To Answer ck�s question and to anyone elses WW1 didn�t start till a month after the shooting of Archduke Franz Ferdinand� There were also tensions between the competing alliances of Europe (Austria-Hungry, Italy and Germany Verses France, Russian and Great Britain) Nationalism, imperialism and militarism all played a big part in the tensions that caused the first world war. There were also tensions after the Balkan wars, the Moroccan crisis and the Bosnian crisis, there were also arguments between Austria-Hungary and Serbia over boundaries. The competing alliances played a big role in the Great War. The killing of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the trigger to start a world war. Hope that answered or helped anyone

WW1 started because of alliances. Austria-Hungary was in alliance with Germany (called the Triple Alliance) & Russia, France, and Great Britain were in alliance (called the Triple Entente). Austria-Hungary wanted Serbia (to expand their country), however, so did Russia. Now Germany, being Austria-Hungary's alliance, had to help them and they knew that if this would continue between AH (Austria-Hungary) & Russia, they would start a war for Serbia. Germany then created the Shleiffen plan - a plan to attack France (allianced with Russia) and then be able in time to attack Russia fighting them off leaving AH with Serbia. However, Great Britain got involved - hence WW1. All of Europe fighting with each other because of Alliances.

It is a terrible shame that there are so many people of such little intelligence. I have not read a single answer posted that is of any use to anyone. The simplest answer to the question "why was WW1 started� is Language, Borders, and Culture. The desire for national independence based on language and culture always starts wars over borders. In the Austrian � Hungarian Empire alone, there were 15+ different languages spoken. This kind of division always weakens an empire/nation. Serbia and Austria-Hungary started WW1. Nationalism based on language and culture provided the perfect catalyst. Why the rest of Europe (and later the US) got into the fight, is another subject.

The spark of WW1 was the assassination of Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Prinzip, a member of "The Black Hand," a Serbian nationalist group. However, this was not the cause. The causes are simply: alliances, expanionist tendencies of Germany (Middeleuropa), imperialism and nationalism. The alliances is what turned the war into a world war. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, a Russian protectorate. Since Germany and Italy had an alliance with Austria-Hungary under the Triple Alliance, so they were brought in (Italy switched sides in 1915). The Balkans, where Serbia lies, was declared a protectorate of the Russians, so they declared war on Austria-Hungary. France and Great Britain had an alliance (Triple Entente) with Russia, and they entered the war. The US entered the war after unrestricted submarine warfare on the part of the Germans threatened their merchant marine.

Must you people always be dense!!! well whatever the spelling and punction may be incorrect but this the answer: Hitler was not the cause of world war one. He was how ever the reason for world war 2. WW1 was caused by� a lot of things 1. The assassination of the Austria-Hungary prince was the spark but there was a whole big deal to it. 2. France wanted revenge, because Germany and France had a war in which France lost. France took this and teamed up with Britain. 3. Germany wanted to grow and expand it self like Britain. 4. the top countries were afraid that if Germany expanded then it would be a threat to The top countries� Etc� jeez I could go for ever� and When Hitler was in power any one who was gay was drenched in water and left outside in the cold for an hour� this killed the gays. And if Hitler�s group did that then why would Hitler be gay??? Next time check the facts!!! Got told by a 14 year old sad I tell you!!!

Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the Austria-Hungarian throne, was killed by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian Nationalist. Princip killed the Archduke as a way to push Austria-Hungary out of Serbia, which Austria-Hungary had recently occupied. Princip was a member of the Black Hand, a Serbian terrorist organization. Though Princip was not the first assasin to attack the Archduke that day, he was the only one that even wounded him. The Archduke's luck ran out and he was shot at close range. The weapons used by the assasins were traced back to the Serbian government, and Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Serbia was allied with France, and France with Britain and Russia. Austria-Hungary was allied with Germany and the Ottoman Empire (mainly present-day Turkey and Greece. The allies on both sides declared all-out war on each other, and the First World War began. ��Hope this helps!!

