OMG .. I'm sorry but i cant believe you are saying that you can get your piercing done with a gun as well as a needle. many states are outlawing it. guns cant be sterilized, they are plastic and will melt, they use the same one on everyone [ GROSS I KNOW ] also, the gun slams a blunt post into your [nose ear whatever] and shatters the cartilage like a broken bone, a needle simple slided through making room for the earing .. the people who use guns have one week of training THEY ARE PUTTING HOLES IN YOUR BODY, the people who use needles have 2-3 years of training. another thing is, with the gun the piercer has to guess where they are piercing, they cant see it because the gun is big, with a needle you have a direct shot. it so 100% safer to get it done with a needle

Hi everybody. I am fifteen years old. My mom said i could get my nose peirced for my birthday (so long as it was the side becuase the middle looks like a bull from the rodeo)and i already found a place to get it done. My mom had to go to the dermatologist's office to get a tumour removed from her face and i found out that they do peircings and airbrush tanning there as well. Would it be wisest to go to the doctor to do it or what? I already found out that they use a steel gun (steel so it can be sterilized) and its specific so that it can fit your nose (not as big as an ear gun.) BTW its not a blunt post you moron, have you never seen a peircing stud? The ones tehy have where im going are almost like earrings except that they have a tiny triangle on the bottom instead of a nut with a very sharp point. One of my friendfs from the dancre classes i take got her nose epirced twice. one with a needle (which left a scar and closed up too quickly) and once with a gun which work3d better.

I have never had anything peirced permanently, except my ears. I have peirced my navel and nipple on my own, but only to play around. I think you need to look farther than just a piercing with a gun versus with a needle. The thing that I would want to know, is the peircers experience or how long has he been doing it and the reputation of the place you are getting it done. I would reccomend getting it professionally done, you have very little risk of it getting infected (unless you don't take care of it afterwards like you're supposed to). Spend that $40 or however much it is to get it done right and from somebody who knows what they are doing. You can also check out the Better Business Bureau and I would definitely check out the Department of Health before going somewhere unless you know someone, or something that would make you feel comfortable about going. I just know that the places I went to get my tattoos...is the place where the department of health kinda compares the other tattoo parlor's in town. But I also have a really good friend who's brother is the one who owns the shop and he has been tattooing for many many many years. The same type of criteria goes for anything that goes into your flesh, because infection is not an option.

Hey, I got my nose pierced just yesterday (August 14th, 2004). I got it done at a parlor called lucky 13 tattoo. They offer to pierce it with a gun or needle.. but i didnt want to have to get a hoop so i got it done with a gun. It was completly PAINLESS! If you have gotten your ears pierced (lobes) then you know the exact feeling. My eyes watered and that was it! My nose has not been red yet, even when i got it pierced. The bump that everyone talks about from a gun, is not true. My piercer said the bump occurs from the piercee's skin. Its when your skin reacts to the metal. I think everyone should get their nose pierced with a gun. It is VERY QUICK, and completely PAINLESS!

I had my nose pierced 4 days ago. It didn't hurt, it was just a little tender at first (still is now if I touch it). I had it done with a needle - I was a little bit afraid of the needle, but I heard that it was the best way. I had my lip pierced a few months ago - I had to remove it because it was hitting my tooth and making it hurt - but I would say that the nose hurt more than my lip. It's healing just fine, I think. There's no redness, no swelling. How long should I leave it until I can change the stud? The piercer (who had his lip pierced 3 times, and the back of his neck pierced 4 times) told me to clean it every day for 2 weeks, so does that mean I should leave it in for 2 weeks, then change it?

I have my tounge, belly button and ears peirced 19 times. I had my nose and my eye brow done. I hated my nose!! It was the nastiest one to keep clean!! I didn't think it hurt untill I got to the inner layer of skin before it came threw the other side. No a gun will not split the cartlage in your ear or your nose. cartlage is to flexible to split. Just remember to keep it really clean and you all should be ok. The pain isn't THAT bad but I'm not gonna lie every pericing hurts a little. no matter what you do for some reason pushing a peice of mettal threw you kinda hurts. Just remember to take a deep breath close your eyes and let your adrenalin take over. In a while you wont remember what it felt like.

i spent this summer piercing ears, and i never felt more guilty in my life. i have eight piercings in my ears, including my cartilidge, all of which were done with a gun. the gun caused many complications in my cartilidge, and it was badly infected for months. it took about two years to fully heal, and i have spoken with many people who have had the same problems with cartilidge piercings. i got mine done mere months before the town banned the use of piercing guns on cartilidge. the people at claire'sare trained, that's true. but my training consisted of being thrown into it by a coworker who needed a second person to do both ears of a 4-year-old. it's not a good situation. it's not a perfect science. and NEVER, NEVER trust anyone that is willing to pierce your nose with a gun. and yes, compared to a needle, the point on that starter earring is pretty damn blunt. for the ear piercings... guns should not be used on ANY part of the body, including ears. about two months ago i got my nose pierced at a reputable piercing studio with a needle. i can honestly say that my eyes didn't water, the piercing didn't bleed, and it has caused me less grief than my ear piercings did. as for the fifteen-year-olds posting on here, i urge you to think twice before getting anything but your ears pierced. i can't tell you how many girls your age have come into my store and asking me what they did wrong with any of their piercings... usually because they haven't taken the proper care of it. i work at claire's i use the gun and i would not wish this on anyone. spend the extra money, and get it done right. you'll thank yourself later.

To all of you who are afraid of the pain, it's not that bad. Definately don't ever do a gun. Find a very good piercer and have them do the needle. I had my nose pierced a couple of months ago. I walked into the place and was out the door in ten minutes flat. No joke. My eyes barely watered and my nose didn't bleed. The pain was a small pinch and then it was over. I had cartlidge in my ear done that hurt worse! In two weeks time I was able to change the stud. I reccommend it to anybody. The pain is not bad and it should heal quickly. It hurts less than stubbing your toes!

hi, am 13 and i got my nose done wen i was 10 it never hurt its just a shock but if u keep touchin it like my sis did it could easily fall out! when i got mine done i was really excited, i got mine done with a gun, so did my sis, my sis also is 10 she thought it never hurt. it will heal better with a screw or wot eva u call it, with a screw it is easier 2 clean then the with the ring, it also takes less for it 2 heal however if u keep touchin it and turning it, it will take even more 2 heal. anyway if u have any questions then write were it says "your name or nickname" write question 4 candy, i recomend u gettin ur nose done as it looks good and dont hurt. oh and dont get it done in the middle like a bull coz if u have a fight and sum one pulls it out then it WILL sting and u will have a whole there trust me it happend 2 my m8!!!

I got my nose pierced about a year ago, and it's healing great. . . I'm the biggest wimp, so afraid of needles and pain, especially when he brought out the needle to pierce my nose. BUT!! It was nothing, it just slid right in, and it wasn't really painful, just more of an odd feeling. My eyes watered, and then it was over. It was no biggie at all. I definitley recommend a needle, the gun is entirely too traumatic for the sensitive area of the nose. Also defnitley go to a professional, some people can pierce themselves or have their friends do it, but for the majority that is a very very bad idea. And as for, how do you convince your parents? Just wait until your 18. . until then, you may change your mind anyway.

You can't rely on anecdotal evidence (ie- "your friend", "someone you know/saw") to determine whether or not to get pierced with a gun or a needle. Maybe your "friend" cleaned her gun-piercing really well and that's why it worked out ok, or maybe she was just lucky, but the facts are that you shouldn't use a gun to pierce ANYTHING! It is not hygienic, precise, or professional. You could also use a rusty nail to pierce your nose, but does that mean you should do it? Only a professional who has been trained should perform your piercing with gloves and a new hollow needle. He/she should also provide you with cleaning tips/aftercare. Don't settle for less- it's your face- and serious infections and/or nerve damage can occur. As far as pain goes- the gun is a bit less painful, but neither are excruciating. Because it's over so quickly, you only feel pain very briefly and if you can't handle the pain of the initial piercing you shouldn't get it done- cleaning and changing your piercing can be much more painful.

hey, i have so many piecings, im almost like a pincushion. i have 7 piercings in my ears, one in my no, nd my belly button done! i had my first ones done wen i was 18 months old. my mum is cool wiv the whole thing, but i would seriously advise going to a professional! my friend did her own peircing, and it went all manky. plz, 4 ur own sake, dnt do it! if ur in england, thn the nose wil only cost ya a few quid! dnt put urselves through unecessary pain! it scares me 2 think u guys wud do a stupid thing as peirce urselves!!! u dont no wot damage u r doin 2 urselves, cos ther r nerves tht u cud hit and paralyse urself, which no1 wants!!! and ths is comin frm me wiv loads of them!!!lol. 4 those who want 2 no, peircings dnt hurt if u get em dun professionally! guns only shatter if thy r not used properly! k, so take care, GO 2 A PROFESSIONAL, thy rn'txpensive, nd thy hav bin trained 2 do it!

Hey. I'm thinking about getting my nose pierced for my 18th birthday. But I'm a little unsure. I was wondering a few things (actually, a lot): 1. Does it hurt bad? For how long? 2. What kind of metal (for he needle) is most sterile? 3. Stud (which i prefer) or is a ring better in the beginning? 4. How's sleeping at first? Is it all red and nasty for while? 5. Does cleaning it hurt? 6. Does it change the way people look at you/ treat you. I like the indie, hipster crowd, but I also want to be okay with the mainstream people, and not have teachers or w/e look at my differently (b/c a big part of me is being the "cute little one" 7. Can you ever take it out? Big hole left when you do? If decided in a few years I don;t want it, will there be a scar? Nows the time to do it, right? Like, i want it now and i won't in a few years, so screw my parents for getting mad at me or w/e! (haha) Thanks so much!!! Ahhhhh xoxo Abby

I had my nose pierced with a gun about 2 years ago and recently took it out because it never healed properly. In the beginning it looked like it was doing well, however, i noticed after 6 months, every time i took it out to change the stud, it would close up and i would have to force it back in (very painful). Also it formed a small bump around the hole which was very ugly and very noticeable when i wasn't wearing stud. Eventually i got frustrated and took it out all together, assuming it would finally heal and i could be done with the whole situation. I was wrong! Its been about 3 months now that i have had it taken out for and now i have a dark discolored bump on my nose and have to go see a dermotologist to get rid of it. Even though it was much more painless to get it done with a gun ( and cheaper) i really regret it. I strongly suggest getting it done with a needle. You will be much more pleased with the results.

i got my nose pierced with a gun 2 days ago. before i had it done i was told that guns are illegal and shouldnt be used. i was going to get it done with a needle because i'dheard with a gun you could have your nose broken or even loose part of your nose! when i got too the piercing shop or woteva i found out that it was �6.50 to get it done with a gun and �21.50 to get it done with a needle and as my m8 was paying for it for my birthday i didnt want her too spend that much on me and also spend �35.00 on my twin sister (she had her belly-button done) so i decided to have the gun. When i was sitting in the room i was soooo nervous, i was digging my nails into my m8 hand and praying that it didnt hurt, the woman who did it was really nice and told me she would be as gentle as possible. First she put this plastic thing inside my nose and then put the other part of the gun on the other side of my nose, at this point i was nearly weeing myself! then she pressed the gun down and i heard a loud bang, i slowly opend my eyes and they were full of tears, the woman showed me my piercing in the mirror, it looked all red and swollen, the woman told me that this was perfectly normal and should go down soon, she gave me a piece of paper on how to look after my piercing and said if i had any problems, i should just go back to her. two days on my piercing is fine, i havent had any problems and hope it stays that way. if anyone is wanting to get their nose pierced i dont see what is wrong with having a gun but i spose if you want too be really careful, have the needle. that is if you can afford it!

