It's because of the laws governing private citizens keeping exotic animals; in the vast majority of places, that's illegal.  Several states (and individual cities in some others) continue to classify ferrets as exotics, as inaccurate as that classification is.  DC is one of them.

(As a side note, this is NOT the kind of stupid rule that should be protested by defying it.  If your friend is caught, he/she will be fined heavily, and the ferret will lose a lot more than money, as it will be killed.)

I say It is wrong. Ferrets are not dangerous or harmful. I say they should change that. And I Do Say it is a stupid rule. People can keep dangerous poison spiders and boa's that kill people as pets and they are not illegal? How pathetic.

i think its wrong to kill an animal like that. it has done nothing wrong. the ferret didnt know he or she was illegal. they should transfer the ferret to a state where the ferret is not illegal.

i heard that ferrets were illegal because they tend to attack little children. they scratch the kids head or neck and then they start drinking their blood and then they start eating its flesh!!!!!! but that is just what i heard, i don't think its true, but that's what the internet said!!!

I believe the reason for not allowing Ferrets in these states is because of the fact that they are carnavors and if the get loose they can attack farm animals.

Ferrets are just about the same as rats in my opinion, so why are ferrets classified as exotics in some places, and not in all?
