Do you think that breeding a Rottweiler and a pit bull would create a different breed? And would it be good or bad? Because I'm debating on doing so!

If you do not know for sure then don't do it. If you find buyers for your pups before hand then it isn't as bad but, as I'm sure you know, there are plenty of unwanted mutts out there. I wouldn't do it if I were you but I'm not. However please make the desision you think would be best for you, the female, the pups, and the buyers.

I have a American Pit and German Rottweiler mix myself and I would have to say that it is the best dog I have ever had.  So if you want to breed your dogs, go for it.  I don't think you would regret it.

No, it won't create a different breed of dog.  What you will get is a mongrel.  A breed can only be considered a true, "pure" breed if it breeds true in successive generations ie if you breed two APBTs together you will get APBT puppies.  This is not to say you won't get cracking puppies out of this match, they just won't be purebred! But like the first reply said, don't rush into breeding as you could be left with puppies no one wants.

I have a 3 year old pit bull/rottie mix.  She's the love of my life.  So I had to post.  I agree with some of the earlier responses, mainly that there are alot of healthy, loving "mutts" that get put down for lack of anyone who'll give them a chance.  In other words, keep the population down.  Don't breed unless you have to.

I have a 2-3 yr old pitbull/rottie mix that i got from the pound 17 months ago. He is the most beautiful dog I ever laid eyes on. Besides being gifted with looks he is chiseled, extremely intellectual and quick minded. There is no downnfall with my dog dutch but sometimes i wish he were female because he has massive amounts of energy in his tank. But he had never bit agrressively, he is always licking and most of all, he is really a 75 lb. lap dog as he loves to get pet and receive attention as much as possible. For all those uptight, scared americans out there who fear when they see pitbulls or rotties or mixes out there they should maybe take some time and build a relationship with a dog like these before pinning a nickname on them like beast or dangerous. Because these dogs are not agressive they only are if u get some thugs training them to be that way. Sort of like a human being. If u beat the crap out of your child and fill its life with neglect and negative impulses then how do u think that child is gonna grow up. Bottom line I love my dog. He is better than my frinds. The truth.

i have a 2 year old male apbt/rottweiler mix named buster. he looks mostly like a black mask fawn colored pit. he is extremely well behaved and has shown no signs of food, animal or people aggression. he is great with my 2 daughters ages 8 and 5. a giant lap dog is what i call him. hes full of energy and loves to play and be loved on. there is a breed of dogs not recognized by the ukc or akc called a detroit rock dog or just rock dog. they are apbt rottie mixes-no they dont breed true. but they serve their purposes wether for house pet or guardian etc. excellent temperments and disposition. strong enough to work,guardetc.. to me this is the best mix in the world

I have an 11 month old APBT/Rott and he is the sweetest dog you could ever want.  He's just a big baby (90 LBS. and growing).  He follows me around everywhere, sleeps with me and just loves to be in anyones company.  The only problem is that he chews stuff up like there's no tomorrow.  I thought that he might be aggressive, but he wouldn't hurt a fly.

no doubt.. i wanted to mix my rotty and pitty, but i had to get my male pitty fixed cuz he was going insane when my rotty was in heat.  literally trying to bite through his cage to get out at her :) .. i wanted to breed them, and had many buyers, but it just didnt happen..  a 80lb bluenose pitty, and a 110lb german rotty.  would have been nice, i say breed away, as long as you have some buyers in the first place.

I have a 6 yr old pitt/rotty mix. He is a very loving dog but very territorial. He shows no aggression towards people inside the house or out and about on walks and so forth but if you come in his territory in or around his kennel his is very aggressive if he does not know you. He is very hyper and needs alot of attention but I wouldn't give him up for the world. He is the love of my life. He is a 102lb baby.

Let me explain the definition of the original bandog 50% American Pit Bull Terrier/50 Mastiff. The father would be a game pit and the mother would ideally be a Napoleon Mastiff. Now days people breed bandogs by crossing Rotties and pits  with various Mastiff breeds.  In a Rottie /pit equation were is the mastiff. Not to say that it would not make great pups but it still would not be a breed they would be just another statistic when they ended up at the shelter because no one wanted them.

