I heard that you are able to use Cat5e for data and telephone on the same home run. I was told to use pins 4 &5. Is this possible? and if so will it affect the data in anyway?? Thanks for any info...

Your advice is correct. Pair 1 (pins 4/5) is used for telephone. Pairs 2 and 3 (pins 3/6 and 1/2 in 568A system used internationally, pins 1/2 and 3/6 in 568B system common in the US). Pair 4 (pins 7/8) are spare. Data performance should not be degraded if due attention is paid to terminations. Same applies to CAT5 too.

Johns is right... you might technically be outside of the specification, but it will work.
I know that L-com makes splitter boxes for that kind of application, even
