My 11 year old irish setter has developed spots on his lower back.  Are they age spots or do you recommend that I have them examined by his vet?

Are these spots raised or just flat, like big freckles? If they are the latter, I'd call them age spots. As Setters age, their fur tends to thin and therefore the skin may be exposed to the sun more, which could contribute to the spots.

I'm not a vet but have owned Irish Setters for over 20 years.