Hey ... i got my nose pierced 2 days ago, and yeah it hurt when i got it done, and it felt like i got punched in the face afterwards, but i would never recommend getting it done with a gun ... it just seems like there are so many reasons to not use a gun, so i went with a needle .... everyone that i know that has gotten it done used a needle and it healed fast, and turned out really good as for telling you mom ..... my mom wasnt to impressed to say the least, but she seems fine about it now ... if you have a really good relationship with your mom ... i suggest telling her about it first, and talking it over with her ... Hey y'allI got my nose done on both sides, it hurt like anything but I done it. At first its just like a little pinch, then its sore for a few weeks, but its not half as bad as gettin the top of your ear done --In the cartilage-- I have my ears done three times on both sides, so I know what I'm talkin about when I say, There isn't much to gettin your nose done. Clean it regularly with peroxide, not alcohol, and you'll be fine. It doesn't always leave a scar, but you may get one! I got mine ALL done with a gun, its A LOT better! It faster and hurts less, its still not outlawed in a lot of places, so go for it! Bumps are VERY normal, I had them on both sides... They eventually go away! Hey i got my nose pierced and it hurt like hell!! It hurt ten times worse then my belly-botton!!! And the second day i got it i was so stuoid and was like i want to see the hole and the ring so i took it out and then i couldn't put it back in and i started to cry because it was a christmas present and it hurt so bad and i felt so stupid!! I couldn't find a way to put it in because the ring is like a little hook. It was really late and the tatoo place far. so i called and they told me to put a regular ring in so i did and the next day i went back and the repierced it. I felt so stupid!!!! But now its healed and its cute!!! And people it doesn't matter what side you get it on i got it on my right and it looks totally cute

Hello everyone: Adressing questions... Okay, As to the gun/needle debate, I honestly prefer needles. I've been pierced with both and I found the gun to be much more painful, and it healed much slower. As to the pain of nose peircing? Its minimal. I'd say equal to the pain of ears, but less painful than bellybuttons. The big deal with a peircing on your face isn't really that it will hurt, but I think its more stressful when you can see it. And to the person who fainted? No worries!!! I've fainted after each of my 8 peircings. Just tell them beforehand that you might, and bring a soda or something to raise your bloodsugar after you wake up! So thats about all I've got everyone. I'd really advise paying the extra 20 or 30 bucks and having a professional peirce me. I don't know about ya'll but stabbing myself doesn't seem very good... at all! I got my nose pierced about 3 months ago and the proffesionist that did used a tweezer like tool (ring closure tool) to do it. I DIDN'T FEEL ANYTHING... IT DIDN'T HURT AT ALL BUT I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON HOW STRONG U ARE . My eyes just got a lil wattery but that was it not even a tear went down my chin.FOR ALL THE GURLS THAT WANNA GET THEIR NOSE PIERCED GO AHEAD, IT DOESN'T HURT... WHAT I RECOMMEND IS THAT YOU GET IT DONE WITH A RING CLOSURE TOOL. I don't wanna scare anyone but I hear that it hurts to get it done with a gun. Believe me there was this gurl at the mall getting it done with a gun.........oUch she was crying like a little gurl.lol P.S I'm 15 and in order to get my nose pierced done i had to take my mom with me.

I can't believe 15 year old girls want to get their noses pierced and some of their parents are allowing it! I'm almost 22 years old and I can't believe today's youth! Most of you young children shouldn't be going online for "helpful" advice about getting pierced! You should go to a reputable person...do you even know if the people on this website know what they are talking about? My advice for anyone who wants a piercing and is of legal age, ask "real-life" friends for their advice and go to several tattoo and piercing parlors and get a feel for the right atmosphere and right piercer. No matter what, it's going to hurt. You are having a needle shoved through the cartilage in your nose...hardly painless. I would know...I've got some tattoos and piercings. Take care and good luck!

DO NOT use a gun. it's blunt force smashing your ear. there's "microspray" -- microscopic bits of tissue and blood and such -- that will fly onto the gun. guns are not cleanable. they are not exact. a needle may sound 'scary.' you're getting a body piercing. you're putting a piece of metal through your skin. so, to be blunt, get over it. get it done right. and that is not possible with a gun. they prolong healing, they are dirty, and they are not exact. any good piercist will not use a gun, it's that simple. i wouldn't want to do this one myself because the nose and the brain share the same blood supply. that puts you at risk for brain damage. you're increasing the risk of that happening greatly when you do it yourself -- spare your brain and spend $40! next, if it gets infected or otherwise goes 'wrong,' get it checked out. if you just take it out, you can trap the infection under the skin where it's much tougher to get at. the infection will be tough to clear up, and it might hurt your brain.

getting your ears pierced with a gun isn't bad.. i got mine done and the lady did it side ways.. so didn't work out so well then i got one underneath that one after it was healed and it went horribly wrong.. the backing flew off my first one and the post of that one got stuck in my new piercing backing.. it was painful.. they had to rip out my healed earring.. so obviously it got all infected and i had to take it out.. but i recently got it pierced again up top and i cleaned it everyday and now its all healed and I'vechanged it already.. i got it done like 3 months ago.. so i recommend getting a gun because it hurts less and it's not as bad as what some people say.. my friend got it with a needle it was always red.. even tho it was healed it was red and looked sick.

I got my nose done....um about 6 months ago. It healed really quick(2 months total)...To answer everyone's "Question"...about it hurting...It feels like a needle going through your nose...lol...no but really thats what it feels like. YOUR EYES WILL WATER...(ladies don't wear make up..unless u want it to run)...but other then the watering it doesn't hurt THAT BAD....~Just Make Sure You Clean It, And Twist It Every Day~...that is whats most important. I had it done ....5 times before I got it right...The 1st 3 times I did it myself(on the right side)...the 4th time the pro's did it (let me tell u it hurts ALOT less when you have some one else do it for you)..Anyway..the 4th time I got it done it got infected(REALLY BAD)...I don't know y...n the last time(5th)..I got it done by pro's(on the left side)...and I have had it for 6 months. Just make sure you go to a clean shop, and make sure you see them take a sterile needle(or put a sterile needle on the gun)..out of the pack...Remember you can't take the 1'st ring out of your nose, until it heals all the way! So it might be a good idea for you to take the nose ring of your choice to the shop. That months! Really if you take an asprin before you get it done, and relax while getting it way your not stuck with an ugly silver ball. I hope this helps EVERYBODY! Good Luck!...and TRUST ME you WILL look cute with your new nose ring.

i dont have my nose pierced but i'm getting it done the day i get out of school. those of u who want it done with a gun..whether it's steel or regular..i think u should reconsider. a piercing gun is a piercing gun..steel can be sterilized n regular cant. all piercing guns are going to shatter ur cartlidge whether it's meant for ur nose or cartlidge or whatever. needles are painful (i have a fear of needles or shots..but then again most people do..) but it's gonna be worth the pain. my best friend said her's didnt hurt at all when she got her right nostril pierced but my friend david said it killed him cuz he had a larger gauge than normal. i think if u stick with an 18g when getting it pierced u should be fine. different people have different pain tolerance. in response to "elf"..my i'm 15 n my parents werent goin to let me get it done at first but i talked them into it. just explain to ur parents why u want it and try to be calm when talkin to them. they'll eventually give in or otherwise wait. they'll most likely make u take it out if they didnt approve..it's so much better with parent approval just cuz it makes the piercing more enjoyable. if anyone needs clear retainers for school or work i recommend the Quartz glass nostril retainer from Glasswear studio..go to bodyartforms.com n look at retainers..this girls principal checked her nose herself n couldnt see ANYTHING at all! n when u ask about whether it's better to get it pierced with a screw or stud..i think stud is better when getting it pierced but after it heals i think screw would be fine n it wouldnt matter either way. but ur nose is sensitive at first n stud will be a slight bit easier to take out in the beginning. there is a little ball at the end of the nose studs but that..i think..makes it easier than twisting it out at first..but everyone has there own preferences..any questions or wanna talk..bAyBiigUrL2213

for everyone getting your nose pierced and wondering if u should have it done with a gun or a needle, i would say a needle because thats what i used when i pierced my own nose and i didn't feel anything at all. and i think that if u use a gun it'd be way to big to fit up anyones nose unless u like have a really big nose. and i pierced my own belly button, i pierced my ears the second time, and i pierced some of my friends ears and noses and they said that it didn't really hurt as bad as people say it does. if anyone wants to talk to me u can hit me up on yahoo (part_time_angel_05_07) msn (bad_gurl_2007@hotmail.com) or aim (mzperfect62189) and ill gladly tell u what u need to know.

hey, i got my nose pierced on Friday with a gun and they said "take it out in 4 days and it will be fine". so i did that and thats when disaster struck! the little 1 i bought was to little, so i thought "oh no! ooh I'lljust put my stud back in. I went to do that and it got about 3/4 of the way in and then just wouldn't move so i tried a earing, a safety pin and a sewing needle but there just didn't seem to be a hole at the end so i decided to just leave it and wait until it heals then get it re pierced. i would just like to know a few questions please: when will the hole go away? should i get it re done with a needle? does it hurt getting it re done over the scar? is 4 days to soon?

OK guys...nose piercing. First of all, use a needle for all of the previously listed reasons. Secondly ASK IF THEY CUSTOM FIT the rings you will be getting. Everyone's noses are different so you need something that is made to fit you. And in case you didn't already know, you shouldn't be putting earrings in your noses. Feel free to quiz your piercer on their knowledge of piercing and your nose...they should know and it's your body. Another thing to know is that even when everything is done properly scar tissue may develop. If you have problems go to a piercer first, they are more experienced with piercing complications than your family physician is likely to be. Also please choose a STERILE place that uses proper equipment, ask around.

Last week I had my nose pierced (right side, though IT ABSOLUTELY DOESN'T MATTER WHICH SIDE!!!!) I was pierced with the gun, didn't hurt at all. I would advise you to allow her/him to count to 3, as that was the only thing.. the surprise!! I had my upper ear done (by gun) didn't hurt, but took long time to heal, and is a bugger when you are too lazy to take out at night! However I am thrilled with this piercing!!!! I have 10 piercing by gun and never had a problem with healing... use your head, use the antiseptics, keep your paws off for awhile after piercing is done and ENJOY! THIS IS A TRUTHFUL ANSWER FROM A MOTHER OF A 20 year old son, who is TERRIFIED OF NEEDLES!!!!

I ran across this site and am horrified. As an apprentice piercer I have a few things to say; don't do the gun. It's the worst thing you could ever do to yourself. The stud can not possibly be sharper than the needle and the needle is hallow which means the piercing has a cleaner hole. And for all the people who are asking if it hurts. Yes, you're putting a sharp object through your body. I for one know that it hurt so bad that I went back and got 8 more piercings. If you can't take a little pain, find a new hobby; piercing may not be for you. And for all of you who have done it yourself to "save some money" if you can't pay the $40, you're not responsible enough to get it done; get a job, think about getting the piercing and remember; THIS IS PERMANENT! No piercing can ever heal completely after it's completely healed, the SCAR WILL ALWAYS BE THERE even if it's just a little one.

