1999 Jeep Cherokee harmonic rumble vibration on 55 mph .brings tears to your eyes at times..rumble  as well as moderate pull on a hill...

Check the universal joints on both ends of the drive shaft with drive shaft removed from vehicle.

If joints are fine, it may be that the angle of the pinion at the rear axle is too high when compared to the angle of the yoke at the transmission.  If suspension is stock, this may be caused by worn or damaged rear springs (sagging) or by a worn or broken transmission mount.  Good luck

That's about $1000 worth of rear end work you're hearing.

My 1999 grand cherokee has had the rear end rebuilt twice for the same problem .. once at 9,000 miles (warranty) and again at 90,000 (visa).