A clue for people that have none. YES, there is a breed thats genral make up is a cross between the Apbt and the Rott its called the American Mastiff and not to get it confused with the original american mastiff they call it the Panja American Mastiff. Heres the website you can compare ur pictures to their's and you might in fact have created a panja. http://dogbreedinfo.com/americanmastiff.htm

An American Panja mastiff Is not just a rot/pit mix it is a breed that is a cross between theses and several other large breeds including the Bull Mastiff,so if you cross an APBT and a Rottweiler no it would not be a breed. Thats like saying if you cross a terrier and bulldog you'll get an APBT.  While in the beginning bull dogs and terriers were bred to create this breed over the years other breeds were used to develop and perfect the breed into what we know today.

Hi there. I am in England, and over here if both dogs are 100% purebred, not necessarily registered, then your puppies would be crossbreeds. A mongrel or 'mutt' is a dog which has various breeds within its blood.I have a female rottweiler which I bought when she was 8 weeks old, she is now 2. A couple of months ago, we bought an English mastiff dog from our local rescue centre. Unfortunately, holly came into season and now we are anxiously awaiting the birth of our crossbreed puppies. This was not a planned pregnancy, and we were extremely careful and had kept them apart, my 15 year old son had different ideas however etc... I will be extremely careful of where my puppies end up, and all prospective owners will be thoroughly vetted and questioned before I allow them to have a puppy. All prospective owners will also be given the reassurance that if they ever become unable to look after the dog, It will always have a home here with us. Before you consider breeding your dogs, can you give this guarantee and keep it? There are many people here in england, who just want some dog that makes them look tough, then when they can't cope with it, they kick them out and the dog ends up in a shelter. I am determined that will not happen to one of my dogs. There are too many dogs that end up in shelters, or worse. Although I am sure that the pups will be absolutely gorgeous, unless you know lots of reputable, decent people who would want one for life, or, if you are like many people here in England and don't give a damn what happens to the pups once they're gone (and I'm sure you're not otherwise you wouldn't have asked the question), then DON'T do it.

Don't wast your time on a mix that already exists.  Study the history of the Rot, Pit & Mastiff, especially the Panja.  Also PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't create anymore unwanted half breeds.  I work @ a shelter & see so many Pits & some Rots come in because they are unwanted or strays.  They sit on 'Pit Bull Death Row' if no one claims them or adopts them.  We unfortunately can't always keep them kenneled & they get put down.

Sorry for the downer but its true.

Hi, We have a 9 month old rottie/pitt bull named buddee that is the most affectionate dog we have ever had. We resuced him from the pound and it was the best decision we have ever made. Buddee is great with new people and children. He must be the center of attention when my fiancee and I are home together. Buddee has the most energy that I have ever seen in a dog. Exercise is the best thing to calm the dog. For eveyone that fears the worst of these dogs...beware you might meet one that licks you to death. (hardly possible for all of the literal people)

I have a 6 year old APBT/Rottie mix. He's brindle in color, about 75-80 lbs. and extremely playful! He loves attention, and has never, ever shown any aggression towards people, strangers or otherwise. On the other hand, there have been a couple very unlucky male dogs to venture into my back yard, and they never got a chance to leave, as all of them were killed. These dogs are not mean, or killers, thats just nature. I would have to say that Buster, my dog, is the best dog i have ever owned.

Are you a breeder? By that I mean are you willing to invest lots of money into health certificates for your dogs.  Hip certification from a REAL veterinarian etc?  Are you willing to take the puppies back when, after six months or even two years down the line the person(s) who bought the Puppy from you cannot keep it anymore or will you just let it go on to get euthanized?  Are you a person who just thinks it would be "COOL" to have a mix like this?  If you are just filling your own personal gratifications then DON'T DO IT!!! Go and adopt one that already exists and see if you like it.  That way you haven't created a bunch of puppies that may or may not go to good homes, and will only take up state money and our taxes to house and euthanize later on.

I see a lot of individuals on this forum making a distinquishment between American and German Rottweilers.  There IS NO DIFFERENCE, only this:  If a dog is born in Germany then that is where it is from, if born in U.S. Then it will be American born.  There is no difference in the genes or blood of a purebred, pedigreed, Rottweiler!  A lot of breeders use the "German" label as a means to add $$$$ and hype to thier particular dogs.  Technically speaking there is no difference between a dog born in Germany or a dog born in America; except maybe the Atlantic ocean.  The differences in physical appearance of Rotts is due to idiot breeders who are not selective and very picky about maintaining the true form and stock breed of the Rottweiler.  It has NOTHING to do with country of origin.  So get informed and do some research on the topic!!!

To answer the very first question which was: "Do you think that breeding a Rottweiler and a pit bull would create a different breed?