Stud vs. Needle A properly done piercing is performed using a hollow needle that is extremely sharp. It has a beveled edge that creates a very neat, clean slice in the tissue. This leaves the area with very little damage or trauma, allowing for the easiest healing and minimal complications as well as less pain for a shorter period of time. A piercing gun uses a dull stud that punches through the ear by sheer force. Look closely at the end of a piercing stud and it is obvious just how dull it is. Remember that you can sleep on these studs without cutting your neck. Because the stud is dull, it rips through the tissue, causing major tearing, trauma and compaction in the tissue. This will lead to a longer healing time and increased risk of building up excessive scar tissue in and around the piercing. It also causes more irritation and swelling, leading to more pain for an extended period of time. Excessive scar tissue can cause problems for those that intend to, or decide to stretch their piercings to larger gauges. Some find that it hinders stretching, or even makes it impossible. It will often cause the stretching process to be much slower and involved than normal to allow the scar tissue time to soften and the stretch to heal properly.

Never, never allow anyone to use a gun. the needle causes less tissue trauma,reduces the risk of scarring and if instructions by a well trained "Tech" are followed risk of infection can be minimal. Always ask if the environkment is sterile, how long the person has been piercing, if a fresh needle is used. the "tech" should first ask if you are allergic to latex, and put on the appropriate sterile gloves. you should see them remove the needle from the sterile packaging and the same goes for the SURGICAL STEEL nose RING that will be worn after the piercing. a stud should never be worn in the fresh wound, which is exactly what has been created. The area should be cleaned with mild or anti-biotic soap twice daily. flush the area regularly with saline solution. Never make your own saline unless a health practitioner instructs you how, as table salt has fillers in it that can cause infection. Saline that is used to rinse contact lenses is perfect. Hepatitis is on the rise in the piercing world. You have to be an informed consumer and ask any questions, when it comes to piercings no question is a stupid one when you are trying to protect yourself. muchly pierced person

i got my nose pierced a year ago with the gun and im not gonna lie, it did hurt...but only for like 10 seconds. my bros gf got hers with a needle and she actually passed out! i think guns are the way 2 go. getting it done with the needle takes much longer than with the gun...with the gun, click and it through! also, u gotta be really careful that the ring doesnt fall out after the piercing. i cant tell u how many times mine went down the drain either in the shower or while i was washing my face! one time, i didnt realise that it had fallen out and the hole partially closed and i had to pierce it agen myself! friggin hurt like hell mate...anyway sorry bout my little essay here but i hope ive helped u in some way good luck

I have my nose pierced on my left n I'm straight of course. My friend got her nose pierced on her right. She just send me some pics of her piercing via email. I couldn't believe it. I know (or thought)shes straight but shes got it on her right. I emailed her telling her what I thought...(OMG blah blah blah don't tell me your gay)Don't tell me its on the right blah blah!! And she emailed me today saying "yeah its the right" I emailed her back "oh no i never knew u were a lez" I heard that if you get your nose pierced on the left your straight n if its on the right your gay. hi this is to "princess_alyssa10@hotmail.com"....ok u said that the gunn is 100% safer, im srry but u are 100% wrong. the gun leaves large bumps and takes much longer to heal. almost everyone who gets their nose done with a gun gets infected, this is becuzz the gun cannot be starilized, its a different story if your using a steel gun, cuzz they can be sterilized. but guns can do some serious damage to the cartilage in your nose so i dont recomend getting it done with a gun. of course a gun is less painful, but i'drather go through the pain of a needle then go through the pain of an infection. so hopefully sum pplz take my advece just dont get it done with the gun because there are too many risks!

DO NOT GET PIERCED WITH A GUN!!! I cannot stress this enough! A piercing gun cannot be properly sterilized, and it also causes a lot more trauma to the piercing site than getting pierced with a needle. That means LESS PAIN, and FASTER HEALING when it is done with a needle. Also, DO NOT PIERCE YOURSELF! I pierced my own cartilage before, and it caused a large keloid to the piercing, because it was done with a sewing needle, and not the proper equipment. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to get it done properly, with a needle and by a trained professional!!! Oh, and it wasn't that painful at all when I got my nose done with a needle at the tattoo parlor. It made my eyes water, thanks to natural reflexes, but other than that it was nothing. I have also gotten my bellybutton and tongue pierced too. It didn't hurt at all for my bellybutton, and my tongue hurt worse than my nose, but that's just me. Happy Piercing!

First off, nose piercing DO hurt. Not gonna lie. My eye (yes, one eye) was watering SOOO badly. And, for the whole day, any time I touched it, or brushed against it, it hurt like hell. I just got it done yesterday. Anyway, today it's not that bad at all. A little sore, but thats it. I have to say, it hurt more then my tongue! Ok, second thing, gun vs needle. No matter how you get it done, it's still gonna scar. But, it's called make up. And, chances are, the scars not going to be bad at all. I've seen them. So, it's call make up if it really bothers you THAT much. Also, the gun, whether it uses a sharp or blunt earing, STILL damages tissue. Either way, a needle is recommended. I mean, think of it this way. Technically, they'd STILL be stabbing something through your nose. A sort of needle. May as well go with the needle if it's better for you.

alright everyone. I JUST pierced my nose, yes, by myself. I still can't believe I did it..But i'mso glad I did! I did it with a needle. Just a regular needle. I steralized it for about 10 minutes, iced my nose for about 2, and just..starting shoving the needle through. I was so lightheaded...it feels kinda gross feeling the needle tear through your flesh. ;) But it didn't really hurt...just..kinda gross lol...It didn't even bleed. I did it right which I'm thankful for. But honestly...piercing your own nose yourself, isn't safe for everyone...i did it because i have a steady hand, and i can take a lot of pain...I recommend getting it done by a pro, but yeah. I can't even feel my nose piercing. it isn't even red. =) It doesn't hurt when i twist it or anything...so...people who would like to pierce their nose, go right ahead. =) Just be careful...and make sure you don't bleed. xD

Ell, i seriously would'ntworry about getting your belly button pierced. They DONT use guns for that, they do it with a needle. I had mine done on holiday and its better to have it done in proffesional places tho( i went to spain. i cud not even feel them preparing my belly coz they dont have a limit of how much freeze spray they can use, u have no feeling at all! but it will be pierced with a ring, not a bar normally its preferred that way. only takes a few weeks to heal. (i live in england) my friend had it done in england tho and they dont always use spray and she said it hurt like bloody hell! i was sat outside, i heard her scream, but honestly shes a drama queen, i go light headed at the sight of needles and i had it done so its ok! :)

i got my cartlidge in my ear done with a gun, and it never healed. i eventually just took it out b/c like 7 months after getting it, it hurt to touch it, when i cleaned it, it would bleed, and it always had that "bump" that someone mentioned about their nose. i got my nose done my a professional at a tatoo/piercing place. it only hurt a teeny tiny bit; not enough to make me cry or pass out or anything. i definately recommend that over doing it yourself or with a gun. if you're worried about some "stranger" putting holes in your body, it's their job. They're professionals for a reason, and i'm sure if you're doing it yourself, you don't have much experience, if any. and it's a hell of a lot safer as far as sterilized materials go, and it heals better, and there are just too many good reasons to go to a professional who doesn't use a gun, versus doing it yourself or with one of those retarded guns

For ALL of your information, I got my nose done about two months ago and it felt like someone took there finger nail and pressed hard at my nose. I teared up and it bled a bit. I must say, I didn't think it hurt much at all. I got it done with a screw and find it easy to clean, but it can be uncomfortable because the screw can pop out of your nose and you feel like you have to constantly touch it, though if I had to do it again, I would choose the screw again. But I think it is more personal as to what you want. I just did not want a ring in my nose, maybe you do? The needle isn't scary either, i am really scared of needles as well and frankly, you never even see it and it is very quick. I also got my cartilage done with a needle and on the other side with a gun. The pain is no different and personally, I prefer the needle even though it costs more because you can put whatever gauge you want in it and you know you are getting it done professionally unlike Claire's or something like that. As long as you clean your piercing like you are supposed to, everything should be fine.

heyy everyone.. here are some tips for you to look out or if you are getting your nose pierced.. i got mine done yesterday and my mom works at a tatoo and piercing parlour. * use a needle (never a gun)better in the long run and gun hurs more than needle anyway tatoo and piercing parlos are the place to go because they have had the most experience and will help you through it if you are scared. think about it.. if you really want this done its not even 10 seconds worth of pain clean it to the best of your ability with pharmacist salt and water on a q-tip 3 times a dayy!!! (if u want it to heal properly) never touch your [piercing except when cleaning with a q-tip cuz bacteria on your hands will lead to an infection. if it gets badly infected call the place where you got it pierced right away! take care of it and follow all of these rules.. im sure it looks gorgeous good luck! :) ohh yahh. it doesn't hurt very much with a needle!! and im a big baby

OMG HELLO ppl guns are NOT that bad hello i did mine with a gun and we are not trained for a week we take months training for needles tattoos piercing with guns and needles many ppl like the needle and another fact they do not use a dull blunt edge its a sharp tip if you take it out you would have noticed..... guns are faster and they do not shatter anything a needle would in fact do the same thing it would not just make a ghost hole which is painless no i dont think so yes it heals faster and removes the skin but after 2 days you wont feel the gun and you could remove the nose stud. I have had no complaints to put parlor and our guns are perfectly sterilized we send them away to get sterilized and now we use metal ones which after every use they go and stick them in our boiling unit so before you tell me how we run our parlor do a bit of looking around actually asking decent places instead of looking things up in the Internet which are half true half false lies From The Manager And Worker At Blue Dragon Tattoos:Samantha A-H J.

Hey i wanted my nose pierced and i got it done now but i had hell with mine, i got my nose pierced bout 8pm and it was fine and it looked really kl,i cleaned it b4 i went to bed gave it a little twist and made sure it was OK then went to sleep, i went to sleep on my back so i didn't knock it but that night it got caught on something y i was sleeping and it came out and because i had just had it pierced bout 3 hours ago the back sealed up so i started panicing and tryin to push it through that didnt work and i needed to calm down so i decided to try again the nxt day and it wouldnt go through so i went bac to salon and they repierced it but because i had been pushin it ,it had swelled up so it wouldnt go through so they tried again but my nose had gone hard round the piercin and wouldnt let any ting through so they told me to leave it a week and i got it pierced again the followin sat and it only hurt a tiny bit more than the first time i had got it pierced and the first time didnt hurt at all. so if u wonna get ur nose done go for it and if it comes out y ur sleepin dont panic just get ur stud and see if it will slide back in if it doesnt dont panic and start pushin cause it will just swell up leave it till the nxt day go bac to where u got it pierced tell them wot happened and they can just repierce it for u through the same hole and everything and by the way guns dont hurt and the piercer can see where their piercin coz they got it through the same hole in my nose twice XxXxXxXxXxX

hahha...everyone is freaking out! i got my nose pierced 6 weeks ago at a tattoo and piercing parlor with a very good reputation. i got it done with a needle, as all body piercings are meant to be done. whoever said that the gun shatters the cartilidge is 100% correct...i have gotten gun AND needle piercings, and i guarantee that the gun piercing will take forever to heal, and leave you with scar tissue. as for the pain issue, it is NOTHING. i have a very low pain threshold, and when i got the needle put through it, it was like a pinch, or getting a facial...and you should always get it pierced with a nose SCREW...they are easy to clean, and safe...i hope i helped! more questions? shortstuf21 is my screen name

I don't know why anyone would pierce themselves with any type of piercing except maybe the ears and that is pushing it. I have a total of 28 piercings. 11 in my ears, nose, tongue, labret, nipples 2 each and a 10 piece corset on my back. When I was 15, I attempted to pierce my own belly button with a gun and it go sooo infected and filled with puss and I ended up in the hospital. I would NOT recommend it with any part of the body. With different areas on the body, if you hit the wrong area, many things can happen. 1) If hit the wrong vein you can bleed to death 2) If you hit the wrong area in the ear you can paralyze yourself 3) Infected nose piercings can cause brain damage. These are only a few of the things. Piercings honestly need to be taken very seriously. If anything, make friends with a piercer, get the hook up. At least be safe about it. Body modifications can be fatal. That's why you need to be a certain age because you have to sign a release form or your parents have to sign. Just in case things happen because even veteran piercers can screw up.

