my husband found a 2in gecko at work that came in on a shipment from louisiana. a friend at university of missouri helped me i.d. it as a roughtail gecko. we would like to keep him. he has been with us for 2 weeks.i know they have established themselves along the shipping routes of galveston, tx and are not indigenous. he is eating small crickets and appears to be healthy. i would appreciate any info on this lizard including what kind of climate he is used to living in. he can climb the walls of the plastic container we have him in. thanks!

We lived in New Orleans for 8 years.

I looked up a roughtail gecko on
http://wfscnet.tamu.edu/tcwc/herps/herps.htm
but this looks like the skin is rougher than the geckos we saw (all over our house).

But we did have a lot of geckos of some kind. I think they were leaf-toed geckos. Picture at:

In the wamrer months (most of the year) we saw them on the walls near the porch lights looking for unsuspecting bugs. I'm not sure what happened to them in the winter (what little we had), but I don't remmeber seeing them in winter. They like warmth and a fairly humid.
