A pit bull is a pit bull, blue nose is just a color.

It is NOT safe to EVER breed your dog if it has not been genetically tested for disease, if it does not have a sound stable temperament, and if you do not have CONFIRMED (i.e. pre paid) homes for EVERY puppy that is produced.

You should also not breed your dog if you can't be responsible for every puppy you create. Dogs that you are responsible for creating should NEVER end up at the pound for any reason.

it is usually best to wait till the dog is at least 2 yrs old to start breeding and skip every other heat. on another note Michelle should really mind her own business by the sounds of it she must have caught a disease doin some breeding to be that angry at someone she hasn't met :)

As a Humane Society employee, I find this question appalling.  Michelle is right - guess what, 5 million pups are born in the US each year, and 5 million end up in SPCAs and shelters each year.  Of those 5 million, only one million find homes.  There are enough dogs in the world, without irresponsible breeders adding to the problem.  So to answer your question, if your dog is not a registered, papered pure bred, with a proven health and temperament background, the it is NEVER safe to breed it.  Smarten up.

most dogs are easy to breed. just make sure the parents are "good" dogs. if the parents are unknown then it is best to find a trustworthy dog. the puppies actions are usually based on the owner and parents. dogs are easy to breed just make sure you can take care of them or are able to sell them.

Not all shelters kill the animals that stay for a while. Some hold the animals there until they find a good home, like the shelter I work at. But, I had a question about breeding dogs in general, not just pit bulls...Is it safe to breed a mother and father and then neutered/spayed them after the mother has puppies and still keep breeding them and after they have puppies, neuter and spayed them? I've seen the puppy mill websites and it's so sad...Even the gas chambers, how could you do that to a dog? We should put the shelter owners in a gas chamber see how they like it. They could just send the dog to another shelter that is low on dogs and need some to put up for adoption. But, I just need an answer to my question because I've been doing web searches and haven't come up with anything yet...

What do you mean you think we should start fighting pitbull owners against each other.
Not all pitbull owners fight their dogs, its only a small percentage. About putting dogfights on line is bad publicity for the dogs, but I suppose people will either see it as cruel and deside they dont want there dog any harm. The reason dogfighters have a bad name is because The wanna-be dogfighters hear the false made up way to fight and train pitbulls from the news and media. A true dogman treats his dog after the match and once it prooves its game he uses it for breeding.

Fight pit bull owners against each other? Ya know, not all pit bull OWNERS are pit bull FIGHTERS! There are people out there who own pit bulls that treat them very well and give them great love and i happen to be one of those people so before you start fighting owners against each other, you should make sure theyre abusing their pit first because not all of us deserve it........contrary to what you may believe!

All u ppl talking bout dogfighting need to die. Listen to michelle. I've been breeding for 16 years. You MUST keep up with them no matter what. Take care of them so they don't catch distemper. Watching a litter of puppies die and knowing it's beause you were lazy and inconsiderate isn't a dandy feeling!!!!

Sad to say but Sasha is right there are millions of unwanted dogs. Alley cat, maybe you should open up a shelter so that there will be another place where unwanted dogs and/or cats can take refuge. you can even call up the shelters that euthanize the unwanted animals to save their lives. As for me,i'mmaking sure my new pit and the stray cats I catch are fixed. that is only my small part to help with the issue. Let us know when you open up your shelter so that I can send you the animals i find on the street. At least they will have a place to go where they won't be put down. Even if they have a disease.

pit bulls are traditionally a performance breed that means they were originally bred based on how well they performed a certain task, not what they looked like, color was the least important thing oldtime breeders or pit bulls considered. pit bulls remain largley a performance/working dog, and so the old way of doing things as far as looks are concerned largly still holds fast.true, many pit bulls today are also bred with showing in mind, however color is of almost zero importance even in that venue. no one who really knows pit bull is not all that impressed by color.  stich is a jerk and should not be able to even say the word pit bull

For Males you should wait till 2 years old or you could effect their sperm for the worse if you let him any sooner. Females you should wait till their 2nd time going into heat and then every other heat after that . With most females you should only breed 2 , possibly 3 times .

Bringing in a dog into the world is like bringing in a child into the world. If you are going to breed the blunose pit bull with another of same kind or even different kind you have to know that you will have a big responsibility in your hands. It would be sad if you leave a dog out on the street running around not knowing where it went. I mean think about it. Would you leave your child out on the street?