Umm....im 13 and Ive pierced my nose myself 2Ce and now I'm going to get it done Professionally. the ones i did myself seemed to hurt alot and took longer(i felt i couldn't trust myself) so i wouldn't recommend anyone to do it themselves unless their 100% certain and they have the right stuff to do it with. Ive already Decided to have my 1st Professional nose piercing with a gun, a. because its cheaper and b. because i think i could handle the pain more. I'm usually OK with piercings, i already have 8. The most painful one was my belly bar which put me off needle piercings, the pain was immense. I think ill cope well with the gun, two of my friends have had their noses done at the Studio i plan to go to, and both of theirs was fine and apparently 'Painless' On the other hand, My own mother went to this exact studio a couple of years ago to get her nose pierced and she said the pain was complete agony. I don't know who to belive so instead of daunting on Others opinions, I'm going to go for it. my only worry is that ill regret it. ill leave Feedback when Ive had the Piercing, Wish Me Luck!

I had my nose pierced about 4 weeks ago with a gun. with the gun that was used on me... it was a one time use gun... it was in a sealed package and then it was thrown away after it was pierced. And it didn't hurt at all. I mean seriously, I was freaking out... they had to wait like 15 minutes before I gave them the ok to actually shoot the gun... because I had heard it was the worst pain ever... but then it was easier then getting the cartilage on your ear pierced to me... but as it appears... I think everyone is evidentially different and I'm sure it has alot to do with where you hit on the nose and what you end up piercing through.... right after it was done it wasn't even sore and I LOVE it! However... I have been cleaning it with alcohol.. and everyone tells me I'm not supposed to... but I really don't want it to get infected... and my skin is already senesitve... I asked why I shouldn't and they said it just irritates it too badly... however... it doesn't bother me... maybe I have a high pain tolerance... I'm not sure... but could someone please explain this to me... thanks...

Well, i got my nose pierced with a needle three weeks ago. I have had my ears pierced many times, some by myself; i have also had my nipple and my tongue pierced by pros. It certainly hurt, BUT within about 10 or 15 minutes the sting went away, within about an hour, the pain even from moving my nose was gone, and from then till now it barely hurts at all. Sometimes it itches, which just means it needs to be cleaned. Yes it hurt (I swore) and yes it stung, but the healing period this far has been relatively painless, including the brief time when i thought it was getting infected. It just depends on the person and on how well you take care of it. Definitely go with a needle from a professional piercer and make sure they unwrap it from it's sterile packaging in front of you. They have experience and are doing a job they love, instead of just being some 17 year old who is getting paid 6 dollars an hour at Claire's or whatever.

ive had quite a few piercings, all done with needles and they've been absolutely fine. but girls - seriously - if you want a piercing, go to someone who knows what they're doing. doing it yourself is just plain stupidity. needles are safer than guns, as explained in previous posts. and the little blisters that sometimes come up on the hole can be fixed using SEA SALT, not regular table salt, and some lukewarm water. use some cotton buds to throughly clean the area but dont take the stud/ring out because it only slows down the healing process. and of course getting any piercing is guna hurt for a short while - a hole is being pierced into your skin to put a metal bolt through it...

man unbelievable I have my lip pierced 4 times eyebrow twice on each side ears 9 times on right side and 11 times on left my belly button pierced and nose and I think that you lil girls can handle getting ur nose pierced the most painful for me were my eyebrows I gave my piercing alot of TLC (tender love and care) Its pretty sad when you fork out your money and don't give them care because then you have a disgusting mess of green gunk tips cotton balls or Q-tips cleaning solution that the piercer recommended sea slat for belly button put sea salt in a tiny cup with water and sit back watch t.v for about ten Min's take off use cotton ball to pat dry that should keep it from getting infected

I want to get my nose pierced really badly but my parents are totally against it, even though when I get it done I'll be in college. I'm seriously considering doing it anyways, and I want it to have healed before I go home for Thanksgiving. I hear that with a needle it takes much less time to heal, and is generally better for the cartilage in your nose. However, I'm really scared of needles and don't know if I can handle the pain of it, and would much rather get it done using a gun. I read on here that somebody is getting it done at a dermatologists office with a steel gun? Okay kids listen up here are some facts: Needle is safer because A. It will be a new disposable one that is only going to get used on you. B. Its more precise. C. Its sharp. the studs they use with guns are not sharp. Sure they may look sharp but just think of it this way if you press the tip against your finger it might poke a little but not much else. Unless you use a great amount of force its not going to draw blood. now a needle on the other hand I don't recommend you try that unless you want to draw blood. with the gun, because it uses such force to jam that ring in your cartilage there is more of a possibility of harming said cartilage. You could end up with an ugly keloid.(basically raised scar tissue) now we go into sanitation. what would you rather use: a disposable fork or a fork that some has been touching? you don't know what people have, whether they washed their hands or not or whatnot. So why would you want to use something that many people have probably already touched. You don't know where that gun has been. needles come in a sterile package that the piercer opens in front of you. there are some things for you guys to think about before you get anything done. any questions, comments or whatever tezcatlipoca04@sbcglobal.net

OMG I got my nose pierced...and...IT DIDNT HURT!! and if you knew me then you would think that i would have died but I didnt...(obviously kus iam still here...typing) but ne ways I have a lowwww tolerence for pain soo even a little shot hurts the crap out of me!! but when I got my nose pierced I didnt feel it because the clamp that they use to hold your nose bascially cuts off your circulation and you cant feel the pain...you can feel the needle go through but it doesnt hurt it's just a little pressure!! and I know a little pressure sounds scary but it doesnt hurt trusttttt me!!! and the after pain is sore like after you get a shot and if somebody touches it...it will feel sore but now painfull!! I was scared to death when i got it pierced...when she put alcohol on my nose I jumped like i got pinched in the booty!! lol!! I will admit I did cry but it was just because I was scared and I was basically crying before I got peirced!! Okay, I am not a professional in anyway, but I can tell you what I know from experience. I have had 3 of my friends get their nose done professionally with a gun. One of them passed out, the other one couldn't breath normally for about 2 full mins, and the last one fell off the chair. In their opinion, and mine, it hurts too much and is too hard on your nose. I pierced my nose myself yesterday with a needle and it is doing fine. I am cleaning it with alcohol and neosporin. Quite frankly, I think it is best to be shown what to do by someone who knows what they are doing, and then do it yourself. You are more aware of how fast you need to take it and whether or not it is a too far of an angle than someone else. To me it didn't hurt while I was piercing it, putting in the stud hurt a little but no biggie. You don't really feel it until the morning.

i have 13 piercings to date. I'm 17. I have 3 pairs up the top of both ears, soooo does NOT hurt..truthfully!! its done with a gun, quick n easy. All main ear piercings are done with a gun. I got my tragus done (the catilage flap on side of face in ear) did not hurt at all in fact, this was done with a needle, they stick popstick underneath so it doesnt stab ur inner ear...belly button...once again..DID NOT HURT.used a needle, very clean and sanitised. Got my nose done 2day...probably the only one that was a tiny bit painful..which i didnt expect, considering belly button and tragus were supposedly meant to hurt, but they didnt.They used a gun for my nose...not sure if they were meant to, but they've been doing it for many years. My eyes watered just as a reaction, but pain is not unbearable, just a quick thing. I recommend all!!

I was browsing some piercing informational sites to catch some urban myths or mistruths about certain types of body piercing. I've been a professional body piercing specialist for the last 8 years. I've worked in clean shops from New York to LA, and I was shocked to hear some of the unbacked advice and information being given and used in this forum. 1. It is true that the nose band brains share several small veins and capillaries. That being said, humans having closed circulatory systems and a central heart means you don't have much more chance of acquiring brain damage from a nose piercing than you do a nipple piercing. Furthermore, there have been no documented studies of ANYONE suffering brain damage from a nose piercing. 2. Several people have echoed this lie. Piercing guns are not safe. Serious infection can occur, especially if the gun is used to pierce anything but the soft tissue around the ear lobe. There have also been documented cases of the transmission of serious blood diseases (including HIV) from the use of dirty guns. Remember... guns are plastic, and CANNOT be properly sterilize in an autoclave (a device much like a pressure cooker that uses heat and steam to sterilize metal, surgical-grade equipment). I would always recommend finding a professional body piercer who has been at his craft for several years before putting holes in your body. If you absolutely must do the piercing(s) yourself, take some good advice and order reputable, hermetically sealed and sterilized hollow piercing needles (I'd recommend 18 to 16 gauge for most starter piercings), a large quantity of alcohol swabs, and possibly a good set of forceps and receiving tubes, although these last two are not really a requirement. You can find all of this equipment on eBay for less than $20. A small price to pay for your continued health. Also, please remember good aftercare. Regular cleaning (2 to 3 times a day, at least) of your piercing with a mild anti-bacterial soap, moving the jewelry in and out to make sure the inner-piercing gets nice and clean. Different types of piercings require different healing times, so research the time requirement for your individual piece of art. I am 14 . and i got my nose pierced about.. not to long ago. i was VEARY freaked out. when i got to the piercing place i was about to wet my paints. then when i sat down in the char i looked up they guy had his gloves right out of the box ! new needle and then i thought i can do this i looked up there was this nail in the middle of the wall (as i was looking at the nail he put a pipe in my nose and said sit still it will feel like poping a pimple on the tip of your nose) so i only looked at the center of the nail and next thing i know we were talking about who to keep it clean i love my nose piercing to death it was sweet being the only kid in my school to have one the first 1. and walking out of there was great every adult was like your a tuff kid it was SWEET . so just to let you know NO PAIN AT ALL WELL A LIL YEAH BUT JUST LIKE A PINCH thats it

Just to clear up all of the questions here... I am a professional piercer, i'vebeen doing piercings for 5 years +. You should never get a piercing done with a gun, especially cartilage piercings, but including earlobes as well, because all a gun does is rips flesh and cartilage. People get lucky with getting they're earlobes pierced with a gun because the tissues there are so soft that a jagged hole can still heal to some extent. However, if you get your nose pierced with a gun, or any other cartilage, it wont heal correctly, 90% of the time it will get infected, and you more than likely will develop a ceyloid (the fatty lumps some cartilage piercings develop) If you've already chose to get one done with a gun and your having problems with it, chances are you will always have problems with it. Best thing for you to do is to take it out, let it heal completely, and get it professionally done with a needle... One other thing for those of you that think guns hurt less than needles, think about what your saying! Does jamming a rough shaft through your nostril, while shattering the cartilage underneath sound and less painful than creating a smooth cut through the skin while leaving the cartilage intact? Where the problem lies is places like Clair's and all the other places in your local mall have no professional experience, they just see money, are you really willing to take a chance with something thats going to become a semi-permanent part of you? Leave piercings to the professionals, thats what we dedicate years of our lives to knowing...

piercing with a needle and a gun don't leave that type of impression.. here's how it really works.. With my 10+ years experience as a body mod artist (body piercing), i've come to find that the garage piercers that do nose jobs with guns leave scar tissue because of the punch, close fast due to hole size/etc, infect easier, puncture capillaries which leaves red lines on your face, and in a whole is just a bad idea period because of all that crap that goes along with it. needles are more fluid, if done correctly no other nasty scars or blood lines will be visible even when you decide to take it out, over all are more sterile (because you can't completely sterilze a gun no matter what you do), and heal faster and easier with proper care. do some studying before posting.

