a few facts for some people that I just learned... 1.Be sure that you wash your navel piercing 2-3 times a day so that it doesnt't get infected. 2.The best soap to use is Dial soap because of the germ killing power ( I use the hand soap <PUMP> Kind because its easier then the bar of soap) 3.Here in Illinois you have to be 16 without your parent and if you are under age you have to have a birth parent and a photo ID. 4.I've had my Navel Pierced twice now and it doesnt hurt that bad... It hurt when they do it but you can barely tell its there after that. 5.If you are in a sport be EXTRA careful! I'm in cheerleading and we are not aloud to wear ours when performing because they are very easy to get ripped out. 6.You must have yours in for at least 6 months before changing it but it varies for different people. 7.Do NOT
