Dear Sir/Madam,
I have a query. Well, one or two. I want to know if you can meditate with your eyes open. Perhaps by gazing with your eyes open a few feet in front of you. Sitting 'upright in a chair’ with your hands gently resting on your lap. And then by feeling the breath either - for example - at the tummy or feeling the breath at the nostrils. Or maybe 'any' place where the feel of the breath is strongest. Is the above a 'valid' meditation. Can you also direct me to meditations - like the above- where you keep your eyes open. Also is it okay to breath through your mouth if your nose is blocked.
I have read that there are two types of meditation. One being  a concentration type meditation. Like the one  I mentioned above.  Where you keep your focus on your breath and when thoughts come along - as they will - you  gently bring it back to the anchor of the breath. Another type of meditation I have read about is a mindfulness type meditation. Where you just observe your thoughts. Which is unlike a concentration meditation For example you may to begin to 'focus' on your breath. And as you become 'quite'  you may become aware of anything that happens in experience. For example, the breath, body sensations, sounds. emotions and thoughts. And you stay with what happens in the meditation as long as you are aware ands not distracted. Otherwise return to breathing until the attention is more stable.
So, does 'mindfulness meditation' lead on from concentration  meditation. And, is it more advanced and therefore something to aim towards. Can you direct me to the two types of meditation I have mentioned. Especially one where you have your eyes open.
Thanking you for your time and patience
                                                        Regards
                                                           Wyn

I think that the second type is better, but the importance is don't concentrate to anything.
Please try that, seat the same way as you use to seat for meditation  open you eyes and dont forcus on anything. You could close your eyes by themself.