Hey all, I got my nose pierced 4th of July weekend, and It's either really perfect or really bad, no in betweens. I got it done with a needle, which is much more painful than a gun, but it is relatively safer, I did lots of homework. It isn't even about cleanliness of the gun, but my piercer was saying that because of placement of the piercing with the gun it has decreased blood flow. My friend that came with me to get it done had her nose pierced with a gun, so she was very interested in this as well. Right now my nose is kind of infected and I'm kind of scared.. I hear all this stuff about brain damage.. As far as I've read its best to keep it in and I take it out twice a day to clean it. Some advice- use H2Ocean spray on it, purified salt water. its awesome! Well If anyone has any other advice about my (hopefully not too bad) infection feel free to post or email me at vocalize08@hotmail.com!

hey every1, im got my belly done 2 days ago an it didnt hurt!! but now i really wana get my nose done (getin it done 2moro yey)...2 of my friends got theirs done last year 1 with a gun and the other with a needle, the 1 with the needle said it takes quite a while and hurts loads an the other said that that gun hurts but she did go an get it done twice in 1 day coz she took it out and then wanted it done again! so it couldnt hav hurt that much!!! just remember evry 1 has different opinions on what hurts an wat doesnt so u just have to experience it 4 ur self and then ull hav ur own views-like i didnt think mi belly hurt but mi friend screamed jus go 2 a shop an c wether they get out a gun or needle get it done an look after it properly!!!!! good luck

I had my nose pierced about 4 months ago with a needle by a 'professional' The night after I had it pierced, I pulled it out in my sleep. I had it pierced again the day after and I accidentally pulled it out the day after when I scratched my nose.. I then had it pierced again the day after that on the other side but I had them put a ring through it. With fresh piercings, the best choice for jewelery is prolly surgical steel. Some golds can cause a gold allergy. Uhh.. I've had no problems with my nose since that last time and I normally wear a ring the shuts with the ball(I can't remember what it's called...)If you're getting your nose done, go to a professional piercer, not a doctor and get it done with a needle. It hurts a little when they put the needle through but after it's done, it doesn't hurt. Just... If you get it done with a stud, be careful that you don't pull it out accidentally. And if your nose swells up at all(which it might) the stud will fall out easier and it's REALLY REALLY hard to get it back in. Anyway. That's my story and advice... Yay.(Oh... and as for which side to get it done, get it done on whichever you think will look best!)

hi i have had my nose pierced once before an it was fine i got mine done with a gun an it was OK although the bone down my nose was very tender it was fine it didn't really hurt i had to take mine out because of school but i am getting mine done agen tomorrow but i am not sure weather i wont to after reading this i am not sure about what way to get it done and i went into a shop 2day an they said they don't use the gun anymore because of the power of the gun can come back fast an break your nose so i am really not sure now i was lucky the first time i am just worried after reading the bit about the brain damage and am not sure weather the needle will hurt more or not i really wont it done with the gun but i don't if you no what i mean cause i have had it done befor an it was OK i just don't want to take that change an plus i am abit UN sure about the needle he he fanx 4 the advice anyway Jo x

i got my nose pierced about 2 years ago and while i was sleeping the stud came out and the hole closed, i was desperate to have it done again and my mum let me so last week i had my nose done again the 2 times ive had it done i went to the same tattoo shop there clean and the stud was sterile they did it with a gun which felt a tiny bit uncomfotable when it went in but a pinched a bit afterwards for a while, if you have it done with a needle it takes longer and it probaly hurts a lot more i would say that you should have it done with a gun because its over in a second, i also did my chin myself which got infected but it didnt hurt loads but you should get it done professionaly and its a lot of work to look after, if you want to see some of the work the tattoo shop i went to does then search west coast tattoo aberystwyth, they also have a live webcam so you can see some of the work happening! pink-flower123@hotmail.co.uk

Regarding the ring or screw question: it depends on what you want for your piercing. One is not necessarily better than the other but one might be better for the specific spot you want pierced. I went with a nose screw and really like it. It feels secure. My piercer adjusted the screw so that it's a bit bigger while the wound is still swollen and she advised me to come back after the swelling lessened so she could adjust it again. I think your choice also has something to do with your personal preference. I though that I'd be less likely to bump a screw than a ring (I thought I might accidentally snag it on something). Also, I'd just like to add that I'm not a big fan of needles and I got my nose pierced by a professional piercer who used a needle and it hardly hurt at all. In fact, I think it hurt the same amount as all those times I had my ears pierced with guns. But the healing time (with a needle) is greatly reduced and it ends up being a lot less painful in the end (healing-wise), there's less swelling, and less chance of developing scar tissue.

i got my nose pierced about 2 months ago with a gun. the pain wasnt that bad, i mean it was tolerable, but it still hurt. i went to a tattoo place a couple days after i got it done to see if they thought it was infected and they told me that its really bad to get your nose pierced with a gun. all the gun does is shove the end of the earring through your nose and shatters your cartledge. you are supposed to get it done with a hollow needle because it removes the piece of skin where the earring will now be. i think the lady who did mine positioned it wrong. it looks perfect on the outside but on the inside of my nose its really high up. its not infected though and its healed up pretty good. i havent taken it out yet, im still nervous to, because they say it takes longer to heal when done with a gun. i recommend piercing your nose professionally with a hollow needle. its just all-around safer and will give better results!

The amount of pain and infection greatly depends on the person. When I got my nose pierced, it didn't bother me in the least. Granted, the clamps were slightly uncomfortable and when the lady put the stud it (I got one with a ball), it was a little sharp pain. But seriously, one lady effed up my 3rd earlobe piercing and that hurt a lot more than my nose. As for infection, mine got infected over and over and over...nothing terribly, it got annoying, but another friend's nose healed in 3 weeks. Oh yea, and saline is your best friend... If you want to get your nose pierced, LET A PROFESSIONALY DO IT. It will cost more, but it will be safer in the long run. And only let them use a hollow needle...guns are only good for earlobe piercing (I think). Good luck with your nose. I personally love mine and would do it over again just for the adrenaline rush.

okay so you guys do some research. for real. needle guns are illegal, period. end of discussion. if you don't believe me, look it up on the net there is a site that i JUST visited that gives you a list of things to expect from a STERILE LICENSED PROFESSIONAL--a person who knows what their doing!! these "guns" you guys are talking about easily transmit diseases. you guys should know this, really! and if your worried about whether its going to hurt, or what to do after its been done, ask the piercer to give you a typed step by step on cleaning and healing directions. ask them to walk you through it. and DEFFINATELY ask if you could watch them prepare for your piercing. they should have a disposable needle-make sure they open it in front of you and watch to make sure they throw it away. they should wear disposable medical gloves and have some sort of training..which can be anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. however, some are self-taught but those people usually have a background with anatomy or medical recall. I'm17 and I'vewanted my nose pierced since last summer...here summer has rolled around again and I'mextremely impatient. but I'veseen piercings done wrong and I'mnot willing to have an infection or lump b/c i didn't get it done right. wait it out girls. as bad as you don't want to and hate hearing this, wait it out. (but for you lucky girls whose parents are willing to sign--just make sure your going about all of it the right way.) take care!

A piercing-gun inflicts blunt trauma force to the body (sort of like trying to punch a hole through your arm) which increases the chance for infection and an unpleasant healing process. ALL piercings should be performed with a hollow, surgical steel tribevel needle. This will alleviate the problem of "blowout" (having a volcano-like build-up of flesh around the exit hole of you piercing) and decrease chances for infection. The first such problem is the risk of contracting disease. Most guns have plastic parts which cannot be properly sterilized, giving rise to the possibility of spreading bacterial infections, such as those suffered recently by a group of people in Oregon after getting pierced at a mall, or more serious blood-borne diseases such as Hepatitis B and C. The second problem has to do with the shape and composition of the jewelry itself and the force applied by it to the earlobe (or any body part), making healing difficult. These guns were first manufactured to tag livestock, and inflict unnecessary blunt trauma to the tissue. heyy i had my friend pierce my nose......it took me sum time to work up the courage then she took a 16 gauge needle and pushed it through....it was a lil painful but not really the worst part was tht my eyes watered so much....but it didnt hurt then the nex thing u know 4 other ppl r asking her to do theirs so they were getting theirs done and wut i think ppl hoo hav skinnier nostrells hav less pain....mine is more thick tht is y mine hurted a bit but every one else was fine... if ur PARENTS wont let u put and band aid on it and say u hav a zit tht is wut i said it baught me a few day...lol hav ne ?s or wanna ask me how it is going contact me at email- nenelovesnene123@yahoo.com or on aim- callmeshortay09 ~kristina, 15~

Yeah I pierced my belly button twice.... My ears 8 times all the way up on both sides.... And my lip 4 times.... and my nose I did like 3 years ago.... And I did it with a spray painted (yellow paint) Tooth brush bristel... I was in the slammer and short of supplies.. but year it turned out fine. And I numbed it with a lil of this pill this buddy of mine gave me... But I recommend to just hang upside down and let the blood rush to your head then pierce it quickly with your Eyes closed so not to be shakey. After rub a little tomatoe sauce on it and dont worry about infection... the dirtier the better. Oh and if you peirce the harder part towards the middle it wont leave scarring so I recommend it.Good Luck..... And Go for it!

umm mi dad said that if you Pearce your nose with a gun you can get hepatitis because that don't change the needle. mi dad is a pearcest and IT WILL SHATTER YOUR NOSE CARTILAGE IT IS NOT SAFE ALSO IT CAN GET STUCK I HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN (NOT SAFE) also if you think that gun is painless its not it may be fast but its not safe. and OK dark side dancer um most nose rings are curved so you don't have to screw it into ur nose. JESS the lady that did ur friend probably wasn't experienced because i have seen it done a thousand times and it is not slow at all. KRISTI is your friend a professional because if not it can got infected also why dont you just ask her if you can she may say yes ? I've had my nose pierced about 3 times on the same side. each time with a gun. each time it mucked up. I really do not recommend having your nose pierced with a gun, for the pure fact it can shatter cartilage and if you're allergic to nickel (even in the slightest form), the odds are the cheap piercing stud will infect your nose, cause it to swell, cause a red/brown/purple/black bump under the stud of granulating tissue, which is extremely unattractive AND painful. I'm a glutton for punishment and had mine done 3 times. first time messed up and almost caused keliod (raised) scarring. Second time i went somewhere else..that didn't help and the same thing happened. Third time i took the jewelry out and put a stainless steel bar through my nose instead..that too didn't help as it had been pierced and tampered with. I strongly recommend a needle and a good piece of jewelry such as titanium or stainless steel, and a place that knows what they're doing also helps! I also recommend NOT getting pierced over an old scar..as it would be painful and heal extremely poorly, if at all. lecture over.

