Saint Bernard's tails

I previously had a female Saint Bernard whose tail was up. I now own a male Saint Bernard puppy and the tail is always down. Should a Saint Bernard's tail be up or down?

If I understand her question right it sounds like her female had a flag tail which is undesired among the show breed.  The male sounds as though his tail is one that is sought out.

well, the curling of the tail is o.k as long as it doesnt touch the back of her body. The curled tail is not desired
