Had the same problem? yeah! HAD!
here's how to fix it:
you go right now to http://www.microsoft.com then to the download section and install the lastest DIRECT X Driver (at this time it's 9.0) and voila, directsound can be generated!

My advice is to get a large group together and boycott AOL.  Let's be real here people, nothing but problems with AOL all the time.  I have been to Customer Service on AOL hundreds of times, each time I was either lied to, or the person had an attiude, let alone no one on there is from AMERICA anyway..defeats the purpose of "AMERICA" Online right?  Forget hundreds of time spend with them, not one answered my question and I figured out how to fix everything on my own.

Correct " Error Creating Direct Sound Buffer 80070057" by hitting the AOL "Keyword" at the very top of The AOL Page. Once Open...Type In RADIODIL...and allow automatic download and fix of corrective material. Instant Fix.

Your answers "Type in Keyword Radiodil" did absolutely nothing for me or any of the "experts" I called in to help.  After 2 months of silence I still have NO RADIO AOL.
Thanks for nothing.

First, it does no good to yell (all CAPS is Yelling) at the people who have offered possible solutions.

Second, If every computer out there had absolutely all the same software and same configuration then answer could be absolute but they do not.  So often when working on problems the answers are trial and error.

When you type in "radiodil" in the goto keyword.  What happens?  What messages do you get?

Have you tried installing DirectX 9.0?

Have you tried to install Real as note above.

fyi, radiodil does work. i do tech support for aol and i have access to any ver. of aol. and no matter what ver you use, that kw will work. if it doesnt, you arent putting it in correctly. once you do the kw correctly, it will try to download a file for the radio, if the active x controls/direct x controls are updated and working correctly, it will download. if not it will give you an error msg. which then will basically mean you need to update your active x/direct x software

The answer of getting radio@Netscape is good, but the radio is only good for an hour or so. Then they tell you to go to radio AOL if you are an AOL customer. A lot of good that does. Don't AOL personell read tese complaints?

Gentlemen--just had this one happen to me when I reinstalled my Windows 98 and the answer for me was to reinstall the drivers on my sound card.  I literally had to get out my Dell Dimension disk with the drivers on it (which came with the computer) and re-install the drivers.

So I would recommend trying that.  I tried everything on this list--none of it worked--but as soon as I re-installed my Creative Soundblaster drivers, my AOL Radio worked immediately.

a simmilar error brought me here, but it was a directx backbuffer. In short-check your sound output plugins for your player, uncheck resampling or lower target resampling rate, or try a different plugin

AOL is there to frustrate us. I too lost AOL radio - the ONLY thing worthwhile on AOL. Spent two hours this AM with them. They are ignorant  or just not trained well. At this point I am reluctant to follow their advice knowing that they don't have a clue, re: 80070057 error. I do not wish to go up(?) to 9.0 from 8.0+ and couldn't even if I wanted to. It kind of helps to know that others are in same boat.

Its not a problem with AOL its a problem with your computer drivers, so you have no case against them and boycotting them wouldnt solve anything.

Update your DirectX and it should fix the problem.