The answer is no man...lol. You cant create a new breed by just mixing two existing breeds! Creating a breed takes years and to start off, you need to know what you are breeding for. You need to have a standard and even for professionals with many, many years in the dog world is not easy. Breeds dint just happen because someone mixed to dogs and boom! you have a new breed. No way. no way and no way can you create a new breed just like that.

To answer the second question which was: "And would it be good or bad? Because I'm debating on doing so!"

No one here can tell you if is good or bad. First because we do not know what you are looking for.

For example: are you looking to get a dog with the gameness of the pittbull and the size of the rotty? mmm lets see....What the gameness of the rotty and the size of the pittbull......would that be good for you? Will you love and care for the dogs?

If you will love the dog regardless of the outcome? go for it. I is exiting to try something like that. But what will you do if you do not like the outcome?

Just think about it and make your choice. Breeding dogs to a standard is a serious business that takes years. But you may get lucky this one time....who knows.

I guarantee these sterotypes are here for a good reason.. In fact im not kidding when i was in highschool 85% of the people i knew fought there pitbulls and any other "bully" dog they had(There were quite a few students who did this) not saying they are all right just saying there IS a reason they are there.. too many people in Florida fight there dogs.. to tell u the truth Dade county bans ownership over any dog that is so much as PART pitbull.. if it looks like a pit they take it and give u 24 hours to prove it isnt so much as a mutt or they put it to sleep.. just too many dog fights going on or they are trained to hurt people

not saying that this mutt shouldnt exist.. my boyfriend wants to get me one.. In fact im here looking for breeders of these dogs but plz dont accuse us americans of being whimps about it .. just some of us have seen too much tramatic insidents with these breeds to be quiet fond of em..

sure there are exceptions but i personally prefer an out of state if not out of country breeder cause i know at least in south florida if u own a pit or a rot.. u DONT want the offspring..

Like they say... a dog is as good as it's owner. if you teach him to be sweet and gental, thats what you'll get, but teach him to be aggressive and you will have problems!

I am the proud owner of a pitt bull/rottie mix.  His name is Harley and he is the love of my life.  He is about 11 months old now, and my only complaint is that he loves my shoes...to eat them that is.  He's the only male in the house so he has a fierce bark, but he has never been agressive.  He's the biggest baby, and thinks he's still the size of a puppy.  Harley also has great social skills.  He can play with just about any dog and isn't too rough, he even loves puppies, and is great with children.  He just wants to love and be loved.  Not to mention he is so beautiful.  I think I lucked out to be honest.  So, i think they're great dogs to breed, but as said earlier, its not a good idea unless you know you have buyers, because they're too good of dogs to end up in a shelter or worse.

I have a 14 month old rottie/pitbull mix and we love him to death..he is amazing with kids and thinks our little 9 lb terrier is his mommy..he gets along extremely well with other dogs and cats...he's very laid back and quiet..I was actually surprised because he shows no aggression towards people or other animals..now if only we could make him understand he is to big to hop up in your arms and sit on your lap..lol

I have a pittbull/rott mix and she is the greatest dog me and my boyfriend could have ever asked for. Right now is 6 months old, and the only thing is she likes to chew on things...so if you get this breed make sure you get lots of chew toys!!! She is so loving and likes to cuddle...this is the best mix/mutt you could ever have.

Im from England and have a pit/ rot cross and i have to say its one of the loveliest iv had.  it doesnt get along well with other male dogs (especially labradors!) but is perfect with kids and adults alike. the only thing id say is that mixing these breeds makes a big, protective dog, that without traing, could be very dangerous. but with the right treatment, would make a great pet.

I am experienced dog owner of many years and breeds, and one of my dogs recently died, and a friend, has found a Rottweiller Pit Bull mix, age 18 months---I've not seen she?he---I'm a little afraid to see her as I of course may fall for her---she was abandoned by people who left a house to a developer, and he does not want to bring her to the pound, and is looking for a family.  Rotweillers seem to have such a good reputation once you get beyond the sensationalist headlines, but the pit bulls I"m less sure of---I have two old labrador retrievers, and kids are older teenagers, also loving and responsible with dogs---so I really don't know how this dog was raised and treated, but the person who has her says it is very sweet.  Do you think it's safe to bring her into home on a trial basis, and see if she's safe and "trainable?"

We owned one once (9yrs ago).  He was pretty mean!!  He had both dog aggression and people aggression. We didn't use him in the breeding program because of his temperment.  He was one of the best looking dogs, but you couldn't touch him.