First off, the gun can indeed shatter the cartilage, even though it's not a blunt object. (trust me, I'm one of those people who has a week of training to use the stupid piercing gun). So, with the shattering and all that, it impedes the healing process and increases the chance of infection. It's a fact that they won't let us pierce the cartilage anymore with the gun because of that. I've had to turn many people away from the place where I work because of that. Second: I'm getting my nose pierced tomorrow and I'm one of those paranoid people that looks into every aspect of any body modification that I have planned for myself. I've come to the conclusion that the needle is safer and more likely to be sterile. Look at it this way: the studs that work with a piercing gun come in a little sealed package... sure... to be used with a multi-use gun. The piercing needles are one time use, and the jewelry they use for it are autoclaved (special steam and pressure etc treatment to sterilize everything). Also, if you go to a parlor, they have certain standards to meet. At a place with a gun (usually a hairdresser or jewelery store in the mall) They just have to kinda wipe down the counter and maybe use gloves. Just some food for thought.

I got my nose pierced yesterday (June 24 06)with a steel gun and it does not hurt that much at all. It feels like a pinch or a bee sting. It does not bleed. And it's supposed to heal after four days. My friend, Melissa, got hers done two years ago and it healed nicely and did not get infected. It all really depends on you. How well you clean it, how prone you are to pain (when getting it done) etc. It varies from person to person. Yes, guns are cheaper, that doesn't necessarily mean it will get infected though. I have had both my ears done about 10 years ago with a needle and it hurt more, and they didn't get infected either. And about the placement on your nose, the right side is supposed to mean you're a dyke (on a girl). But again, it's a personal preference where you get it done. That's just a silly saying.

I'm 22 and i just got my nose pierced yesterday. It didn't hurt one bit.(i was nervous because the last piercing i got was my tongue and i was 17 at the time yet i still have it) I got it done with a needle because guns are super bad! NEVER get a piercing don't with a gun. Anyways i totally trust my piercer and he said not to play with it and to just clean it with splashing with a salt water solution and NEVER anything else. The reason it takes 6-8wks for piercings to heal is because the piercer themselves tell the people there piercing the wrong care instructions. It should heal in 4-9 days!! :) I love my new nose stud i would recomend to anyone just go and do it.. you're gonna love it.

I got both of my Cartlidges done by a gun. My dad did them And Actually they didnt hurt really. They were sensitive for a few weeks but thats it. I got them at different times because i wanted to be able to sleep on one side of my body. But actually it was painless overall. Im trying to let my parents let me get my nose pierced I've wanted it for years and I've always asked for it but they are way to old fashion to let met. So im going to try tonight again. Im 16 so if i wanted I could just go get it now but I have respect for them and want to follow their wishes until Im 18 blah I know. So I read all the post and I see a needle is better than a gun because of the Cartlidge damage a gun can do. But i got my ears done with a gun. All 8 of my ear holes were with a gun and they seem fine. Which one should I do a needle or a gun for my nose??

nah i got the top of my ear done with a needle when i was 13 and 1 of my mums good mates is a tattoist so yeh... it didnt hurt at all... felt like a pin prick ay lol... i recomend the needle 4 that. i nevah herd of sum1z cartalige shattering!! lol ummm now im nearly 16... and like 2 or 3 months ago i pierced that thin piece of skin... on my ear.. not the cartilige, just under neath that... umm i pierced it with a clean, sterilised needle... and that hurt a bit sooo... like shoving an earing through that lol so i recomend gettin it done proffesionally. i got my bellybutton done october last year, and it was all good... nearly healed and evrything, and my skin rejected it. the skin holding the bar there jus got thinner and thinner... i got it done at off ya tree, adelaide. so im getting it done again at whyalla, cause apparrently (advice from about 5 of my mates who also got theirs done there) theres a really good piercer there. none of them have had probs wif their belly rings. im also looking to get my nose done next hollies cheers xx

Hey I saw this girl on TV geting her nose ring and they did it with a needle and I believe that's the best way,perhaps a needle is more gentle and slides in quicker.I'm not that afraid of needles,I have 3 earings in each ear and they were all done by my step father and at home and it doesnt hurt at all.Anyways..I'm planing to get my first nose ring this saturday and i was happy and all untill i read that the infection can spread to the brain...That's scaring me abit.. how can i prevent an infection ?.. and how can i heal it ?...and what are the chances of it spreading to the brain or how quick it happens... anybody can IM me at bebita945 on MSN messenger.. byez and thanks for all the messages posted here,very informative :)... smuahz

Dont worry about it, i have four piercings at the bottom of my ears and the fourth one hurt the most and seen as that was the one the most highest up i was really scared that my piercing at the top of my ear would really hurt, but when i got it done it felt like getting my first piercing done practicly painless i can't wait to get a a second one done ^^. Oh and all my piercings where done with a gun but only my first piercing was done in a shop the rest where done a home using a gun you can do it at home you know and it was fine. There is nothing wrong with getting it done with a gun personely i think its better that a needle its quick and less painful and its not a blunt end the special earings that are used in a gun a made with a sharp point......like a needle only they go in much faster.

1. where to get it done: if you live in toronto, new tribe (across the street from the muchmusic building) 2. needles and guns both have their ups and downs, it all depends on your body. everyone's unique. 3. neither side classifies your sexuality. it just means whatever side you like it better on. 4. some people bleed a lot, some don't bleed at all. pain is also unique. 5. points to give your parents if you want to convince them to let you get it done: - it's subtle, a tiny stud or ring - it's temporary, if you come home and your or they don't like it, you can take it out right away and it'll close up like a cut - offer to pay with your money (usually around 30-50 dollars) good luck, have fun with it too.

Everyone,I got my nose pierced for my b-day n november i was really nervous,my cuz took me cuz she had hers done.Ive wanted one forever!Well i got it pierced with a gun insted of a needle and i thought it was gonna hurt alot....but actually it didnt hurt that much..it felt like if i had been playn basketball and got hit in the nose with the ball.My eyes got a lil watery but it wasnt as bad as i thought it was gonna be.And i kno that they say its safer and youll heal better getting it pierced with a needle,but myne healed good its never been infected wich is good.So if your wanting to get one,you should go for it..It only hurts for a little bit with both the gun and the needle but after you get it done itll b worth it and youll love it!

Honestly, I don't know why you're all freaking out about the pain. If you want a piercing, it's something you'll have to deal with anyway. Stop worrying so much about it and just go get it done. On the subject of gun or needle, I would definitely say needle. It's been my experience that although a needle -may- hurt a little more when actually done, piercings made with the guns are more painful later (infection hurts worse than the moment of piercing and the healing process is much longer). Also, the guns are NOT sterilized as needles are. Piercing guns are an easy way to get a bloodborne disease like hepatitis or HIV. I think that part of the thrill of getting a piercing is knowing you went through the pain to get it, but maybe that's just me. I would definitely urge the needle, though, instead of the gun.

hey guys, I just got my nose done today and am completely happy with it! It didn't even hurt as bad as I thought it would, and I think upper cartilage hurts way worse. I'd like to clear some things up as well. I work at a salon where we pierce ears. We use a gun with special piercing earings. THEY ARE NOT JUST SIMPLE BLUNT EARINGS!!!! Also, even though I pierce with one I only do ears, and I only like to do earlobes with the gun, and cartilage only if the wearer is not going to stretch the holes. I usually try telling people to go to a professional piercer if they want to get anything bigger than a 18 gage. And you should never ever use a gun on any other part of the body.

STEPH: I just got my nose done and yeah, it did hurt, but not for very long. It kind o f felt like a pinch, but then right after the needle went through the person who did the piercing put a lot of pressure on my nose before putting in the stud, so it really wasn't that bad, and I think you'll to fine. DANIELLE: I wanted to have a hoop put in right away, but I didn't really have a choice on what I got because of the healing time, and I'm not sure that you will have a choice between a hoop or screw when you get either. They don't put a hoop in because it really is easier to take care of a screw when you first get it and a screw will make the piercing heal faster. So you should really get a screw if you have the choice, but if you're given that decision to make, then they'll probably give you a screw to start with until it heals. After it heals, you can just change it to a hoop if you want to.

You have to think - a nose piercing is only a tiny thin bit of metal going through a very thin bit of skin and cartilage. Thats all. If you are that nervous about getting it done then maybe you should think whether you really want it done or not. In other words - if you really wanted to get your nose pierced that much then the pain wouldn't really matter. I got mine done with a gun about 10 years ago. There was no infection and no shattering. My sister got hers done with a needle about 1 year ago and there was no infection and no shattering. It doesn't hurt and it is over in seconds and once it is done for a couple of hours it feels like a mild toothache and that's it. I have both my tragus's pierced so if you don't want pain don't get them pierced. So stop worrying just go for it.

I got my nose pierced literally about 4-5 hours ago. I was really nervous about getting it done, mainly because of the pain. So when I went in, I was shaking because I was so nervous, but the person who did it was great. He told me everything about the piercing, the type of needle, how he was going to do it, what could be the possible outcomes after the piercing etc.. And when it came to actually doing it, all he did was clean my nose then put on the anesthetic and marked with a pen where I wanted it done, and we were ready to go! i got this big tweezer like instrument and lift up my nostril with it and 1-2-3! Shoved in the needle! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and now, it doesn't even hurt!

I've had my nose pierced for three years now. I had it done when I graduated high school. It's SO unsafe to get it done with a gun. Too many risks, too many infections. The BEST and SAFEST way to EVER get your nose pierced is by a PROFESSIONAL at a SHOP with A PROFESSIONAL PIERCING NEEDLE. Trust me. I've seen way too many infections on my friends noses. PLEASE just pay the $30. And to Danielle: I had a screw placed in mine at first because studs tend to fall out faster. It'll take about three months before it heals properly and you can change it so make sure to pick one out that you like the best! I have studs now but make sure that you use some kind of sterilization spray to keep it safe and clean!

the best thing to do is to get your nose pierced with a needle at a professional piercing place. they know what they are doing and have had years of training. don't take any chances after all the piercing is in the center of your face and is not easily hid. a nose screw is best. do not get a nose bone ( a stud with 2 balls on the end) as they can sometimes get stuck as the skin grows around the post. anything but a nose screw can fall out to easily and forcing it back in can prolong the healing process. the best way to clean your piercing is just cleaning it when you wash your face. don't clean it more then twice a day and use a gentle non-irritating soap. DO NOT use peroxide or anything similar because it is way to strong and will dry out the wound and cause the new skin to crack and prolong the healing process. DO NOT play with it or touch, this can cause infection or irritation. DO wait until the piercing is fully healed before changing the jewelery.

