What tips do you have for ways to protect bagpipes from the high heat in a car in the summertime? It's not always convenient to carry the pipes out of the car when traveling.

Wood bagpipes do not handle high temperatures or quick changes in temperature well. You could place place your pipes in a cooler (no moisture though) as it's well insulated, purchase a set of synthetic bagpipes (such as those made of Polypenco or Delrin) which are much more resilient to heat and cold, or the least risk is to simply not leave them in your car in extreme conditions.
