Suppose an idle TCP connection exists between sockets A and B. A third party has eavesdropped and knows the current sequence number at both ends.  What happens if the third party sends socket 'A' a forged packet from 'B' and with a 100 bytes of new data?

Socket 'A' will crash and burn. After it wakes up the next day, it will get very angry at 'B' and kill 'B'. 'B' doesn't know what is going on so it tries to run away, eventually it will end up having nowhere to run and it will get killed by 'A'.

The third party will watch with interest while chewing on popcorn.