HI there, Just to answer a few questions i had my nose pierced yesterday with a needle and it was fine.It didn't hurt it just felt like a small prick the only thing that hurt me a bit was having a curly stud put in to stop it falling out. A needle is better than a gun and a gun is being ruled out,this is because a gun causes the cartilage to shatter and lumps often form this happened to me when i had my top ear pierced a few years ago.I would definitely recommend a needle it is quick and painless you also get it in the exact place you want because a gun is big and blocks the view. Also a new needle is used for each person so it is completely hygienic.I would definatly recommend a needle and would have it done again.

hey everyone! over the past few years i'vegotten quite a few piercings includin ears, cartlidge and naval. ears are definately the easiest! piercing the top of your ear with a gun is totally normal.. it doesn't shatter anything... its like a normal earing! naval hurt alot! but it healed in a few months and now its cool. about 8 days ago i got my nose pierced with a gun and it didn't hurt at all!! it was less painful that ears... but it hurts more afterwards..(left side just looks better) and its stil pretty sore and a little swolen.. i had to take out the original stud cuz of school... and use a brissel... it works really well.. nose rings are really cool! just keep it clean with salt water.. and dont fiddle with dirty fingers. good luck guys! email me: love_cuddly@yahoo.com

hey guys i got my nose pierced a week ago and it looks and feels great. the lady who did it was great i went in and chose my jewlery and she told me to come back in 2 hours while she streilised the stud and equipment. she sat me down and clean the area and marked a dot with a pen and got me to chek 2 see if i was ok with the positioning. she then got me to tilt my head bak and close my eyes. i hardly felt the nedle go through i only felt a small sting wen it broke the skin then nothing. then she put the stud in and that stung a bit and my eye watered and i bled a bit but really it was no biggie and i hardly felt any pain at all i was so surprised it hert waayyyy less than gettin you ears and belly pierced. she then cleaned it up gave me a soda and sent me on my way. iv had no problems with it at all and its healing fine:)

hey i got my nose done bout 2 days ago and it was with a gun, it didn't hurt at all it was fine but bout a day later it started to swell up a wee bit and its a wee bit sore buts thats the way it goes. some people are different towards pain, i am one of those people who cant stand pain i had my belly done a few years back now and that didn't hurt one wee bit neither did the nose but after wards it was sore it still is my i recommend if ya one of those people who wna change it soon they dnt get a back on it but if ya dnt wna change it soon then i recommend a back on it i haven't got a bk on mine cos i wna change it asap but the only wee prob is it keeps falling out. mine fell out this morning he he but i got another one. But if ya want it done then go nd get it done nd it doesn't matter how ya get it done i got the gun nd so far fingers crossed its OK, but up to you though hope it helps you. And for those who got their belly's done i tell ya if ya got Ur belly done u will be fine on getting Ur nose done. Gd luck peoples love ya xx xxx

I had my cartlidge done over 10 years ago now with a gun, and to this day I still have problems with it. I can't sleep with a stud or ring in as it hurts like hell in the morning. I have gone for months without wearing anything in it though, and its never closed up, which is a good thing I guess. I've never had a cartlidge piercing with a needle so I can't compare, but I'm good friends with a few piercers who all say they would never use a gun for anything other than lobes. I had my nose pierced several years ago with a needle - of course its painful, but the pain is over quite quickly. I let it close up when I lost my stud, and when I had it re done in the same spot - through scar tissue - it hurt like hell and made me feel very ill. I've just had it re done after about 6 years, and again it did hurt but not as bad as the second time. The only advice I would give anyone is make sure you find somewhere reputable, go in a few times to make sure you get a good feel for the place, and if you feel uncomfortable with the person doing it at any time, say so and stop. Trust your instincts! Also, if you are underage and your parents wont give consent, wait it out. Don't attempt to pierce anywhere yourself, as its not worth it. If you hang on til your old enough and you still want it, at least you know you're doing the right thing!!! Li x

The studs used in the gun were designed to pierce the flesh of the ear, the nose is quite thick cartilage, and in some instances the gun fails to pierce the nose on the first attempt. A needle produces a very quick, short, sharp pain, but because the studs in the gun are quite blunt they are forced through the wound by brute force, this results in trauma to the wound and it can cause pain for several days afterwards. The whole reason for getting your nose pierced is for aesthetics, it is very hard to sometimes get the proper placement using the gun, and you have a very large unsightly stud in your nose. The needle method gives minimal pain, exact placement, and you can have a tiny stud inserted immediately. I have gotten 8 piercings on my ears (Although to of my ear piercings have closed)- all with a gun. It doesn't hurt! Your ear is red and feels like its throbbing after but only for the first day. I also pierced my nose by myself and it didn't hurt. I got really nervous but it did'nt hurt. I think that most people just need to get over their fear and they will be fine. I took out my nose ring and I still have a tiny bump. How do you get it to go away? My nose did get infected BUT thats because of how i handled it. I didn't use a sterillized needle (stupid I know! Unless you count cleaning it with Peroxide) and I didn't clean it the first few days. I also always played with it constantly considering I always had to take it out for school. It closed. Despite what I heard, I am considering doing it again myself. Do infected nose piercings really cause brain damage? :s I hope not! All I can really say is that (1. It doesn't hurt!) and that my ex. friend pierced her nose twice and it hardly got infected (she did it herself). I would never pierce my belly by myself though because I tryed once and it hurt!

It in fact IS blunt with a gun piercing. The point isn't nearly sharp enough to pierce safely, it's just the force of the gun pushing it through. and yes, cartilage shatters so easily. Piercing needles are HOLLOW meaning they cut away the space where jewelery should go. Any other needle like a sewing needle or a safety pin means your jewelery will be too tight in the hole leading to irritation and bumps. i totally agree with jill, guns are bad news for any piercing if you care about your body. you need to think properly if you want to get any piercing. talk to any professional about piercing guns (someone who's trained properly for 2/3 years and works in a specialized shop etc) and they will tell you how awful they are. If you look after it properly you won't get infections or bumps and will have no problems. does take a lot of time and care though and you need to bare that in mind before you commit to a piercing.

A needle is more painful than a gun, but "safer" since it can be sterilized more easily in general. As for stud or ring .... I would say it depends on you. If you've had problems with any other piercings (infection, long time healing, etc) it is better to go with the ring since it is easier to clean. The problem that getting a ring for you nose will probably mean the piercing will be placed lower than if it was a stud (unless you get quite a big ring which might look weird). Does it hurt? Yes. And the reason why I said before that a needle hurts more than a gun is because you first have to do the hole (hardly hurts) and afterwards you have to get the ring/stud in there -- and that is what hurts, since the area is already tender. I can only compare the pain level with the top of the ear cartilage, and the nose hurts less (in my case, rings in both). As for the questions about ears: yes, they hurt (specially with a needle), if you get "lumps" don't worry, they will go away in <6 months. Don't get it during the summer when you hair might get sweaty and greasy. And for both piercings, when thinking about which side please try to remember which side you usually sleep on!

hey everyone. my name's tracie. i'm15yrs old. my freshman year in high school [[last year]] i had pierced my labret. by myself. with a safety pin. in class. lol. and then i put a staple in it til i got home. i didn't want my mom to know so i kept taking it out and putting it back in..etc. that was a BIGG mistake. just about every time you take it out and put it back in, more bacteria went it. also, i didn't have any kind of cleaning solution. perfect, right? ha! i kno i'mfunny. anyways..so i let it close. my mom eventually found out. and she was mad. but i still let it close. anyways....i pierced my nose. about december 11th or so. i did it by myself. and my mom said it was okay. lol. she said if i wanted it done, i'dhave to do it myself cuz she wasn't gonna pay no $10+ for sum1 to stick a needle in my nose. haha. so i did it wit a regular [[18 gauge]] earring. and then put in my nose stud. ever since then..it's been healin..and it's perfect. the only advice i can give every1 is that it's sooooooooooooooooooo much better if you do NOT take it out at all. lol. also, i pierced my labret [[like i said]] and my belly button. and honestly, my labret hurt like hell, my belly button hurt pretty bad...and my nose=didn't hurt at all. all it is is cartilage. jus like your earlobe..it doesn't hurt at all. trust me. if anyone eva wanna chat, hit me up at xxmynameistraciexx@yahoo.com

GUN VS. NEEDLE: If you're going to get your nose pierced, do it with a needle. its heals much faster and is much safer. The guns cant be completely sterilized, so blood can splash on the gun and be transferred to you, along with whatever diseases it carries. PRO VS D.I.Y.: Go to a professional. I had my nose pierced and the stud fell out while I was sleeping and the hole was closed in the morning so I pierced it again myself. I thought it would be easier to do. It wasn't. SURGICAL STEEL VS SILVER: If you buy special earrings because you are allergic to surgical steel, then you should either not get the nose piercing, or get it with the surgical steel and then change it to a gold or silver stud after it's healed. Don't get it pierced with a silver one first, because it could tarnish, and get infected. There's a reason they use surgical steel. BUMPS: As for these "bumps" I've had the same problem and I've been told that they are called keloids by one piercer, and that they're granulomas by another. I'm not sure which is right. I tried hot compresses which did nothing, and Hydro cortisol cream which helped a bit. Just after I about gave up, it went away on its own. maybe it just took time. RE-PIERCING: If you get your nose pierced and it closes, re-pierce it on the OTHER side. Scar tissue makes it tougher and more painful the second time around in the same spot. I gathered this info from research online, pro piercers' advice, and my own personal experiences. Hope it helps.

ok so since most parents are lame and they wont let you peirce ur nose, you have to do it urself, and ud auctially be better off doing it urself. A gun makes a hole in ur nose which takes longer to heal and may leave a scar and an earing that i used or a needle makes a puncture wound, which is easier to heal and wont leave a scar. i did my nose myself with a simple ear ring and it looks good and when i take it out it the hole isnt noticeble. When i pierced it i didnt numb it with ice bc i dont think that works, all i did was disinfect the ear ring and just pushed it through my nose( twisting it while pushing it) tht prolly helps. but its not as painfull as it sounds, its barelly painfull at all. it bleeds a little but not alot, and its a little red for 24 hours ater piercing it. the redness and swelling shouldnt be very drastic if it is it might be infected so take it out , wash it and if its still red go to the doctor immidetly. but if its a normal piercing and its not infected it should be red and it should hurt alittle after piercing for 24 hours. also if the nose ring doesnt go all the way through to the other side , dont worry about it bc that just means its a puncture wound and it will heal faster when u deside to take it out. YOU DONOT HAVE TO PUT ALCOHOL ON THE PIERCING!! even though everyone says to put alcolhol on it NO you dont have to, alcolhol dries it out and hurts like HELL! neosporin is a good idea. but all i did was clean it out like twice a day ( taking the ring out) and cleaning my nose with hot water no i didnt use noesporin and it never got infected. it might be a good idea to put alcolhol on the ring when u take it out , let it dry and then wash all the alcolhol off( this gets rid of all the germs on the ring, and painless=] ) i also peirced my belly button , tounge, & ears myself (twice) they never got infected if u need advise or something on how to pierce ur tounge nose belly button or ears urself u can emIal me @ marina337242@yahoo.com hope it helps(:

Just replying about the pain.. I had my tongue done by a body piercer/tatt artist. He's pierced his wife from top to bottm. Yes, I said bottom. She said the nose piercing was the most painful out of ALL of her piercings.. She said your eyes water badly. but again it depends on your toleration to pain and yes, your nose bleeds.. at least 90% of the people who've had it done has had bleeding. My friend recently did hers and her b/f bumped hr nose lightly and it bled. but hey.. It's not stopping me! I want mine done.. and yeah left or right side is a personal opinion but out here in my small town yeah, you're considered lesbien if your left is pierced.. and you're gay if you're a male with his right ear pierced.. so yeah.. I'm going for the right lmao.. btw The woman who said it's the most painful piercing.. she was comparing it to her "genital" piercing =/

hey i just got my nose pierced yesterday and i kno wat its like, I've been there, u kno surfing the net on information and stuff, well i'm sure this will help u, ok i got my nose done with a needle because the guns can't be starilized as good as the needle can and with the gun they can't tell where there piercing it because its pretty big. it did hurt but only for a second it feels like getting your ear pierced if u have ever experienced that, u do have to take good care of it and i think that if anyone wants to get it done u should, dont b chicken, i was scared but it was rlly kewl and i'm glad i have it done. but anyway i hope i helped o yea and i would advise u to NOT pierce your nose yourself but, its your choice.

ok. for all of you out there, here is a simple answer to all of your questions. 1. do not pierce your nose at home. period 2. always get it done in a sterile, clean, friendly, and knowledgeable piercing salon. 3. always get piercings with a needle, unless you are just getting an earlobe done. 4. the pain is very bearable. mine just made my eyes well up a bit, and my nose feel sore for about half a day. other than that I'vebeen pain free 4. for those of you trying to pick a side, either one is great, but you might take into consideration the following things a.) traditionally (as in India and Pakistan) the nose is pierced on the left side. b.) what side do your bangs (if you have any) fall on your face? i would suggest getting it on the other side, so you can show it off more. anyways, i hope this post has been helpful to you. thank you!

