I have a 1997 Plymouth Breeze, I just recently had new timing belt, water pump, radiator hoses, thermastate, 8 valves all done to the car. Well I noticed that at times when I get out of the car the overflow is boiling. The temp gauge never goes above normal and it does not loose coolant.
I am at a lose. A friend said that newer cars do that. Someone else told me that it is a bad radiator cap.
What is the deal? Is it something to worry about?

I would suspect the cap on the overflow tank. This is essentially the radiator cap as a lot of newer cars have sealed radiators. typically the overflow tank should be rated for a low pressure load, somewhere in the range of ten PSI or so.  The pressure helps to suppress boiling. An old/worn cap will not be as able to sustain pressure and could be causing the boiling. This should be cheap and easy to check. I would think ~20$ at local auto shop for a new cap.

Also, be certain that antifreeze is present and it is not straight water in your cooling system.  In addition to freeze protection antifreeze suppresses boiling and prevents corrosion. Antifreeze should be used at all times.

Some amount of boiling in the overflow tank may however be normal for your car.  As long as the coolant is filled to the appropriate level, the temp gauge stays normal, and the boiling is not violent/spilling coolant out of the overflow I personally would not be worried about it.

I have a 1997 Breeze and mine will do this exact same thing. I is nothing to worry about. this is normal for these vehicles. I it just the coolant draining back into the over flow tank. Its not actually boiling , its just the noise it makes when going back into the recovery tank.

The boiling the car be if you have a bad radiator. The radiator could be dirty on the inside and doesn't let the water flow, which will cuause it to throw into the overflow tank. I install a radiator in my car and the water doesn't boil any more.  You could also your radiator clean from the inside by a radiator shop. You are suppose to change your radiator every 100,000 miles or have clean.

I also have a 97' breeze that does the exact same thing. I don't think it's a problem, it's been doing it for over 100k and I've had no problems.
