The carburetor in my 1987 Plymouth Horizon is horrible. It was acting up pretty badly, so I took it to the shop and had it repaired for $200 something. It was driving well at first now it's crappy again; every once and a while it will backfire a few times in a row, and it's hard to get past 25 mph, once I do there is no problem. I think it's a low end thing... I have read online that a lot of people have problems with their carburetor getting gunky, or malfunctioning. Can anyone help me out?

All the people I've ever spoken with agree that the carbs put into the Horizons and Omnis were junk right out of the factory. There isn't too much you can do to correct the problem short of buying a whole new unit.

if you do decide to remove your carb be very carful...first of all i would not recommend it...if it is done a tiny bit wrong you will have to have it re built...what you can do is though....spray the inside of the carb with a cleaner from the local automotive store...then take it for a long drive...at high rpms....about 60 miles should do it....after that you will feel the difference....
