I have a mix breed lab/rottie.  She continually scratches and licks and has made sores on her legs.  I see small bumps under her skin, and have tried everything, including shots at the vet.  He doesn't seem to have an answer, or what else I can do.  I have given her Bendryl, Avenno baths, changed her food to an allergy food, etc etc.  Has anyone ever had this problem and if so, what did you do to help ...I feel so sorry for her!  Thanks!

Hi I have a lab/rottie too, she is the best dog ever - she had skin problems too.  I immediately suspected food allergy as I have them too, I put her on IVD allergenic dog food (I get it at the vet) and I don't feed her people food (only once in a while) she can't eat chicken, regular meat, corn, soy, etc. (weird) but she eats either the IVD rabbit and potato or venison and potato and she is doing great, all the licking and scratching and sores are gone.  Try the IVD food, give it a couple weeks, it should help.  Be strict and don't let her eat people food, it will be worth it and your dog will be much happier.  GOod luck hope this helps!  -Ana

check to see if your dog has any pain, some dogs tend to lick and scratch themselves, to not feel the pain that they have, they try to get themselves distracted from the pain, one of my dogs had an allergy reaction to her coller, and she would lick her paws and scratch her ears, to get distracted from the pain the was on her neck, when i did i full check up i took the coller off and notice that her fur was comming off, and it looked swollen, so i treated it, and now she has stopped licking her paws and scratching at her ears, you or your vet, should do a full body check, and see if she has pain if u add some presser to her joints or else where, try stop giving her certain foods that she has now, if none of those work, try going to a dog behaviorist, and they can do some analyzing to see how her mood, and make sure that nothing is bothering her to cause her to do those behaviours, hope you find out what it is,

Gunner

i have a labrottie mix, he also has skin problems, I usually give him half a benadryl or make sure he has all his flea medications. This really helped out alot because his skin was really peeling and he would develop bump.