She is amazingly playful and energetic, extremely disciplined and well behaved, not to mention very loyal, smart, and great with my 5 year old. We're doing our best to let people know that these dogs are not the monsters portrayed by the media. People need to understand what these dogs are truly all about, which is the perfect all-around dog.

I think that if you haven't actually raised pits before, you should keep your opinions to yourself. I use to be one of those people who was scared of pit bulls because of all of the rumors. Now that I my husband (who raised pits his whole life) and I have 2 "blue nosed pits" I know that I was wrong. It is all in the way you raise a dog...not in what breed it is. There are several dogs "prone to be aggressive" such as poodles, chows, and even the "family dog" --the lab (of which I've owned 2 in the past). My pits are very loving and not aggressive...my springer spaniel mix is more aggressive (toward other animals only) than my pits are. Judging animals based on their breed is like being racist and judging people on their origin. Research your facts before you open your mouth and make yourself a fool.

The point of these things are to answer the question asked. The first question was not should a breed my Pit Bull. (or any dog) it was how many time is it safe. The answer is wait till the second heat which should be right around two years. then you should skip every other heat. I would not breed any of my female more than 5 time, then i would have them spayed and retired as a family pet. Should you breed your dog? a different question for a differnet board...

Its not the breed of dog you should worry about its the breeder. If the breeder is unstable to take care of any kind of Pitt let alone any dog than there is a worry. A person should be able to breed a hundred bluenose, rednose, multicolored, it don't matter, as long as their fit to fully take care of their responsibility in raising them.

I agree with much of what Michelle has to say about disease testing. Its often heartbreaking to get a puppy and fall in love with it. Only to find out it has a disease. Testing is the only way to guarantee a good litter of pups.

Second, I feel that pitbull owners should begin to get licensed. I say this only because to many idiots are owning and tarnishing this great breeds reputation. This dog is more intelligent, compassionate, forgiving, sensitive, and delightful than anyone who has owned one can understand.

I have a 110lbs King Blue Nose Pitbull and his 6 week old son. I see that much of the traits past down are more than just physical. Because I took into account the type of friendly disposition my big boy Simba has and matched him with a healthy blue nose female who is just and friendly, it resulted in a litter of well tempered and healthy pups all except for one who didn't make it. But its apparent that when you plan and take every trait of your dog into account, you'll have great pups produced.

It is also wise to even screen your clientele prior to selling your pups to them. Granted my pups sale for $800-$1,500. But if a guy plans on putting that dog in a fight, then hell no I'm not selling him a pup. In fact I'm prone to get lock jaw on him for such intentions with a beautiful creature such as my King Blue's. I would rather inconvenience my own living situation by building a kennel in my house if need be cause all of my dogs are in door. Screening those you sale your dog to by asking questions about his plans, living situation, and familiarity with the breed. Best for all parties. I do this for all my pups and I have nothing but positive feedback from my clients. And all my pups ironically end up as house dogs due to their massive size, compassion, intelligence, and obedience.

As far as safety for breeding, every other breeding is the healthiest for the female. It allows her body to recover from the stress induced for caring for and laboring for the pups. It also allows her body to return a horomonely balanced state. Its never safe for a dog to have more than 1 litter every 1 1/2 or so. but I only speak from experience and what I'm told by my vet. Go Blue Noses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

None of you guys answered her question. just talked a bunch of B.S. Amy your answer is--a female should not have more then 3 litters even know she might be able to produce more. Its un healthy for your blue pitbull to have more then that. maybe the reason for saying blue pitbull is some dogs like english bulldogs should only be bred once.

i love Pitbulls, but i wont breed my dog if i know that he is going to be contamined.. i WONT breed him ever!!!. or even if i know that the female its not pure or comes from a not good line. i wont do it...

The dog should be at least 2 years old for health safety. It is a good idea to breed the dog every other heat and not every time she is in heat. It will give her time to recover. I regards to other replies that saying you shouldn't breed your dog at all. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!! It is up to the owner to breed or not. In my opinion, it is cruel to fix your dog!!! I would like to see any human that would want to be fixed especially male. When you fix your dog or any other animal you destroy hormonal level and your friend starts to gain weight, looses interest to life literally, becomes a couch potato!!! It is very cruel. You have to be responsible for your 4 legged friend not try to fix it.

I think you should know both lines first (good health & temperment background)for the dam & sire, make sure the dogs are papered (prue-bred registered) with 1 of the 3 creditable kennel clubs(AKC,UKC,& ADBA. Made sure you can sell each dog to a good home. And being willing to take on the pups if you can't sell them. It's a big job are you sure your ready.
