i have a 1987 new yorker 2.2 turbo when the outside temp get to or below freezing my car will start but as soon as i put it in gear it stalls no matter how long i let it warm up. what could it be?

It's possible that you have condensation (water) in your gas tank - try adding some alcohol that will mix with the water and cure the problem.  It's available in any auto parts store and even other stores, but the same alcohol can be purchased at a pharmacy for less money.  The type of alcohol is methanol, one brand name at an auto store is "Heet", but I'm sure there are many others.

You can avoid condensation by keeping your gas tank full -  the condensation occurs when there is considerable air in the tank.  For this reason, planes are supposed to be refueled before they are parked.
