How can I get my 4 month old to like wearing
his collar? I put it on him whenever he is out of his playpen, but lately he has been strongly protesting whenever I remove it. It is the plastic clip kind, not a buckle.

Well my little Chalupa likes to wear her harness at all times. It fits nicely and I guess she feels naked without it. Whenever I have to wash her harness  or adjust it to her still growing little body it becomes obvious she wants me to put her harness back on. Lately she has been chewing on her collar, I guess she is still teething.  She is only one years old.

Both my girls love their collars, they don't like being without them.  I guess they get used to the jingle of their tags.

Make sure the collar is the right size, you should be able to put at least one finger comfortably between the neck and the collar.  Less than that is too tight, more than that and it can slip off.  My Gremlin does just fine, my Nixie is a little Houdini so when we go for walks she has a harness too.

I'm not quite clear whether he loves or hates his collar.  If he hates it, put the collar on and praise him for being good.  When he starts to fidget, let him and as soon as he calms down praise him and then if you want, take it off.  Increase the time he spends in the collar, making sure that he gets lots of loving when it's on, not much when it's not.  If he loves it, be glad and minimize the time he's out of it.  Take it off for bathing and to adjust it for size as he grows, but make sure you don't take it out of his sight, and put it back on ASAP.

I had great difficulty getting my baby chi to wear his colar. It really bothered him and he was always trying to bite & itch it off. Now that he knows that we go for walks or a car ride when we put on his leach, he has put two and two together. He now sits patiently while we put it on. Your pup will get used to it. I got my chi 3 and a half weekd ago and only this week he has let us put it on...
