Recently when my male chi goes # 2 he screeches because the end coming out is bigger than his anus. He only does this when he goes # 2.

He may need a stool softener, I advise taking him to the vet.  Has his diet changed?  If he never did this before, but now he is, something has changed.  He may be holding it because it hurts to go, so when he absolutely has to, it's that much worse because it's hard.

My siamese cat has the same problem. "stool softner" is the exact same thing as flavored vaseline! My vet told me to mix a little vaseline with wet food. It usually does the trick, or 100% pure pumpkin. I freeze the pumpkin into little cute shaped ice cubes... If the poop is starting to stick on the bum, bring him to the vet, the may have to express his anal glands. In other words, put a finger in the bum to pop the gland.