Some people say that it was too much effort not to go to war. Most of the causes were because of a German leader called Kaiser William II. He was annoyed at how large Britain�s empire had become and he felt that it was unfair. He hated that Britain had a larger navy even though Germany never really needed one anyway. He had become power hungry, was picking on smaller countries like Belgium and was more or less trying to take over the whole of Europe. With all this quarrelling it would only take a minor event to set the war off. An event such as the assassination of the Archduke of Austria-Hungary. It took place when he and his wife were on their way to Sarajevo in Bosnia to make their inspection on army manoeuvres. Whilst they were travelling in the city their car was bombed. They both made it out alive but were later spotted in a danger zone and his wife was killed by a man called Gaurilo Princip. The Archduke then called off all the plans but was later assassinated himself by Princip. All this was believed to be the work of a Russian group called the �Black hand�. With Austria and Bosnia being allies of Germany; and Russia being allies with Britain and France they all came to each other�s aid and started World War 1.

its a long story, well... On June 28 1914, Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria-Hungry was assassinated. He was murdered at Sarajevo, the capital of the Austrian province of Bosnia. The assassin was a Serbian terrorist. For many years, Serbia and Austria �Hungry had been rivals because Serbian patriots wanted to unite all Serbs into a single state including ones of Austria-Hungry. Austria-Hungry were very opposed to all this and needed an excuse to deal with that problem. When Archduke Francis Ferdinand had been assassinated, Austria-Hungry took that opportunity to start a war with them to settle things for good. They gave Serbia 48 hours to respond to an ultimatum. Serbia suggested running the ultimatum by some of the other European powers but Austria-Hungry refused to. On July 28, Austria Hungry declared war on Serbia.

World War 1 was started in Austria when some Serbian assasin shot an Austrian prince. Then they started fighting. Things moved quickly thereafter. Austria-Hungary, unsatisfied with Serbia's response to her ultimatum declared war on Serbia on 28 July 1914. Russia, bound by treaty to Serbia, mobilized its vast army. Germany, allied to Austria-Hungary by treaty, viewed the Russian mobilization as an act of war against Austria-Hungary, and declared war on Russia on 1 August. France, bound by treaty to Russia, responded by announcing war against Germany and Austria-Hungary on 3 August. Germany promptly responded on 4 August by invading neutral Belgium to open a quick path to Paris. Britain, allied to Belgium declared war against Germany on 4 August. In just a little over a month all of Europe was at war. Then, when Russia had almost given up, America came and ended it. Because Germany was stealing from boats that were headed for France? I think thats how it goes.

There were four major causes of World War 1: 1) The rise of nationalism, which was the belief that loyalty to a nation, and its political, and economic goals comes before any other public loyalty (2) Nationalism encouraged public support for military build-ups and for a country�s use of force to achieve its goals. (3) During the late 1800�s and early 1900�s, European nations competed to have colonies in Africa and Asia. Competition for colonies strained relations among European countries. Which led to several clashes between certain European countries. (4) The Triple Alliance also known as the Three Emperors� League was formed in 1881. Germany�s prime minister, Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck, formed a series of alliances to strengthen his country�s security by making Germany an ally of Austria-Hungary and of Italy. All of these events led up to the assassination of Archduke Frances Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, which triggered World War I.

some duke from britain got assasinated in the dardinelles. tentions were rising between russia and germany. russia and germany split up. Britain and Russia joined to together as britian saw germany as a threat to their massive naval fleat as Germany was builing a navy. Germany feared an attack from Russia. Britain realised they could perform a pincer attack on Germany if France allied. They put differences aside and allied together. britian and its colonies came to together. Britiain helped russia by delivering supplies to the black sea. Britiain and her colonies along with france fought on the western front with russia on the eastern front. when russia gained control of berlin the germans conseeded defeat. Germany was fighting alongside hungary and turkey. Italy was cought in the middle and had to decide on what side she was going to take. unfortunately Italy chose the wrong side. they chose to allies to germany. USA also helped the allies AND DID NOT START THE WAR IDIOT! besides tentions Hittler was now runing germany, and yes he did slaughter thousands upon thousands of Jews, and this did contribute to the war. it was a horrible war where manylives were lost. on both sides. it was to end all wars. (obviously that didnt work out) lol. well i hoipe that helps, i am a bit rusty seeing as i am going off memory.!

The main reason WW1 started was the fact that Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the Hapsburg throne, was assassinated by a 19 year old student named, Gavrilo Princip. The whole country of Europe just sat back and waited for Austria-Hungary to retaliate to the assassination. Austria-Hungary did, they declared war on Serbia on July 28, 1914. Russia became allies with Serbia. Germany then declared war on Russia on August 1, 1914; and on France on August 3, 1914. The French and British responded by declaring war on Germany, on August 3 and 4, 1914. And no sooner later, Austria-Hungary declared, on August 6, 1914, war on Russia. This was the begin of World War 1.

I think WW1 was started with the assassination of a royal family. He was related to franz josef the king of a famous city in Austria I think. By assassinating the only heir of the royal line that lasted for some centuries it was inevitable that war would be declared
