I have a 1986 Chevy Cavalier and when it is really cold outside it won't start.  It has a little sign on the visor that says have the parking brake on if you try starting it.  Does anyone else know of this little "trick" of starting a car.  It does have an electric fuel injector also.

TRY GETTING A BETTER BATTERY WITH ABOUT 1000 CRANKING AMPS AND AS MANY COLD CRANKING AMPS AS POSSIBLE. YOUR BATTERY WILL LOSE POWER WHEN ITS COLDER. ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR USING 5W 30 OIL. DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE AND HOW COLD IT GETS YOU MIGHT WANT TO SWITCH TO MOBILE 1 FULL SYNTHETIC OIL.

I have a 1990 Chevy Cavalier. It has a throttle body. Don't use starting fluid!
Get a strong battery, get a good tune-up, don't use synthetic oil because you want the oil to work with the cold. 10W30 should work anywhere. When it's cold it will be 30 weight. When it's hot it will be 10 weight. I use Castrol 10W40, I live in Portage, Indiana, about 30 miles west of Chicago, and I never had a problem with my car starting yet!

It could be your oil thinking up on really cold days, which enables your car to start and function correctly

cavaliers as well as any low end chevy suck big time  delphi makes the cheapest parts and they will go bk if chevy doesn't bail them out.dph $2.50 per share go look!!!gm will have to pay  $6b or they liquidate. if dph delphi liquidates then gm is out of business of making chevys.

the oil has nothing to do with it its an 86 so u want to use 10w30 because 5w30 is only for when the car is new and the engine is new