I met his mother once, and I know where he got most of his aggression from.  You can see him at www.intimidatormolossers.com  if you click on the history page.

I have seven dogs ranging from a miniature long-haired daushand to small terriers to a small poodle mix to an american pitbull/rottweiller mix.  My BIG GIRL (the pitbull/rottweiller) loves her housemates, is very protective of her home, is a lapdog and a lover.  I let people know when they come into my home to not let Big Girl think they are afraid of them. She growls, or barks... they do what I ask... she calms down... NO PROBLEM.  She never leaves my side... GREAT DOG!!!

I live in the country , and have 2 rotts, an alpine mastiff, and a rott/pitt mix that stays inside, not sure why, he hates all animals. but loves my 4 kids and wife , we just have to be very carefull about takeing him outside , the other dogs have to be kenneled.

A lot of Pitbulls that people own are mutts. usually one of the grandparents or great-grandparents is a Boxer, Bullmastiff, or Bulldog.  I don't know many people who actually have papers for their dog.  It really doesn't matter though, who the hell needs registration when your dog is only for bitting the f*** out of intruders.

i actually have a 2 year old female rottweiler, "purebreed" she was bred with a neo mastiff, the pup's that she had were incredible, i had to keep 3 of them, anyhow the, guy that had the NEO, had a pit/rotty mix, the dog took most of the pit's personality, quite an aggressive dog, i have had rotty's all my life now with my 5th and i personaly think that mix dog's should be left to mix dog's, mutt with mutt, not big strong dog's like that, now dont get me wrong i love both breed's but i dont think that those 2 should make pup's, there was an intent on my breeding of rottweiler/neo mastiff, anyhow i dont mean to sound like a hipocrit, but that's my opinion for what its worth

I have heard that pit bulls are mutts... I really do not know for sure though.

Anyways, I recently adopted a rotti/shepherd from the SPCA. She, like many other dogs, end up there because no one wants them. I cannot see the real point to breeding puppies... I mean, yes if they are 'purebred' but you're just paving the way for more 'mutts' to come after these are born and then what? I say don't breed. Leave it for someone who is experienced. Don't breed more dogs for the shelters.

Greetings, if you cross a Pit/Rott, you are creating a mix-not a new breed. Creating a new breed takes many years of selective breeding. My suggestion is to find a pit/rott mix, don't breed one. It's alot of work to whelp, train and find good owners plus immediately spay/neuter these puppies so it's not mutts begatting mutts. If you have the time, you can breed but there are too many unwanted dogs that could be happy in your home or other friends homes.

Also, as a professional trainer who works with very aggressive dogs, keep in mind that most aggression shows up between 12-36 months.  Bull breeds do have a tendency towards aggression. Rott'sdefinitely are a guardian breed, and as always solid temperment and good breeding makes all the difference.

Also for the record, American Mastiffs not Panja Mastiffs but American Mastiffs are mixed with Anatolian Shepherds for the dry mouth.  A friend of mine owns one that came from a breeder, bred for drymouth.  Looks just like a mastiff with a cleaner jawline. Pit/Rott mixes fall into the bandog category which can be a mixture of various bull breeds.

Pitbulls are truly Am Staff * bull dogs -longer and rangier than AmStaffs but there is a generalization thay the term pitbull refers to the general category of Amstaff, Colby fighting line, Wallace line and basically anything Pitbully.

And finally, Marcus just so you know, the original breeds are dogs like the Mastiff (Roman Mastiff originally), Pharaoh Hounds, Saluki  etc. are thousands of years old are the true baseline breeds.  Therefore, pitbulls, retrievers, lhasa'sare all mixes if you want to get down to brass tacks.  Just making the statement that Pitbulls are a mixed breed just makes you sound like a simpleton.

I have worked with many dogs and many breeds, I train, rehab and work with all kinds of dogs - I always love to learn more and  yes I have my favorites (I love bull breeds) but I always judge the breed and not the deed. I wish more people would do the same.

I have a 4 yr. old pitt/rott mix. She is a loving and loyal pet and i could not love her more. But....she can be agressive if people enter her territory or seem threatening to her family members. I think she is beautiful with a fawn colored coat and white muzzle and white feet.  She also has one of the cutest faces ever!  To the question of breeding....only if you have loving, responsible people to be owners.  These dogs are extremely bonded with their owners and need someone who is going to love and keep them.  Not shift them from home to shelter to home. My girl ( Peaches ) is a joy in my life and I  would recommend this mix to anyone.