I got my cartalidge piercerd with a gun 7 months ago at my hairdressers and it didn't hurt a bit. You have to be careful you don't tuck your hair behind your ear for a while because then it will hurt and becareful not to pust the back of the earing in too tightly because your eat sweels a tiny little bit for the first day. I reccemend if you want to get id done, go with it, but you may not beable to get it done exactly where you want it because of blood vessials. I'm getting my nose done in 20 days, and I'm totally freaked out weather gun or neadle is better. With a gun, do you just have a stright like earing pin in your nose? I really want the twistable studs but I don't think they can do that with a gun. Any advice? Thanks. xx

Guns = blunt. Blunt in the sense that it is not hollow at all. This means that the skin is pushed aside rather than being taken out like a hollow needle would. Think cookie cutter (leaving a hole) as opposed to poking some dough with a spoon (no hole) I prefer all my piercings to be done with a hollow needle. They all heal faster and have never been infected at all. When you use a gun you will have a lot more pain because not only was the earring ect rammed through the area you got pierced, all the skin that was displaced is trying to get back to where your earring is now. I don�t recommend you do any piercing yourself. I have done about 50% of on my own, I have only kept one. A licensed piercer will be able to get the �sweet-spots� (areas that hurt less) and they have knowledge of where to do the actually piercing to aide in healing and to make sure you don�t get any infections.

darksidedancer, it IS a blunt post being jammed through your nose, ear whatever. it may have a "pointy, sharp, triangular" end, but it does not compare to a real, sharpened needle. the needle is hollow and allows the pierced area to have any cut off cartilage to flow through, not be shattered within the nose. think about it. if you have ever gotten your cartilage pierced with a gun, does a bump appear? thats because your body is rejecting the shattered cartilage within your ear. the bump is a keloid and there really isn't much you can do about it. do you really want one of those on your nose? in my opinion, the needle is the way to go, for it allows a clean puncture, and no shattering occurs. believe me, i know what I'm talking about. i have 13 piercings and I'm getting more pretty soon.

....getting your nose done with a gun or with a needle will hurt ,depending on how thing or thick your nose may be. but thats really ok..it looks stunning after wards and the pain pays off..just make sure to use anti septic.. and that bulge behind your ear or in your nose is natural..behind it is usually dried up blood..thats why you have to clean it everyday. to yo i have 2 cartilage piercings on each of my ears..and it doesnt hurt when you get it with a gun..but it will hurt afterwards,..just make sure not to turn the stud around too much. and no..it didnt shatter my cartilage..AND NO IT IS NOT PAINFUL..its worth doing..it will take awhile to heal..but make sure to clean it everyday. =)

to yo- i'm 13 and i've had my cartilage pierced for around 9 weeks. Yes, it can shatter your cartilage, but it is not painful. It feels like how your 1st hole will feel, but takes a little longer. Some people say you cant feel it but you can, it doesn't hurt, but you feel it. Also for about a week after it may begin too feel sore but after that i just dont sleep on that side. Also if its like really red or swells, take it out immediatly !!! Also go for a gun, needle takes longer to go through and hurts. I got mine done at claires and everyone says no dont do it there, but they clean the gun right in front of you and the piercing posts are not blunt at the end.

im 19,I just got my nose done and ive had my cartilidge done. never use a gun unless its your earlobes, really. it splinters the cartilidge which can cause more scar tissue and it's more easily infected. i have a pretty high pain tolerance, but in my opinion the nose didnt hurt at all! i barely teared up and didnt bleed( some people bleed some people dont). a needle may hurt more because its slower, but in the long run its worth it. also suck it up and pay for a professional body piercer because they know what they are doing, with the risk of disease that comes with piercing and tattoos its just not worth it to skimp and go somewhere less reputable. before you get anything done do you research!

look, truth is both of my best friends got it with a gun and it heald well. the only big problem is the hole is very big after it heals!!!! i mean, think of the earring they put on your ear at first it's huge!!!!!!!! so it's a really big hole at first. also you shouldnt take it off or play with it at all for the first week or so or else it starts forming lumps and causing you more pain..so juat let it be. also disadvanteg is big earring there on the nose it's not pretty at all and with a normal 18g needle you can get perfect results once youve done it.. also it feels a lot better for the first days! needles are safe and almost painful and a gun hurts very bad although you can get over the pain and have a good looking nose piercing later on. anyway the cheaper way is a gun or by yourself but i don't recommend doing it by yourself becuase you relly dont know whta to do. also if you feel that this whole piercing thing is just not woring- take it off!!!! don't be ashamed because your friends laughs a while if your uncomfortable with it you should take it off and if you see it startes to give you wierd signs that are not typcally you take it off immidetly. any cartilage piecing is risky so consider all facts and do what ever feels good to you...! and about parents: they'll get the idea and shut up about after you explain (not shout) and the worste case scenerio is you taking it off, and doing it again after the time that they will be ok with it.

I had my nose pierced about a month ago at Burley Fish. It was great actually. I freaked out a little bit before hand because my friend told me it was the worst... but I thought it went better than my navel and my ears. I cried out of the eye I was pierced on, but it was to be expected. The woman used a needle, and I haven't had any problems so far. I'm 19, so I didn't have to worry about what my mom said, but she was okay with it... just warned me it wouldn't work in the business world. Times are changing though, so who knows... Anyways, I love it, and I am definitely happy with the results. Needles are way safer though, they can guide it through better... and it took about 5 seconds all together (piercing, guiding the new ring and pulling out the needle. Just keep it clean.

I got my nose done with a needle about 8 months ago at a proper piercing place. The pain wasn't amazingly bad but yeah it did hurt quite a bit, although as soon as the man put the stud in, the pain stopped. It only hurt when I touched it, so there was no stinging pain for ages after. HOWEVER, I then knocked my nose stud out (by accident) and after constantly having to re-Peirce it with a normal earing, i decided to let it close up but now i want it done again but basically my question is; Does it hurt MORE if you get it done once its already closed up from the previous time? My friend told me apparently it is meant to be much more painful due to the skin not being completely healed. thanks. x

One: Guns will break your nose. A receiving tube and a needle is your best bet. Two: Know the piercer or at least get to know them. If they are not as "pierce experienced" as you may think, they could paralyze half of your face. Nose piercings CAN do that. Three: Yeah, it hurts. A needle in any part of your body hurts. Breathing, focusing, and not thinking about it helps.(some people have a high pain tolerance, though.) Four: Not sure if the right side or left side means you're gay? I actually never heard of that, honestly, so I dont think it matters. Five: Sometimes it bleeds, sometimes it doesn't. Six: Don't get on here and ask if you are a lesbian because you have a best friend. This is about NOSE RINGS! I'm not trying to be mean. I just thought the best way to put out there what I wanted to say was to be to the point about it. Honestly though, the points I want to stress more are one and two. Please don't use a needle gun. The force of it will break your nose. Believe me, it broke my sisters and about 5 other people I know. I used to work at a tattoo shop (I'm more of a lip,eyebrow,tongue,belly button, tattoo person- but I did watch all the time) and when they allowed guns, we had to make the customer sign a sheet allowing us to basically break their nose (or so I think). It didn't always happen, but would you want to risk it? No. Also, since there's alot of nerves in your nose, you could have half of your face paralyzed. My aunt's best friend decided that even though she was older, she wanted to get a piercing on her nose. She now can not smile right, eat food right, and she sometimes cant blink on her left side. Just be safe when getting any piercings that could do this. Much love to yall<3

Just take some aspirin and crush up the pills and add some water to make it a sort of paste. Apply that to the nose piercing and leave it for 10 minutes and wash it off. That should take the bump away.

honestly, i work in a salon where we do nose pierecings, and ive had mine done 3 times due to my own stupidity, and i switched sides from one to the other and back again. it's not a big deal, one side doesnt mean youre "straight" or "gay" or whatever, it's a personal preferance.

Actually, nose peircings should not be done with a gun because it will cause more scar tissue afterwards, and will delay healing drastically. recently, piercings with guns have all been outlawed except for using the guns for earlobes and thats it. although using a needle seems like it would be more painful, its not and will really be to your advantage in the long run.

I pierced my nose myself 2 weeks ago with a needle, it wasnt that bad, it doesnt seem to be infected, i did it with a clean needle and have a new clean nose ring in and clean it everyday, i dont recomend doing it yourself because its not for everyone,and u never know what could happen, but doing it myself saved me 40 bucks for having some stanger hammer a needle in my nose!

It's best not to do it yourself because your brain and your nose use the same blood vessels, and if you use an unsterilised pin that could be bad. Then infection could spread to your brain and cause brain damage. I'm not trying to scare anyone, i'm just warning you. That's why it's best to get it done professionally.

i just did my nose yesterday and i love it...although i am now a bit worried that it will get infected, but if a needle has to be pushed through my nose id rather do it than some other person...it didn't hurt to bad

I got my cartlidge pierced last year and passed out (even though I was feeling nauseated before I got it done). It didn't hurt but I am wondering if everyone thinks I will be able to stand the nose piercing....

I think you should go to a body piercer becasue they know exactly what there doing (at least a clean and strille one will) I got an industrial body piercing and It hurt but I could handle it. I just got my nose pierced by a professional with a 16-gauge needle. I've had my labre and lip pierced, and I'll say nose piercing's a little more painful, but it won't make you freak out. My eyes watered a bunch, but that was about the worst part. I have just realized right now it's not a good idea to drink soda right after a nose piercing stings Definately go to a reputable person, though, because you don't want to go to someone grody and end up with brain damage because they did the piercing wrong (yeah an infection from a nose piercing can cause brain damage).

i got my nose pierces just before christmas. my friend did it with a gun. it just does not seem to heal. should i let it grow back and get it done with a needle? also i was wondering if it could be because i am alergic to the nose studs. i have to have nickel free, lead free earrings so does that mean i need a special nose ring too?

I have really been buggin about gettin my nose pierced. I hear a gun is good and I hear it's bad. I hear a needle is good and I hear it's bad. I have no idea of what to believe. It's kinda scarin me though, cause it's on my face, and I don't wanna have a scar for life. Everyone I talk to says something different. It's very confusing.

cartlidge didnt hurt me at all cuz i got it dne wih a gun.. if you dont clean it it gets infected soo easy and you get like a huge bump on the back of yuor ear filled with gross stuff. mine got so weird i had to take it out.. adn a year later i got it pierced adn i ttake care of it now and its been completely perfect. i think guns are faster and it would hurt so much les.s.. im gettin my bellybutton in a couple days and im freking out..? any helpful words..?

You are all stupid. Getting a piercing done with a gun is not the best way to go. Especially with your nose. Its not 100% safer or whatever crap your trying to sell these people. Its the WORST thing to do. Needle is much safer and it takes maybe 5 seconds at the MOST, and doesn't' hurt. I have mine dun, so don't spaz. In my opinion, I think that all piercings should be done with a ring, because you can clean it faster and more efficiently. But it all depends on how fast you heal.
