They are such a smart breed.  If you can arrange a pet door and use treats to show them how to go in and out they soon feel superior that they have access to indoor and out

My breeder told me not to reinforce my puppy's behavior with treats but to use praise.  We found that much more effective.  I suggest keeping the dog in a small area of your house and starting to teach him from there.  We used the kitchen so that messes could be cleaned up easily.  If you have the time, try to keep your eyes on the puppy. If you catch the dog about to have an accident, clap your hands loudly, take him\her outside right away and then praise the dog when its finished.  Since yorkies have such small stomachs, they reliably have to go to the bathroom about 20-30 mins after they have eaten/drank.  Try setting them outside after this time period so that they can get the hang of the routine.  Another tip: clean up their messes with a cleaner that isn't harmful to pets but has an odor strong enough to keep them from going there again.
