In french, you can find the lyrics easily on the web, but If you would like to know the translation:

Love is a rebellious bird
That nothing can tame,
And it's simply in vain to call it
If it's convenient for it to refuse
Nothing will work, threat or pleading,
One speaks well, the other is quiet,
And it's the other that I prefer
He said nothing, but he pleases me,
Love,
love,
love,
love,
Love is the child of a bohemian
It has never, never known any law,
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself,
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you,
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself,

The bird that you thought to surprise,
Beat its wings and flew away,
Love is far away, you can wait for it,
If you wait for it no more, it is there,
All around you, quickly, quickly,
It comes, goes, then it returns,
You think to hoild it, it avoids you,
You think to avoid it, it holds you,
love,
love,
love,
love,
Love is the child of a bohemian
It has never, never known any law,
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself,
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you,
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself,

Akk, that took a while, hope this helps!

  Carmen:
The bird you caught to you had
spreads it's wings and flies apart ...

L'amour est un oiseau rebelle
que nul ne peut apprivoiser,
et c'est bien en vain qu'on l'appelle,
s'il lui convient de refuser!
Rien n'y fait, menace ou prière,
l'un parle bien, l'autre se tait;
et c'est l'autre que je préfère,
il n'a rien dit, mais il me plaît.

L'amour! l'amour! l'amour! l'amour!

battit de l'aile et s'envola;
l'amour est loin, tu peux l'attendre,
tu ne l'attends plus, il est là.
Tout autour de toi, vite, vite,
il vient, s'en va, puis il revient;
tu crois le tenir, il t'évite,
tu crois l'éviter, il te tient!

L'amour! l'amour! l'amour! l'amour!

There are lyrics to the Habanera.  They are in French so I will put both the French and English words.

L'Amour est un oiseau rebellle
***Love is a rebellious bird
Que nul ne peut apprivoiser.
***That nothing can tame.
Et c'estbien en vain qu'onl'appelle
***And it is simply in vain to call it,
S'illui convenient de refuser
***If it is convenient fo rit to refuse.

Rien n'yfait, menace ou priere,
***Nothing will work threat or pleading,
L'unparle bien, l'autrese tait;
***One speaks, the other stays quiet;
Et c'estl'autreque je prefere
***And it's the other that I prefer
Il n'arien sit; mais il me tient.
***He said nothing; but he pleases me.

L'amourest un oiseau rebelle
***Love is a rebellious bird
L'Amour
***Love
Que nul ne peut apprivoiser
***That nothing can tame
L'Amour
***Love
Et c'estbien en vain qu'onl'appelle***And it is simply in vain to call it
L'Amour
***Love
S'illui convenient de refuser
***If it is convenient fo rit to refuse.

L'Amour est enfant se Boheme,
***Love is the child of the Bohemian,
Il n'ajamais connu se loi,
***It has never, never known any law,
Si tu ne m'aimepas, je t'aim
***If you don't love me, I love you,
Si je t'aime prend garde a toi!
***If I love you, keep guard of yourself!

The whole song is basically she is flirting with the soldiers trying to seduce them so she can drop them on their butts. And the actual translation is this(it was published by an Opera company):

Love's a bird that will live in freedom,
That no man ever learned to tame
And in vain men may call and call her
If she's no mind to play their game!
They'll find nothing they do will tempt her,
The one tries charm, the other's dumb!
And that other's the one I fancy,
He may not talk, but he's the one!

Love's a bird that will live in freedom,
That no man ever learned to tame
And in vain men may call and call her
If she's no mind to play their game!

Oh love was born to Gypsy life,
A life that's free, that is as free as air;
You may not love me, yet I love you,
But if I love you, then you take care!

But this bird that you thought you'd taken
Has flapped her wings and flown away;
When love's gone then you sit there waiting,
You give up waiting, down she'll fly!
All around you she'll fly so quickly,
She's there, she's gone, she's back in view,
Think you've caught her and she'll escape you,
Think you've escaped and she's caught you!

Oh love was born to Gypsy life,
A life that's free, that is as free as air;
You may not love me, yet I love you,
But if I love you, then you take care!

When will I love you?
Good lord, I don't know,
Maybe never, maybe tomorrow.
But not today, that's certain.

Love is a rebellious bird
That nothing can tame,
And it is simply in vain to call it
If it is convient for it to refuse.
Nothing will work, threat or pleading,
One speaks, the other stays quiet;
And it's the other that I prefer
He said nothing; but he pleases me.
Love! Love! Love! Love!

Love is the child of the Bohemian,
It has never, never known any law,
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you!
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you!
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!

The bird you thought to surprise
Bat its wing and flew away;
Love is far away, you can wait for it;
If you wait for it no more, it is there!
All around you, quickly, quickly,
It comes, goes, then it comes back!
You think to hold it, it avoids you;
You think to avoid it, it holds you!
Love, love, love, love!

Love is the child of the Bohemian,
It has never, never known any law,
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you!
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you!
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!

my interpretation is a little different i think this is a prettier way to translate the above. You can decide

Love, love is a rebel bird
that nobody can ever tame,
and you call him quite in vain
if it suits him not to come.
Nothing helps, nor threat nor prayer.
One man talks well, the other's mum;
it's the other one that I prefer.
He's silent but I like his looks.
Love! Love! Love! Love!
Love, love is a gypsy child,
it has never, never, known a law;
love me not, then I love you;
if I love you, you'd best beware! etc.
The bird you thought you had caught
spreads its wings and flies away ...
love stays away, you wait and wait;
when least expected, love appears!
All around you, swift, so swift,
it comes, it goes, and then returns ...
you think you hold it fast, it flees
you think you're free, it holds you fast.
Love! Love! Love! Love!

actually it is sung with proper french pronunciation. The last syllables in french poetry/song are exaggerated....unless the are followed by a vowel or at the end of the line...so why it might sound Italian to you, rest assure that it is indeed french.

There is also an entirely English arrangement by a Dr. Th. Baker. It sticks closely to the literal translation in most parts, but the words are arranged a bit to make it sound more like a song.
