Gould recommends running no more than
480' of #10 wire to a 1-1/2HP pump.
As a licensed Master Electrician, I would
suggest you run #8 copper to the pump head
and #10 down the well to the pump.

I'm looking at the Franklin Electric Application data. you can go 510' on 10 so you are VERY close to max. You never said if the Pump is a 2 wire or 3 wire? If it a 2 wire with a Junction box to switch from Submersible cable to Under ground cable then You need to run #8 If it is a 3 wire you could get by running #8 to the top of the well then #10 down hole. That is very risky, I have always been taught that you run one size wire the whole way. If it were my install I would use a #8 the whole way.

i agree with frankf.  you need to take into account voltage drop over such a long distance, so going with the larger gage wire in the first run (from the main breaker to the well top) is your best bet.

6 square mm copper cable is sufficient to    1-1/2 single phase submersible motor.

My experience has shown me very little voltage drop in 500'. # 10 will work great. Your pump should pull around 11 amps at full load. #12 will work but, I would use #10. Then you won't have to worry about temperature rating of the insulation.

I would stick with 10 myself