I also own a Pit/Rott mix. Her name is Tutunda and she is by far the best dog I've ever had. Not only is she beautiful, she is smart as hell!! For some reason while I was raising her, I would always nod my head when I asked her to do something...some how she aquired this action. It is absolutley hilarious to watch her actually answer a ? !!
She also talks!! Her favorite thing to say is "OW" for some reason, I guess she hurt herself alot. In answer to the question stated above, I totally think it is worth breeding a Pit with a Rott anyday. Especially,if the parents are incredibly smart, like my dog!! Peace to all the Pit and Rott owners out there!!

i had a pit/rott mix in conneticut. Up there they were called rottwoods/rockwoods whatever. But her name was blaze she looked just like a Rott but she was solid rust color all over docked tail and beatiful.. Honestly i can also say she was the best dog i ever had out of many (pits, doberman, rotts, mixed) she was the best very loyal and affectionate. And very muscular. One day she was off lead and started chasing a cat, right when she crossed the street a car literally ran over her and dragged her for about 3/4 of a mile. she had a spiked collar on and all u could see was sparks from her collar scrapping the concrete. after that she got up and ran around my apt complex twice and cam and sat by me breathing really hard. and that was it she was back to normal./ i took her to vet and no injury, just a permanent scar right above her elbow. She was an awesome dog, i would recommend one to anyone. if u have any mix puppies for sale email me hartford2miami@yahoo

I have to disagree with most of you.  I have a rott/boxer mix and she is the best.  Her name is Nelly and she is about 4.  Anyone who sees her just falls in love.   She has the speed and jumps of a boxer with the strenth of a rottweiler.  Mixed breeds usually have less health problems and live longer.  Not to mention they are definatly original.  It really all comes down to if you are a follower or a leader.  Any mixed breed that you love is priceless.  Right?

We should post mixed rottweilers on the web.  Can anyone set this up, let us know.

a Pit bull is not a Mutt.  A mutt is a cross breed dog with no parent being purebred.  Mutts can be beautiful dogs, depending on the litter.  I recently acquired a cross between a full blood Rott and a full blood Pit bull.  What I have is a beautiful and loyal  Devil Dog named Sadie.

Don't do it. We have one now that we took in as a rescue after she killed the family cat.  The dog has been nothing but loved and cared for, but is both dog and cat aggressive.  Both breeds are naturally prone to aggressive behavior. What you're oh,so casually considering creating is a potential mauling machine, as you have no way of knowing until the dog is older.  We now have to either euthanize this dog or find a home far, far away from other living animals, and possibly children as she progresses up the food chain for amusement.

I suppose it's pointless to ask why on earth you would indiscriminately breed dogs when there are so many unwanted dogs in the world now...but, who really cares what happens to the puppies once the money changes hands?  I'm sure you've paid your vet hard-earned money to have both dogs immunized and checked for genetic defects that may be specific to the two breeds you are planning to mix.  I'm sure your puppies will inherit all the positive qualities of both breeds, not the inherent (inborn) traits that they are notorious for, such as locking jaws on their victims, aggressiveness, high energy, tenacity, and over-protectiveness of everything from their people to the space the occupy.

All dog breeds have pros and cons. The most important factor is to breed for disposition, quality, and the betterment of the breeds.  Mixing them is not creating a new breed.  Mixing them is simply irresponsible when there are millions of dogs euthanized every year.  Not only am I an advocate for proper breeding (I don't breed my pets), but I am all about neutering.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with mongrels...but when you breed two notoriously aggressive breeds, you double the chances you will end up with aggressive dogs.

I have a pit bull x labrador x rotty and she is one of the most gorgeous dogs i have had the pleasure of owning or dealing with.  Her mother was a rotty and the father a pitty x lab, at 6 1/2 months she already weighed 35kg and is jet black with the typical white markings you see on pit bulls.  She is a true gentle giant but they do need a lot of work and certainly aren't the type of dog for everyone.  With such crosses it is vital that you already have responsible homes for the puppies to go to before you breed.

