I have a Basset hound I wanted to breed I was told she would be in heat anytime from 7 months old and to watch for it. She has been in heat for about 2 weeks now and I was wondering if she could be pregnant by a stray? My yard is not fenced in and the stay was around for 3 days till I caught it. I'm worried because her nipples seem to be larger?! Is this normal? She is still having some leakage too, so I'm still hoping she is not. I would like to breed her, but I wanted to wait till she was a little older maybe 1.5 to 2 years.

male running around with her freely while she is in heat? For three days? It would be beyond a miracle if she has not been bred by now. Swollen nipples are a sign of heat and she is still leaking because she is still in heat. If she is outside with no boundaries to keep her in or males out she WILL without a doubt get bred. You have to keep her completely away from all dogs during this time. You can go to jefferspet.com and get a spray that covers up the odor that attracts the males and a diaper that will prevent breeding. If you think she is pregnant you can email me with questions about signs, length, etc of pregnancy. Tanisha
Also before you consider breeding for your dogs safety at least know the timing, length, requirements of breeding: signs, length, exercise, feeding, etc of pregnancy; signs, stages, length, problems, etc of whelping; care, vaccination, selling, etc of the pups.I know you love your dog and will make sure she is well taken care of. Good luck! Tanisha

your dog might not be pregnant if her nipples are not lacktating  (making milk) then there is a great possibility but the best thing to do is to ask your vet
