My dog is a cocker spaniel and has one blood shot eye.  Can you tell me how to get rid of this.

Also, when I go to clip his nails, he screams do you have the same problem?

hi i don;t know abt the bolldshot eyes, but I think if your cocker makes any noise of pain when cutting the nail it means that you have probably cut into the vein and hurt it. I always ask the vet to cut my dog's nails. Even though he cut it a little too close for comfort the last time, my dog didn't make any sounds, just paw-shy.

Was your dog born with this? or did it recently happen? It could just be a broken blood vessel in his eye, i would definitely ask your vet about it, Humans get blood shot eyes from all sorts of things, and i would imagine the same with another mammals like a dog for instance. As for him crying when you cut his nails, i would say you are cutting to far into his nail, there is a pink spot (which is the vein) you definitely don't want to cut into that, a helpful tip my vet told me was to cut straight down, rather than sideways, this avoids cutting the vein.