Personally i wouldnt.Because everyone knows that a pitt and rott'sare 2 of the most high rated temper dogs to change on their owners over all dogs. And stop to think, 2 of the worlds highest rated temper dogs mixed together 2 personality's into 1 is a bad mix.not to mention i had one,i had Shorty (my pitt/rott mix) for 4 and a half years, greatly trained, sweet to people, and to me,and to my kids,But one night we were all watching TV and i had heard my husband SCREAM and i ran in the bed room Shorty had attacked him bit his leg ripped 2 main muscles in his leg,and now he cant walk.So unless you people are willing to take the chances of getting hurt,or being responsible for someone else getting hurt then go right ahead.but if you want to be on the safe side, leave the 2 highest rated tempermental dogs alone, and dont breed.2 bad cannot make a very good 1

I know this question was made hella long time ago but i just needed to say since being a pitt/rott mix owner myself. She has been the best dog not only in my life but also in my family as well. They have all owned dogs before i got Roxie and they said Roxie was by far the best dog, shes smart, attentive, gentle, protective and has the most goofy personality i have ever seen in a dog. They really are a great breed but since your inexperience i would recommend not breeding them since there are plenty of rott/pitt mixes already out there looking for a home.

I know for a fact that in the future ill be basically owning rott/pitt mixes

Sorry, but unless you are breeding show or true working dogs your animals should be spayed or neutered. Too many mixed breeds are killed each day becouse there arn't enough homes.

I have a Pit/German Shepherd and Rott mix.  She is 4 months, about 40 lbs and a big baby.  She is always at my heals following me everywhere in the house wagging her tail.  She is curious with my small cat and just wants to play all the time.  I have never seen her get aggressive with anything or anyone, even when other dogs provoke her.  She is going to be huge and I have to admit I was a little worried.  But now I know that I am blessed to have such a wonderful dog!  By 2 1/2 months I taught her to pee in a litter box, sit, shake, rollover, and lay down.  Very intelligent and gentle!!!

i would never do that becausee when you breed a pitbull with another breed you are taking all the bad trights of the other breed and putting them with the pitbull creating a unstable dog

But I can tell you this i have a rottie/pitt mix and it looks fantastic, let me just describe it to you. hes only 8 weeks old and it has a dark brownish/reddish coat that holds its own soft shine muscular body, with its wrinkly fore head covering the green eyes, yes you read it right green eyes, it is the greatest mutt created in the world.............

I am from Sydney Australia, I have just brough a Mastiff cross Rotty from the local shelter. It is only 12 weeks old, I have been told it is a great mix of a dog from people that know their stuff.. I am sure a pitty/rotty would also be awesome. Obvioulsy ensure you do everything properly and make sure their are buyers for your pups.

ok look cris, i agree with you up until you said where is the mastiff in a pit/rottie mix do you not know that the rottweiler is a mastiff ok its not a BULL mastiff but it is from the mastiff group of dogs, so in answer to your question the mastiff would come from the rottie. But the cross breed of APBT and Rottweilers is not a bandog it is known as a rock dog but is not recognised by the AKC or the UKC. In answer to the original question go for it if you know what you are doing and provided that you have homes for the pups and that you can give the mother all the medical attention she and the pups need please make sure that both dogs have sound temperaments before breeding them.

I have a beautiful 2 year old Rottweiler who is full of energy, always look likes he's smiling but can be aggressive towards strangers, or loud automobiles, but a good dog. Then i have a female red nose pitbull who is very calm and gentle, very ladylike, literally woulnt hurt a fly. So i bred both of them  together! Two weeks ago she gave birth to the most beautiful rotty/pitbull mixed litter i ever saw. Two of the puppies are black like the father, and the others are different shades, but all got rotty features. Really gorgeous. But the main thing is i knew both personalities and i believe they're gonna be3 great dogs. But if both parents were aggressive, i wouldnt of bred them. Wat im saying is, use your own judgement on both their personalities.

Hi!
I just received a pup from pit mom and rotty dad - both weigh OVER 100 lbs. Little Harley (dad is Big Harley) already has paws the size of an adult Aust. Shep. and he is only 7 wks old! He is very sweet and we want to be sure to train him right, especially since he will be so big. I have had a pitt(from a pup) and a rottie (abuse rescue)and loved both. I have a house full of young boys and Harley seems comfortable with them. He is starting to show dominant behaviour over other dogs - not mean, just not being submissive. I'm hoping he will have the personality for child/home gaurdian without being overly aggressive. Any ideas on training?

Luckily i will be moving out in a few months. I wish the media would stop playing up how bad these kinds of dogs are because in the hands of a responisble and loving owner..there would be no problem.

