I have a question on formatting and was hoping you could help me.  I want Fortran to print me a given matrix on the free screen

The following code prints out the matrix (6x6) row by row:

DO I=1,6,1
WRITE (*,*) (MAT(I,J),J=1,6,1)
END DO

The above code prints out the matrix elements row by row.  Each element is 8 characters wide.  I don't want it that wide and I only want 5 characters wide.  To achieve the 5 character wide length, I tried to use the format descripter : F5.2 using this modification:

DO I=1,6,1
WRITE (*,100) (MAT(I,J),J=1,6,1)
100 FORMAT (F5.2)
END DO

This modification, although it achieves the 5 character wide length, it ruins the row by row print format and displays the entire matrix in one long column.  Can you tell me how to format the elements in the matrix yet it still allows me to preserve the traditional row by row presentation of a matrix?

Thanks.
