I got a tattoo around my ankle just before thanksgiving 2003.  It is now Feb 2004 and the tattoo still itches like crazy and it feels bumpy in places where there was a lot of color.  I was told by the guy that did it that I am allergic to the reds but another artist told me that the person that did it went to deep and I am scarring.  It was recommended that I put vitamin e oil on it and wait it out.  It is not my only tattoo, I have had no other problems although I do not have red in my other tattoo - just black and white.  Which opinion sounds more likely? Why is it still itching???????  What should I do?

It's very probable that the artist of the problematic tattoo was "heavy handed". It is common for deeper tattoos to take longer to heal and to be bothersome (in the same way that scabs can itch when they heal). If you get another tattoo, I would talk to some of the artist's clients to see if they considered him/her to be too powerful.