Well it comes to it we just fell in love with this lil male puppy, it's really hard to tell what mixed dogs REALLY have in them and Who wants to spend the money to find out ya know,i was wondering since i see a lot of people have comments about them if any of the owners have any pics, iv been searching the internet ever went to http://dogbreedinfo.com/americanmastiff.htm
as suggested above but still really no pics! As for my comment our lil guy is probably the best dog i have ever owned at least up until this point hes loving, playful and smart not to mention soooo cute! I think they make for great dogs it all depends on the owner unless there is something really not right with the dog,

i know this is an old post and im kinda late.  but, all dogs that are considered "purebred" are diffrent dogs bred to do a job.there is no such thing as pure bred.  all dogs are bred by man and come from wolves.  the only dog that i know of that dosent have a job is the dalmation.  it was a rich mans dog to look pretty.  i got a female pit.  tough as nails.  she bred to a rott.  all the pups where 100% killers.  but then again my pit is nothing but a killer.  remember this, character is developed by lifes experiences.  bloodline only determines if it will tuck tail or be aggressive.  but ask yourself this.  what will be the purpose of breeding these two bloods together?  you want a guard dog?  you wanna make some extra cash on pups?(no money in what folks call "muts")  let me tell you what i got in my yard.  rott/timberwolf mix.  old english mastiff/apbt(60/40 and i bred them)  pit/rott mix.  I ONLY HAVE DOGS TO BITE THE JOHN BROWN HIND PARTS OF INTRUDERS.  I ALSO HAVE 100 PLUS ACRES FOR THEM TO ROAM ON.

Alot of my friends and co-workers have dogs and they all say that there dogs and ALL dogs they have been around does not hold a candle to him, he is very smart, has a personality like no other, not to mention he looks like a stud!!! I had the mother which was a rednose pit, and the father was a german rot. Alot of my friends have the other puppies and they just as good!!! It all depends on the owner/trainer....and thats all I have to say about that.

Pitbulls and rots are born as killer dogs. They are not meant for playing with children people because of their instict to turn on their owners. The only thing these dogs are good at are fighting and protection. So why have a dog like this, wouldn't you rather have a dog like a jack russuel terrier, beagle, lab, golden ret., etc.. I for one would not like to have an obligation of worrying about what my pitbull or rot. can turn up to do. I would rather be care free!

I have a rottweiler/pitt bull mix.  He is just about five years old.  He is great with me, but often becomes extremely aggressive with my boyfriend.  We have a 9 year old boy, and he is semi-aggressive with him.. We have a 3 year old little girl, and when the dog is around her he will lie on his back, immediately become submissive...so no don't breed two dogs because of what you THINK they will become...it is too risky, and in the end the dog will suffer.

I would be aware of the problem of find puppies homes. With this said however, I would love to see this mix become a full breed as I love the mix. My brother-in-law has one and he is the sweetest good natured dog! Like one responder said, he is a big 75lb lapdog! If I knew of a breeder I would buy one.

I just cant understand why people have to mix dogs, just cause they are nice pups,if you have a pedigree dog then breed it back to a pedigree dog,why make mongrels,Pit x Rotts will just encourage stupid people who buy these dogs as fashion accessories,i live in england and at the moment there is a trend on youngsters owning types of dogs just for aggression,i own 2 rotties and 4 staffords,i only breed the staffords they are all kc reg and health tested, both rotties are neutered/spayed,a pit is just a crossbreed anyway, but keep the rottweiler pure, you cant be sure mixing these 2 types of dogs what the temperament the pups will be,i say Don't breed unless you breed true to its bloodline

EVERYONE LIKE'S TO SAY THE PUP'S WILL BE MUTT'S. BUT THINK ABOUT IT HOW DID ALL THE DOG BREED'S GET STARTED! I HAVE A GRERMAN ROTTWEILER AND I HAVE BIN THINKING ABOUT THE SAME THANG. THAY ARE NO MUTT'S ONLY DOG'S. THE TERM MUTT IS FOR THOSE WHO DON'T RELLY KNOW HOW TO LOVE A DOG!!

a pit bull isn't a mutt, its a breed(American Pit Bull Terrier, registered with UKC) and also a term for a dog that looks like pits like Amstaff, Staffies, American Bulldogs, Presa Canario, etc pretty much all molossers are in the "pit bull type" classification which is stupid....(Look for Spot The Pit, http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html) anyways I love the mix between Rott and Pit they are so gorgeous but sorry they will not make a profit they're still mutts or maybe eventually they'll become a special "designer dogs" like the labradoodles, bullboxers, etc... I think a Rottoodle would look so cute, rottweiler color with poodle coat.... by the way I own a Rott/Pit, a Bullmastiff/Amstaff, and a Purebred Scott Type American Bulldog.

I have a rottweiler pit mix and she is so smart! I got her at 8 weeks old and it took me four days to potty train her! Now she crys at the door everytime! She's so pretty and I saved her from the pound! She took to me right away! She has to be the best dog I've ever had and I've had lots! So I think there great dogs! But no it doesn't make a new breed, just a mixed one! Totally worth it and I'm sure you could sell them right away, but you have to make sure they don't go to homes where people will miss treat them or they can be very mean!

I plan to breed my German Rotti with my Brindle!  All of my dogs have good tempers and I believe the puppies won't be far from the parents."HUMAN KILLERS AND DOG EATERS", if that's the case people shouldn't breed. I think you should do it. I Am!

I just got a pit/rottie mix puppy.  He has been very easy to housebreak and very loveable. He is full of energy and beautiful.  Bottom line, he is not a mutt! Where I come from it takes a mutt to know a mutt!

it is never a good idea to cross bread dogs. first of all they are harder to get rid of plus rots have bean bread to attack
and pits are fighting dogs which = a very dangerous animal in some cases not all are but all it takes is one bad one and buy buy grandma or someones child! also pits were bread not to bite people cause you have to handle them when they are being fought so most likely the dogs weal be confused cause of there conflicting genes

I HAVE A ROTTWEILER PITBULL.  HE IS 4 YEARS OLD AND HE WEIGHS 108LBS.  HE IS A MAIL.  I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A NEW BREED AND IT IS ONE OF THE MOST GENTLE OF BREEDS.  THE FATHER WAS A ROTTWEILER AND THE MOTHER WAS PIT.  MOM HAD 11 PUPS.  I KEPT TWO.  A MALE AND A FEMALE.  AS YOU KNOW ROTT'SARE PRONE TO HIP DISPLACIA AND THE FEMALE SEEMED TO HAVE A MILD CASE OF THIS.  THE MALE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  HE IS THE MOST GENTLEIST DOG THAT I HAVE EVER CAME IN CONTACT WITH.  IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HIM, HE THINKS THAT HE IS A MEAN DOG.  BUT HE IS AFRAID OF HIS OWN SHADOW.  I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS FROM RAISING HIM TO BE DOCILE OR NOT.  I DID NOT CUT THE EARS OR TAIL.  HE IS NOT NEUTERED. NO MATTER WHERE I GO OR WHAT I DO EVERYONE ALWAYS COMPLIMENTS ON THIS BREED.  THEY ARE VERY INTELLIGENT.  HE WATCHES TV ALL THE TIME.  HE CAN RECOGNIZE ANIMALS WHEN THEY ARE ON THE TV.  HE CONSTANTLY CRAVES AFFECTION.  HE NEEDS TO BE PETTED 24/7.  HE ALSO IS A WATER DOG.  WHERE EVER THERE IS WATER, HE HAS TO GET IN IT SOMEHOW.  IF IT IS THE HOSE, A PUDDLE, POOL, LAKE, ETC.  I HAVE OWNED ROTTS, PITS, SAMOYEDS, DACHSUNDS, DOBERMANS, POODLES. HE IS THE BEST BREED THAT ANYONE COULD WANT.  THE ONLY PROBLEM THAT HE SEEMS TO ENCOUNTER, IS THAT HE IS ALWAYS EXTREMELY HOT. HAS TO LAY ON THE TILE, SIT IN FRONT OF THE AC WHEN I DRIVE.  HE SITS RIGHT NEXT TO ME IN THE FRONT SEAT WHEN DRIVING. HE SLEEPS NEXT TO ME IN BED OR WHEREVER I LAY.  HE JUST CONSTANTLY DEMANDS ATTENTION.  IT DON'T MATTER WHO IT IS HE HAS TO BE PETTED. IF THERE IS ANYWHERE THAT I CAN POST A PICTURE I WOULD LOVE TO.  HE HAS NOT HAD ANY HEALTH PROBLEMS AT ALL.  HE IS HUGE AND EVERYONE IS SO AFRAID OF HIM AND HE IS AFRAID OF HIS OWN SHADOW.  I WISH THAT I COULD CORRECT THAT.  I THINK THAT THERE IS NOT A BETTER BREED IN THE WHOLE WORLD.  ALL HE WANTS TO DO IS PLAY.
